An experimental investigation was carried out in order to prepare ceramic composite pipes used for tubular solid oxide fuel cells by using a multi-billet extrusion technique. Particular emphasis was given to the forming possibility and extrusion behavior of a two-layer pipe consisting of NiO-YSZ(PSZ) (anode) and YSZ (electrolyte). It is shown that the extrusion pressure and binder content required decrease with increasing the fraction of nickel oxide in the anode layers. The porosity in the anode layers depends on the binder content in pastes. It is feasible to prepare anode/electrolyte composite pipes by means of co-extrusion of different ***, it is possible to obtain sound sintered pipes even under pressureless sintering conditions.

The protein based binding material is from natural products, which is nontoxic and recyclable. This kind of green binder is earnestly needed by aluminum casting products. The new protein based core possesses higher strength and easier shakeout. Its tensile strength is close to that of common resin sands. The micro mechanism of protein binder was investigated by using infrared spectrum, chemical element analysis, SEM and thermal lost mass analysis.

Using synthesized carboxy methyl amylopectin as organic binders for pelletizing, the dry pellet compressive strength goes up to 322.8 N per ball, dropping strength is 6.67 times per 0.5 m, and the green pellet shock temperature reaches up to 820 ℃. The influence of the carboxy methyl amylopectin on the contact angle of iron ore surface was investigated. Compared with that having no organic binder, the surface tension increases 48 times and the capillary attraction increases 43 times. These results were obtained by using the quasi particulate model calculation. The analysis demonstrated that the behavior of polar group and organic chain structure are the reasons of improving the strength of pellet. XPS analysis indicated that polar group bonded on iron ore surface make the electron energy of 2p orbit of Fe decreases from 711 eV to 710.2 eV. The results showed that the special spatial reticular structure of organic chain can improve pellet strength and green ball shock temperature.[

The application of biostimulants in agriculture represents an environmentally friendly alternative while increasing agricultural production. The aims of the study were to develop solid biostimulants based on five rhizobacteria native to Benin’s soils and to evaluate their efficacy on the growth and biomass yield of maize under greenhouse conditions on ferrallitic and ferruginous soils. Clay and peat were used as a conservation binder for the preparation of the biostimulants. These binders were used alone or combined in the different formulations with maize flour and sucrose. 10 g of biostimulants were applied at sowing in pots containing five kilograms of sterilised soil. The experimental design was a completely randomised block of 24 treatments with three replicates. The results obtained showed significant improvements (P Pseudomonas putida biostimulant compared to the control. On the other hand, the use of the peat biostimulant + Pseudomonas syringae was more beneficial for plant growth on ferruginous soil. The height, stem diameter, leaf area, above-ground biomass and below-ground biomass of the plants under the influence of this biostimulant were improved by 83.06%, 44.57%, 102.94%, 86.84% and 42.68%, respectively, compared to the control. Therefore, these results confirm that Rhizobacteria express their potential through biostimulants formulated on maize. The formulated biostimulants can later be used by producers to improve crop productivity for sustainable agriculture.

The present work describes the viability of a mortar binder based on two industrial by-products: poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) particles from scrap and anhydrite (CaSO4) from fluorgypsum. Mortar composites were made incorporating different amounts of PVC particles and cured at constant room temperature during various periods of time. From X-ray diffraction, it was possible to follow the hydration process and to estimate the effect of the PVC particles on anhydrite transformation to gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). Compressive strength from uniaxial testing was measured from stress-strain curves carried out at room temperature. According to these results, the hydration rates of the composites depend on the concentration of PVC particles and there is an enhancement in their compressive strength as particle content increases, reaching values of 36 MPa after 28 days.

In this paper, two types of high loft nonwoven fabrics have been constructed in the laboratory apparatus made by ourselves with different binders (polyamide and polyethylene powder) and varying binder contents (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%). The tensile and compression properties of these nonwoven fabrics were tested. It was found that one can reduce powder binder content to increase loft and softness of nonwoven fabrics, but it has to sacrifice its tensile strength. Adhesion force between binder and single fibre was also explored. The experiments showed that the adhesion force at the interface between binder and fibre depends on the fibre variety, the fibre surface morphology, heating temperature and heating time etc..

Improvement of Asphalt Properties Using Polymethyl Methacrylate

Increasing traffic loading and volumes on roads have led to the use of polymer modified binders to improve the performance of bitumen in terms of strength, durability, and resistance to rutting. This research studies the effect of adding poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) with different molecular weights on asphalt properties. PMMA polymer was prepared via solution polymerization of MMA using dibenzoyl peroxide (DBPO) as initiator. By controlling the time of reaction, two different molecular weights were obtained: PMMA1 and PMMA2 with Mw 21.000 and 30.000, respectively. The morphological studies of polymer modified binder were discussed. Physical properties of PMMA modified asphalt including penetration value, softening point, and kinematic viscosity at 135°C and 150°C were examined. The aging properties of polymer modified asphalts were examined using thin film oven test (TFOT). A hot storage stability test was carried out for polymer modified binder. Indirect tensile strength (ITS) test and durability performance of modified asphalts were evaluated using Marshall Test. Resilient modulus (RM) test was evaluated using Universal Testing Machine. Results showed that the inclusion of PMMA polymer in asphalt binder has significantly improved its properties. The achieved improvement was found to be dependent on polymer molecular weight. Moreover, the results explained that the compatibility between PMMA and asphalt binder is improved upon further aging especially with low molecular weight polymer (PMMA).
