The phenomenon of electrical attraction and repulsion between charged particles is well known, and described mathematically by Coulomb’s Law, yet until now there has been no explanation for why this occurs. There has been no mechanistic explanation that reveals what causes the charged particles to accelerate, either towards or away from each other. This paper gives a detailed explanation of the phenomena of electrical attraction and repulsion based on my previous work that determined the exact wave-function solutions for both the Electron and the Positron. It is revealed that the effects are caused by wave interactions between the wave functions that result in Electromagnetic reflections of parts of the particle’s wave functions, causing a change in their momenta.

The wave/particle duality of particles in Physics is well known. Particles have properties that uniquely characterize them from one another, such as mass, charge and spin. Charged particles have associated Electric and Magnetic fields. Also, every moving particle has a De Broglie wavelength determined by its mass and velocity. This paper shows that all of these properties of a particle can be derived from a single wave function equation for that particle. Wave functions for the Electron and the Positron are presented and principles are provided that can be used to calculate the wave functions of all the fundamental particles in Physics. Fundamental particles such as electrons and positrons are considered to be point particles in the Standard Model of Physics and are not considered to have a structure. This paper demonstrates that they do indeed have structure and that this structure extends into the space around the particle’s center (in fact, they have infinite extent), but with rapidly diminishing energy density with the distance from that center. The particles are formed from Electromagnetic standing waves, which are stable solutions to the Schrödinger and Classical wave equations. This stable structure therefore accounts for both the wave and particle nature of these particles. In fact, all of their properties such as mass, spin and electric charge, can be accounted for from this structure. These particle properties appear to originate from a single point at the center of the wave function structure, in the same sort of way that the Shell theorem of gravity causes the gravity of a body to appear to all originate from a central point. This paper represents the first two fully characterized fundamental particles, with a complete description of their structure and properties, built up from the underlying Electromagnetic waves that comprise these and all fundamental particles.

Adhesion achieved through feet setae is fundamental for gecko agilely maneuvering.Although diverse hypotheses have been proposed,none of them thoroughly explains the setae function,implying a kind of hybrid-mechanism-based adhesion in geckos.In addition to van der Waals interactions and capillary force,the electrostatic attraction that emerges from triboelectrification was suggested as a component of setae adhesion.Nevertheless,the contribution by electrostatic attraction to the total setae attachment is still controversial.In this study,we analyzed the occurrence of electrostatic attraction at gecko setae through experiments and model analyses.By touching the substrates with only~1/70th of the foot area,freely wall-climbing geckos developed tribocharge at their feet setae with a density of~277 pC/mm^(2),generating electrostatic attractions with a strength of~4.4 mN/mm^(2).From this perspective,the adhesion driven by triboelectrification could account for about 1%of total adhesion.Model analyses at spatula level indicated a similar result showing that the electrostatic force might account for~3%of the adhesion that facilitates wall-climbing in geckos.The low contribution of the electrostatic force partly explains why geckos always face difficulty in maneuvering onto those substrates(e.g.,teflon)where they could easily develop tribocharge but difficultly generate van der Waals force.However,long-range electrostatic forces may play other roles in a distance range where the van der Waals interaction cannot function.These findings not only add to our understanding of the mechanism of gecko adhesion,but also will help us advance gecko-inspired fibular adhesives.

The optimized structure of the tetrathiafulvalence radical-cation dimer(TTF·+-TTF·+) with all-real frequencies is obtained at MP2/6-311G level,which exhibits the attraction between two molecular cation TTF·+.The new attraction interaction is a 20-center-2-electron intermolecular covalent π /π bonding with a telescope shape.The covalent π /π bonding has the bonding energy of about -21 kcal·mol-1 and is concealed by the Coulombic repulsion between two TTF·+ cations.This intermolecular covalent attraction also influences the structure of the TTF·+ subunit,i.e.,its molecular plane is bent by an angle θ=5.6°.This work provides new knowledge on intermolecular interaction.

Differential attraction of parasitoids in relation to specificity of kairomones from herbivores and their by-products

Infochemicals are used by foraging parasitoids in the host selection process from habitat preference until host recognition. Kairomones from the herbivore host plays a vital role in the attraction of parasitoids, particularly in the micro-habitat. Parasitoids are specifically attracted to their respective herbivore species even when different herbivores are present on the same plant. Chemicals emitted from different stages of host （eggs, larvae, pupae, adult）, host by-products （e.g., frass, exuviae, mandibular gland secretions, defense secretions etc.）, or intra-specific infochemicals （pheromones） can be main signals for the parasitoids. Parasitoids can differentiate between host and non-host, between different hosts and host stages by perceiving specific volatile and contact kairomones from the host itself, host along with its by-product, by-products alone or intra-specific infochemicals; of which frass （by-product） and intra-specific infochemicals are the most reported ones. Adult and larval parasitoids have been reported to be attracted to kairomones of their target stage or byproduct of their host. Pupal parasitoids have been found to utilize kairomones from the preceding host stage while egg parasitoids are known to exploit a variety of host infochemicals, for example, either from eggs themselves or other non-target host stages, especially adults and adult-related by-products. The kairomonal chemicals identified so far include various groups, but mainly hydrocarbons. A high degree of host specificity and host acceptance is important for the parasitoids as any mistake may result in the loss of fitness.
