The field of neuromodulation has experienced significant advancements in the past decade,owing to breakthroughs in disciplines such as materials science,genetics,bioengineering,photonics,and beyond.The convergence of these fields has resulted in the development of nanotransducers,devices that harness the synergies of these diverse disciplines.These nanotransducers,essential for neuromodulation,often draw inspiration from energy conversion processes found in nature for their unique modalities.In this review,we will delve into the latest advancements in wireless neuromodulation facilitated by optical,magnetic,and mechanical nanotransducers.We will examine their working principles,properties,advantages,and limitations in comparison to current methods for deep brain neuromodulation,highlighting the impact of natural systems on their design and functionality.Additionally,we will underscore potential future directions,emphasizing how continued progress in materials science,neuroscience,and bioengineering might expand the horizons of what is achievable with nanotransducer-enabled neuromodulation.

Studies towards bioinspired synthesis of Hetidine-Type C20-Diterpenoid Alkaloids

Details of a biogenetically inspired strategy that led to the synthesis of the hetidine-type C20-diterpenoid alka- loid skeleton are reported in this paper. Key steps of our synthesis include a C-H oxidation to convert the atis- ine-type core to the ajaconine skeleton, as well as an aza-Prins cyclization that establishes the hetidine alkaloid skeleton. An unexpected heptacyclic framework bearing a unique tricyclo[3.***.1.02.7]nonane moiety has been ob- tained during our studies, which may represent a new type of C20-diterpenoid alkaloids yet to be discovered.

Antibiotic resistance has been emerged as a global threaten for public health.Lankacidin A(Sedecamycin) was developed as an effective antibiotics for treating swine dysentery in the past decades. The fragile and densely functionalized polyene macrocyclane structure has been an formidable challenge for total synthesis as well as further derivatizatuin for clinical use.Lankacyclinol,a decarboxylated antitumor congener of the lankacidin family,was chemically synthesized only by the Williams’ s group in 2000. We have developed a biomimetic synthesis of lankacycllnol featuring a Mannich macrocyclization. The highly stereoselective decarboxylation/protonation(dr 12/1) to establish the syn-relative configuration of C2 and C18 was undoubtfully refined by the rigid conformation of polylene macrocyclane.However,the inherent conformational control retards us to access different diastereoisomers for the study of structure-activity relationship.With this notice in mind,an alternative approach reconfigured the Stille coupling as a key macrocyclization while bioinspired Mannich reaction and subsequent decarboxylation/protonation were devised to achieve the four stereoisomers at C2 and C18. The successful strategy paves the way for different stereoisomers and possible derivatives for future biological evaluation.
