We used the Integrated Biological Responses version 2(IBRv2)method to evaluate the biological eff ects of heavy metals in the sediments in Laizhou Bay,China on the benthic goby Acanthogobius ommaturus.In December 2018,gobies and sediments were collected from 15 stations.We measured the activities of defense enzymes and the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA)and metallothionein(MT)in the goby liver as well as the levels of heavy metals in the sediments and goby muscle tissue.Most of the heavy metal concentrations in sediment at each station were below the Class I criteria set by Chinese Standards for Marine Sediment Quality,and the Håkanson ecological risk index suggested low risk for the heavy metals.We found that A.ommaturus could eff ectively accumulate mercury,cadmium,arsenic,and zinc and that the contents of MT and MDA and the activities of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase were suitable biomarkers of heavy metal pollution in this species.The IBRv2 method integrated these four biomarkers and discriminated stations according to heavy metal pollution.Higher IBRv2 values suggested more adverse eff ects in gobies,corroborating more serious heavy metal contamination.The stations with high IBRv2 values and high contents of heavy metals were mainly distributed in the west and northeast parts of the bay.These results show that the IBRv2 approach is a feasible strategy for assessing heavy metal pollution through biological response and biological status and that it can be implemented for environmental monitoring in Laizhou Bay.

It is common knowledge that Yarmouk River Basin(YRB)is shared between Jordan and Syria.Management of YRB trans-boundary water resources is attracting increasing interest because it is a strategic water resource for the riparian countries.Actually,lack of sharing information regarding hydrological flows and basin’s water management between partners’countries makes it difficult to distinguish between natural and man-made factors affecting the water body.Therefore,this study seeks to address and assess the main on-site changes that exert on YRB.Geospatial technique and arithmetic equations were combined to carry out an assessment of the changes on water resources in YRB.Data,information and field measurements of the basin were aggregated,compiled and presented to determine the extent of changes during the period 1980-2020.Remarkable findings showed that precipitation amount in the basin significantly declined during the period 1980-2020 in particularly after the year 1992.Pumping rate of groundwater was 550 x 103 m3/a,exceeding the basin’s safe yield.Draw down of static groundwater level over time approached the value of-3.2 m/a due to the over abstraction in the aquifer body.Additionally,the evaporation rate reached more than 99%in some regions in the basin.Moreover,the number of private wells has increased from 98 wells in 1980 to 126 wells in 2020,showing the excessive extraction of groundwater.These findings indicate that the study area is subjected to a considerable groundwater depletion in the near future due to extensive abstraction,continuous drilling of illegal wells and decreased annual precipitation under the shadow of the rapid population growth and continuous influx of refugees.Therefore,decision makers-informed scenarios are suggested in the development of water resource portfolios,which involves the combination of management and infrastructural actions that enhance the water productivity of the basin.Further studies are recommended to evaluate the on-site changes on water resources in YRB in collabora

Accurate and reliable evaluation of muscle strength in para-athletes is essential for monitoring the effectiveness of strength training and/or rehabilitation programmes,and sport classification.Our aim is to synthesise evidence related to assessing muscle strength in para-athletes.Four databases were searched from January 1990 to July 2021 for observational studies focusing on strength assessment.Independent screening,data extraction,and quality assessment were performed in duplicate.A total of 1764 potential studies were identified.Thirty met the inclusion criteria and were included in the review.The mean age of participants was 30.7 years(standard deviation[SD]:2.4).The majority were men(88%)participating in wheelchair sports,including basketball,rugby,and tennis(23/30:76%).Overall quality varied,with more than half of the studies failing to identify strategies for dealing with confounding variables.Despite manual muscle testing being a standard component of para-sport classification systems,evidence examining strength characteristics in para-athletes is derived primarily from isometric and isokinetic testing.In studies that included comparative strength data,findings were mixed.Some studies found strength values were similar to or lower than able-bodied athletic controls.However,an important observation was that others reported higher shoulder strength in para-athletes taking part in wheelchair sports than both able-bodied and disabled non-athletes.Studies need to develop accessible,standardised strength testing methods that account for training influence and establish normative strength values in para-athletes.There is also a need for additional studies that include female para-athletes and para-athletes with greater functional impairments.

Since there are many interacting influence factors of the comfortable degree of lactating sows,a method that combines improved analytic hierarchy process(IAHP)and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation(FCE)was introduced to conduct a quantitative evaluation of the comfortable degree.Besides,an evaluation index system was established,and the weights of different indicators were determined by using IAHP method,including temperature,relative humidity,concentrations of carbon dioxide(CO_(2)),ammonia(NH_(3)),hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S),and air speed.The construction method of fuzzy membership function and the calculation method of the parameters were proposed following the principle that the summation of membership degrees is equal to 1.Three basic types of membership functions(MFs),i.e.,ridgemf,gaussmf,and trimf were used to build an evaluation model which fitted IAHP-FCE well.The proposed method was verified and applied based on the environmental data in different seasons obtained from a pig farm in Zhenjiang City,Jiangsu Province,China.It is demonstrated that the proposed IAHP-FCE model with various types of MFs has drawn a unique and consistent conclusion.Moreover,the IAHP-FCE model has a higher correlation coefficient of 0.874 compared with the single-factor evaluation(SFE)model.The IAHP-FCE model could be served as a beneficial strategy for the precise regulation and early warning of environmental conditions to improve sow welfare.

Objective:To provide an overview of the current available music assessment tools after cochlear implantation(Cl);to report on the utilization of music assessments in the literature;to propose potential future directions in music assessment after Cl.Methods:A thorough search was performed in PubMed,Embase,and The Cochrane Library through October 31,2020.MeSH search terms,keywords,and phrases included“fcochlear implant,”“fcochlear prosthesis,”“auditory prosthesis,”“music,”“music assessment,”“music questionnaire,”“music perception,”“musk enjoyment,and,fmusic experience.”Potentially relevant studies were reviewed for inclusion,with particular focus on assessments developed specifically for the cochlear implant population and intended for widespread use.Results/conclusions:Six hundred and forty-three studies were screened for relevance to assessment of music experience among cochlear implantees.Eighty-one studies ultimately met criteria for inclusion.There are multiple validated tools for assessment of music experience after cochlear implantation,each of which provide slightly differing insights into the patients1 subjective and/or objective post-activation experience.However,no single assessment tool has been adopted into widespread use and thus,much of the literature pertaining to this topic evaluates outcomes non-uniformly,including single-use assessments designed specifically for the study at hand.The lack of a widely accepted universal tool for assessment of music limits our collective understanding the contributory and mitigating factors applicable to current music experience of cochlear implantees,and limits our ability to uniformly evaluate the success of new implant technologies or music training paradigms.

Objectives:This study aimed to assess the effect of hearing and speech rehabilitation in patients with Nurotron■cochlear implants.Design:Ninety-eight paediatric patients with bilateral severe-to-profound sensorineural deafness who received cochlear implantation were divided into three groups according to age:group A(≤3 years),group B(4-7 years),and group C(8-16 years).All patients were followed up for one year for hearing and speech performance after the surgery.The comprehensive Auditory Perception assessment,MAIS,CAP and SIR hearing and speech assessments and rating materials were used for assessment before the surgery and at 3,6,and 12 months after implant activation.Results:The scores of patients in the open-set speech assessment,Chinese Auditory Perception assessment,MAIS,CAP and SIR significantly improved after cochlear implantation in all age groups.The younger the age at implantation,the better the results.Moreover,the hearing and speech performance of cochlear implant recipients gradually improved with the extension of rehabilitation time.Conclusions:Nurotron■Venus^TM cochlear implantation can improve the hearing and speech performance of patients with bilateral severe-to-profound sensorineural deafness.

The Yangtze River is the third largest river in the world and the longest and largest river in China.China has adopted a national strategy to protect the Yangtze River.A better understanding of the ecosystem services value along the Yangtze River would provide support for the Yangtze River protection strategy.Using Costanza’s method to estimate the ecosystem services value,the value of 10 ecosystem services was estimated within 1 km and 2 km from the Yangtze River in 2017.These 10 services were derived from the four established groupings of provisioning,regulating,supporting,and cultural services.This study compared and analyzed the changes in the ecosystem services value in the upper,middle,and lower reaches of the river,and in provinces,cities,and villages along the Yangtze River.The total ecosystem services value within 1 km and 2 km from the river was 37.208 and 43.769 billion yuan,respectively.Within 1 km,the ecosystem services value in the middle reaches was 12.93 billion yuan,while the next highest value was in the upper reaches at 12.45 billion yuan,and the downstream area had the smallest value of 11.855 billion yuan.Within 2 km,the value of upstream ecosystem services was the highest at 16.31 billion yuan,while the second highest value was in the middle reaches at 14.376 billion yuan,and the smallest value was in the downstream area at 13.083 billion yuan.In the Yangtze River Basin,regulating services played a leading role,accounting for 81.6%and 78.9%of the ecosystem services value within 1 km and 2 km from the river,respectively.Among the 10 ecosystem services,hydrological regulation was the most important,while the value of raw material production made the smallest contribution.Among the provinces and cities along the Yangtze River,the highest ecosystem services value was in Hubei Province,while the lowest values were in Shanghai and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.If villages within 1 km and 2 km from the river were to be relocated,the total regional ecological value would increase by 527 and 975 million

To the Editor: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) was first surgically repaired in 1955. Initial TOF repairs were performed using a trans-annular right ventricular outflow tract patch to relieve the obstruction. However, this procedure resulted in long-standing pulmonary valve regurgitation and increased right ventricular (RV) volume, causing arrhythmias and sudden death.[1] Thus, pulmonary annulus preservation became the most prevalent surgical strategy for TOF repair, possibly causing a mix of pulmonary stenosis and pulmonary valve regurgitation. Currently, clinicians concerned with RV function decrease during the long-term follow-up use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to predict the appropriate timing of interventions for valve sparing. Although CMR techniques have evolved as the reference standard for assessing RV volumes and function during the last two decades, routinely monitoring the progression of repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) RV dysfunction remains difficult.

Deep learning has received a growing interest in recent years for detecting different types of pavement distresses and automating pavement condition assessment.A proper choice of deep learning models is key for successful pavement assessment applications.In this study,we first present a comprehensive experimental comparison of state-of-the-art image classification models to evaluate their performances on 11 pavement objects classification.Our experiments are conducted in different dimensions of comparison,including deep classifier architecture,effects of network depth,and computational costs.Five convolutional neural network(CNN)classifiers widely used in transportation applications,including VGG16,VGG19,ResNet50,DenseNet121,and a generic CNN(as the control model),are tested with a comprehensive pixel-level annotated dataset for 11 different distress and non-distress classes(UCF-PAVE 2017).In addition,we investigate a simple yet effective approach of encoding contextual information with multi-scale input tiles to classify highly random pavement objects in size,shape,intensity,texture,and direction.Our comparison results show that the multi-scale approach significantly improves the classification accuracy for all compared deep classifiers at a negligible extra computational cost.Finally,we provide recommendations of how to improve the classification performance of deep CNNs for automated pavement condition assessment based on the comparison results.
