Direct expansion solar assisted heat pump (DX-SAHP) technology is developed by combining solar energy heat utilization with heat pump energy saving technology. The experimental researches of the DX-SAHP hot water system are conducted in this paper, and overall performance of DX-SAHP is analyzed with three different structures of collectors/evaporators, namely a bare-plate collector, a glass-plate collector and double collectors/evaporators (a bare-plate collector and a glass-plate collector). The influence factors and overall performance are studied, which show that the overall performance of the system is mainly influenced by solar irradiation intensity and the collector area. Comparing with glass-plate collector in similar conditions, bare-plate collector system COP is higher. While increasing collector area is conducive to improve the system COP, but will reduce the collector efficiency and increase the workload of the compressor by comparing the bare-plate collector with double-plate collectors.

Awareness and perception of assisted reproductive technology practice amongst women with infertility in Northern Nigeria

Background: Involuntary infertility is a tragedy in most African setting. This is due to premium placed on fertility as a result of roles children fulfill in the family and the society. Aetiologic factors of infertility in sub-Saharan Africa are mostly infection related and they are mainly associated with poor treatment outcome to conventional non assisted conception technique. Objective: To evaluate the level of awareness and perception of assisted conception treatment among women attending fertility clinic. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study. Results: One hundred and ninety six women attending fertility clinic were interviewed. Mean age was 34.8year and mean duration of infertility of 4.1 years. Of the 196 infertile women interviewed, 150 (76.5%) have heard of assisted Reproductive Technology treatment. Sources of information were mainly family relation (46%) and friends (28.7%). Knowledge on some of assisted Reproductive Technology practices showed that 50.7% were aware that the treatment could fail, 36.8% knew it could be applied for male infertility treatment, 9.3% and 18.7% respectively are aware that donor oocyte and sperm could be used for treatment. Perception on babies conceived from assisted conception treatment revealed that 52% of patients interviewed could not comment if they are normal and natural babies. Majority of patients could not affirm if they will agree to the use of donor gamete or zygote for their treatment. Conclusion: Awareness of assisted conception treatment was high, however knowledge on specifics of treatment was low and perception on some of the practices was unfavorable. Sensitization of the public will help overcome some beliefs that may be at tangent to some practices of assisted conception.

In this study, we report the microwave assisted synthesis of Phospholamban protein (WT-PLB) as a new gold standard in solid phase peptide synthesis. Microwave energy offers benefits for both the coupling and deprotection reactions during peptide synthesis. The use of microwave energy for both the coupling and deprotection steps makes the microwave peptide synthesizers the most versatile and powerful systems available. It produces high yield and fast synthesis when compared to conventional peptide synthesizers.

Introduction: Laparoscopic assisted colonoscopic polypectomies have been well described in the literature and are well established in surgical practice, for removal of large, inaccessible, or flat based polyps. Laparoscope allows the endoscopist a serosal viewpoint and thus clear indication of perforation, in addition to enhancing endoscopic positioning through colonic mobilisation, facilitating polypectomy. We describe a previously rarely published technique, in which the colonoscope directs the surgeon to polyps and laparoscopy enables wedge resection of benign polyps using Endo GIA staplers. Using this method, the colonoscope provides an intra-luminal view ensuring adequate excision with margins whilst the laparoscope provides intra-peritoneal access for the wedge resection. Methods: This is a case series of 12 patients with large tubulovillous adenomas, found and biopsied at colonoscopy. Under a general anaesthetic, an on table colonoscopy was performed to identify and reassess the polyp, whilst a laparoscopy was performed to excise the polyp via wedge resection, using the endoscopic view as guidance. Results: The polyp was identified and completely resected in our 12 patients. All patients were discharged on the first post-operative day. Of the polyps excised, a focus of adenocarcinoma was detected in one and an adjacent endocrine tumour was found in another patient in histology along with tubulovillous adenoma. Rest were all tubulovillous adenomas only. Conclusion: We propose that this technique should be regarded as an alternative to Right hemicolectomies and difficult endoscopic mucosal resections for large adenomas, and be regarded as a definitive and safe procedure in its own right.

Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) is an established procedure for the treatment of unicompartmental arthritis. Success depends on a clear understanding of the principles and kinematics of the knee. Restoration of the physiological axis and soft tissue balancing is the key to a successful outcome. We outline the basic principles of UKA and the role of computer assisted surgery in achieving these goals.

Introduction: Laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) for early gastric cancer (EGC) was considered as a treatment with many advantages due to the application of laparoscopic equipment. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of use of laparoscopic equipment in blood loss, the number of harvested lymph nodes (HLNs), and complications between LAG and open gastrectomy (OG) for EGC. Methods: Patients received surgical treatment for early distal gastric cancer (EDGC) were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into three groups by different operation methods: traditional open distal gastrectomy (ODG) group, laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) group, and open distal gastrectomy with assistance of laparoscopic equipment (ODGA) group. Results: Altogether 65 patients with EDGC received surgical treatment, including 20 cases of ODG, 22 of LADG, and 23 of ODGA. No lymph node metastasis was found in all patients. 25 (38.5%) postoperative confirmed T2 were misdiagnosed as T1 preoperatively. Compared with ODG group, the blood loss was significantly reduced in LADG and ODGA groups (106.4 ± 46.0;and 73.3 ± 35.7 ml vs. 250.5 ± 65.1 ml respectively;P 0.01), but the operation time was significantly longer in these groups (231.0 ± 34.5, and 222.5 ± 42.6 min vs. 128.5 ± 22.3 min respectively;P 0.01). No difference was found in the blood loss, operation time, the number of harvested lymph nodes and the types of gastrointestinal continuity reconstruction between LADG and ODGA groups. No difference was found in the postoperative complications among the three groups. Conclusions: Laparoscopic equipment might be the key factor in the reduction of blood loss and the delay of operation time for LADG. Application of laparoscopic equipment in open gastrectomy can be used as a training method to shorten learning curve for LAG beginners.

Objective: discuss and analyze the application effects of nursing risk management in assisted reproductive nursing. Methodology: this research was carried out by selecting 384 IVF-ET (In-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer) patients admitted by certain hospital during February 2016 to February 2018 as research objects, who are classified into general group and research group at random by numbering all randomly, with 192 objects per group for comparing adverse event rate and nursing quality of patients in these two groups. Result: the adverse event rate of patients in research group is 4.17%, while that in general group is 10.94%, with the adverse event rate in research group lower than that in general group (P assisted reproductive nursing, the application of nursing risk management plays a critical role, which can not only reduce the adverse event rate, but also effectively improve the nursing quality of patients, as well as improve the nursing satisfaction of patients, thus being proven that nursing risk management shall be widely applied in clinical nursing.

Acupuncture Enhances Chances of Pregnancy in Unexplained Infertile Patients Who Undergo A Blastocyst Transfer in A Fresh-Cycle

Objective: To analyze the effects of acupuncture on in vitro fertilization patients with unexplained infertility.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the charts of a total of 302 cycles performed in 273 patients attending assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) Centre from August 2013 to August 2016.During the study period,embryo transfer with acupuncture(Acupuncture group,46 cases) and without acupuncture(Control group,42 cases) were applied.Prior to embryo transfer,the following points were used in the acupuncture group: Neiguan(CX 6),Diji(SP 8),Taichong(Liv 3),Baihui(Gv 20),and Guilai(S 29).These sessions were carried out two times before and after embryo transfer in a single day.In addition,auricular acupuncture was also performed at ear points,including ear point 55(Shenmen),ear point 58(Zhigong),ear point 22(Neifenmi)and ear point 34(Naodian).The biochemical pregnancy rate and clinical pregnancy rate after transplantation were compared between two groups.Results: The clinical pregnancy rate in the acupuncture group was higher than that in the control group [60.9%(28/46) vs.33.3%(14/42),respectively,P<0.05].Likewise,the live birth rate in the acupuncture group was also higher than that in the control group [71.7%(33/46) vs.31.0%(12/42),P<0.01).Conclusion: Administration of acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer dramatically improved fertility results in women who underwent in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasm sperm injection for reproduction.
