Comparative Characteristics of Hydrated Lime with Fine Sewage Sludge Ash (FSSA) and Coal Fly Ash (CFA)

The disposal of waste has become an environmental issue due to the limited available landfilling space. This paper aims to compare the characteristics of hydrated lime with fine sewage sludge ash (FSSA) and coal fly ash (CFA). Multiple techniques, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), compressive strengths, thermophysical properties, and setting time were used to assess the physicochemical characteristics of the lime-based materials. X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction were used to determine the chemical composition and phases of ashes, lime and binders. The results showed that the chemical composition of ashes is similar to that of cement. Besides glass, the main minerals identified in CFA and FSSA are quartz (SiO2) and anhydrite (CaSO4). Moreover, calcium aluminium oxide (Ca3Al2O6) was detected for CFA and phosphorus calcium silicate (Ca2SiO4-Ca3(PO4)2) for FSSA and minor phases were detected for both. FTIR measurements were carried out to characterize the inorganics components of different samples. Compressive strengths of mortars with different formulations have shown that both have a long-term positive effect which might be related to a pozzolanic activity. For the CFA the L3 binder consisting of 60% of coal fly ash and 40% lime has a higher compressive strength than the others while for the FSSA the L4 binder consisting of 80% fine ash and 20% lime has a higher compressive strength than the others. Both binders setting start times are greater than that of cement but shorter than that of lime. The study of the thermophysical properties of binders shows that they have a higher thermal resistance than cement mortar. Coal fly ash is considered an industrial by-product derived from coal combustion in thermal power plant. It is one of the most complex anthropogenic materials. Its improper disposal has become an environmental concern and resulted in a waste of recoverable resources. The aim of this paper is to study the physico-chemical characteristics of binders based on coal fly ash and lime in order to develop an eco-cement. The various characterization tests carried out are X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, compressive strengths, thermophysical properties and setting time. X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction were used to determine the chemical composition and phases of fly ash, lime and binders. This allowed us to see that the chemical composition of fly ash is similar to that of cement. Compressive strengths of mortars containing 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% of fly ash have shown that fly ash has a long-term positive effect which might be related to a pozzolanic activity. The L3 binder consisting of 60% of coal fly ash and 40% lime has a higher compressive strength than the others. The binder setting start time is greater than that of cement but shorter than that of lime. The study of the thermophysical properties of the L3 binder shows that it has a higher thermal resistance than cement mortar. Moreover, it heats up less quickly because of its low effusivity compared to that of the latter. This analysis highlighted the principal characteristics that must be taken into account to use coal fly correctly in lime-based materials.

Properties of Polyacrylate Latex Prepared Under Different Emulsified Systems

The polyacrylate latexes were synthesized via pre-emulsified and semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization technology when conventional surfactant or polymerizable surfactant was used as emulsifiers. The resultant latexes and their films were characterized with the contact angle determinator and rheometer. Effect of the polymerizable surfactant on water resistance, stability and rheology of the latex was studied. Results show that the water resistance of film is increased first then decreased with the increase of the amount of the polymerizable surfactant. There exists the optimum value of the amount of the polymerizable surfactant for the water resistance of the film. In comparison with the latex prepared with the conventional surfactant, both the mechanical stability and the freezing-thaw stability of the latex are improved when the polymerizable surfactant is used during the course of the emulsion polymerization. The resultant latex has rheological properties of pseudo-plastic fluid and belongs to non-Newtonian fluid.

Bentonite is one of the most widespread used clays connected with various applications. In the case of foundry technology, bentonite is primarily used as a binder for mold manufacture. Thermal stability of bentonites is a natural property of clay minerals and it depends on the genesis, source and chemical composition of the clay. This property is also closely connected to bentonite structure. According to DTA analysis if only one peak of dehydroxylation is observed(about 600 oC), the cis- isomerism of bentonite is expected, while two peaks of de-hydroxylation(about 550 and 850 oC) are expected in the trans- one. In this overview, the bentonite structure, the water – bentonite interaction and the swelling behavior of bentonite in connection with the general technological properties of bentonite molding mixture are summarized. Further, various types of methods for determination of bentonite thermostability are discussed, including instrumental analytical methods as well as methods that employ evaluation of various technological properties of bentonite binders and/or bentonite molding mixtures.

The investigation aims at the expansion of the basis of formulations of solid composite propellants by introducing new compositions with lower sensitivity to mechanic impact and improved thermal *** formulations based on trinitropyrazole(TNP)contains a binder(a hydrocarbon or active one),aluminum and inorganic oxidizer *** results show that a binary formulation TNP+active binder(18%-19%)(volume fraction)with no metal is well designed which would achieve high specific impulse(at Pc∶Pa=40∶1)of 248s,high density of 1.80g/cm3 and combustion temperature Tcabout 3 *** terms of energy,metal-free compositions with TNP lose a bit to those with HMX,only if HMX fraction in formulation is higher than 45%-50%.

Objective:The quantitative effects of formulation and processing variables affecting the binding properties of Chinese yam starch（Dioscorea oppositifolia） in chloroquine phosphate tablet formulations have been investigated in comparison with corn starch using a 23 factorial experimental ***:Chinese yam starch,representing the "low" level,and corn starch,representing the "high" level were used as binders at concentrations of 2.5%w/w and 10%w/w in chloroquine phosphate tablet *** mechanical properties of the tablets,measured by the tensile strength（T） and brittle fracture index（BFI） as well as the release properties measured by the disintegration time（DT） and dissolution time(t80- time for 80%drug release),were used as assessment ***:The ranking of the individual coefficient values for the formulations on T was D > N >>C,on BFI was N > D >>C,on DT was D > N > C and on t80 was C > N > D while the ranking of the interaction coefficient on T was N-D > C-D >> N-C,on BFI was N-D > N-C = C-D,on DT and t80 was N-C > N-D > *** the binding agent from Chinese to corn starch,led to a decrease in T,DT and t80 but increase in BFI of the *** were significant（P binder,N and the other two variables,C and ***:The result showed that Chinese yam possessed stronger binding capacity than corn starch and could be useful as an alternative binder when tablets with high mechanical strength with minimal problems of lamination,and slow release are required.

Effect of Heat Treatment on Structure and Properties of WC-Co Hardmetals

Heat treatment changes the structure of the cobalt binder phase and the properties of the WC-Co hardmetals. The higher the cobalt content in the alloy is, the more effective the heat treatment is. The present work has found that the transformation of α-Co to ε-Co can be depressed by quenching the specimens in oil from 1000℃ and hence the transverse rupture strength of these specimens can be increased. During tempering the quenched specimens, new precipitated phases which have dispersion hardening effect on the cobalt binder phase have been observed.

Aging Behavior and Creep Characteristics of CACB

Cement asphalt composite binder(CACB)is a type of composite binder composed of cement,asphalt,water,and various additives through curing,whose creep properties are influenced by asphalt *** CACB creep tests at various aging times,the creep compliance curves of the material were *** of the test results were fitted by the creep compliance of Burgers model revised by fractional derivative,and the effects of asphalt aging and mix proportions on the CACB creep properties were *** study demonstrates that as aging time increased,the ability of the CACB to resist instant elastic deformation and viscous flow deformation was enhanced,the amount of its elastic components increased but the viscous components were reduced,and the material deformability decreased,exhibiting deforming properties similar to elastic *** effects of asphalt aging on the CACB viscoelastic mechanical properties were great during the initial aging stage(within 12 h)and became weaker during the later aging stage(over 12 h).During the initial aging stage,the CACB creep deformability could be enhanced by increasing asphalt ***,during the later aging stage,asphalt application had little effect on creep deformability.

Research on mechanical alloying and sintering of TiC/Ti powders

In order to improve the sintering activity of TiC which was usually added into the binder of polycrystalline diamond(PCD) and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride(PCBN),the powders of TiC and Ti mixed as molar ratio of TiC:Ti = 1:0.3 were treated by mechanical *** structure and the morphology of the milled powders were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scan electron microscope(SEM), *** milled powders were sintered by cubic hinge *** structure of the sintered sample was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and the hardness was *** results showed that the grain size of the TiC and the Ti powders were decreased,as the milling time increased,and the nonstoichiometric compound of TiC_x was *** sintering activity of the TiC/Ti powders treated by mechanical alloying increased *** hardness of the sintered sample improved from 829.2 HV for the raw powders to 2587.37 HV for the powders mechanical alloyed 20 hours.
