Bubble-enhanced quadrilateral finite element formulation for nonlinear analysis of geotechnical problems

We investigate a new numerical procedure based on a bubble-enriched finite element formulation in combination with the implicit backward euler scheme for nonlinear analysis of strip footings and stability of *** soil body is modeled as a perfect plastic Mohr-Coulomb *** displacement field is approximated by a 4-node quadrilateral element discretization enhanced with bubble *** loads and failure mechanisms in cohesive frictional soil are determined by solving a few Newton-Raphson *** results of the present approach are verified by both analytical solutions and other numerical solutions available in the literature.

DISSIPATION-BASED CONSISTENT RATE-DEPENDENT MODEL FOR CONCRETE

An energy-dissipation based viscoplastic consistency model is presented to describe the performance of concrete under dynamic loading. The development of plasticity is started with the thermodynamic hypotheses in order that the model may have a sound theoretical background. Independent hardening and softening and the rate dependence of concrete are described separately for tension and compression. A modified implicit backward euler integration scheme is adopted for the numerical computation. Static and dynamic behavior of the material is illustrated with certain numerical examples at material point level and structural level, and compared with existing experimental data. Results validate the effectiveness of the model.

A Parallel Finite Element Algorithm for the Unsteady Oseen Equations

Based on fully overlapping domain decomposition,a parallel finite element algorithm for the unsteady Oseen equations is proposed and *** this algorithm,each processor independently computes a finite element approximate solution in its own subdomain by using a locally refined multiscale mesh at each time step,where conforming finite element pairs are used for the spatial discretizations and backward euler scheme is used for the temporal discretizations,*** subproblem is defined in the entire domain with vast majority of the degrees of freedom associated with the particular subdomain that it is responsible for and hence can be solved in parallel with other subproblems using an existing sequential solver without extensive *** algorithm is easy to implement and has low communication *** bounds of the parallel finite element approximate solutions are *** experiments are also given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Exact Artificial Boundary Condition for the Poisson Equation in the Simulation of the 2D Schrodinger-Poisson System

We study the computation of ground states and time dependent solutions of the Schr¨odinger-Poisson system(SPS)on a bounded domain in 2D(*** two space dimensions).On a disc-shaped domain,we derive exact artificial boundary conditions for the Poisson potential based on truncated Fourier series expansion inθ,and propose a second order finite difference scheme to solve the r-variable ODEs of the Fourier *** Poisson potential can be solved within O(M NlogN)arithmetic operations where M,N are the number of grid points in r-direction and the Fourier *** with the Poisson solver,a backward euler and a semi-implicit/leap-frog method are proposed to compute the ground state and dynamics *** results are shown to confirm the accuracy and *** we make it clear that backward euler sine pseudospectral(BESP)method in[33]can not be applied to 2D SPS simulation.
