Evaluation of Extracts of Native and Non-Native Plant Species for the Suppression of Cogongrass （Imperata cylindrica L.）

Effects of the extracts of muhly grass （Muhlenbergia capillaries Lam.）, chenopodium （Chenopodium ambrosioides L.） and black walnut （Juglans nigra L.） on the growth of cogongrass （Imperata cylindrica L.） were studied. None purified extracts from these plant species were used to evaluate survival, shoot and root growth of cogongrass. Results of plant species extracts on the production of roots, shoot and rhizomes of cogongrass genets and ramets were determined on a weekly basis. The extracts significantly reduced the growth and survival of cogongrass when compared to the control. Results indicated that for the in vivo studies, chenopodium extracts, black walnut and muhly grass extracts reduced growth, root and shoot biomass of cogongrass by 50 %, 30 % and 41% respectively, compared to control at 8 weeks after planting. These studies indicated plant species with potential for the biological control of cogongrass, an invasive species in the Gulf Coast States.

Since the 1990s,the technology about maize straw returned to the field is being popularized in each region under the new farming system in ***,in recent years,the root diseases of wheat are becoming worse and worse in the soil with maize straw returned for a Long *** order to find the reasons,the culture dish and pot experiments were conducted to study the allelopathy.of decomposing products of maize straw,Zhengdan 958,on three species root diseases of wheat,Liangxing 99,including Sharp Eyespot,Root Rot and *** results showed that,with increasing concentration of decomposing products of maize straw,the root POD activity,plant height,leaf number,root length,and root number increased firstly and then decreased,while the root ion leakage was in *** root growth of wheat was more sensitive than shoot to decomposing products,and only the lowest concentration at 0.03 g DW mL-1 showed a promoted effect on the root growth with a low comprehensive index of allelopathic potential,*** the same time,0.06,0.12,0.24 and 0.48 g DW mL-1 decomposing products inhibited the growth,*** increasing concentration of decomposing products,mycelial growth,sclerotia formation amount,and total weight of Rhizoctonia cerealis Vander Hoeven and mycelial growth of Gaeumannomyces graminis (Sacc.) Arx et Olivier increased firstly and then decreased,while there was no effect on the average weight of *** different concentrations decomposed products inhibited significantly the mycelial growth and spore germination of Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.) Shoem.,and the RI of the highest concentration *** occurrence of Sharp Eyespot reduced after being irrigated with 0.03 and 0.06 g DW mL-1 decomposed *** were both no significant differences on the incidence rates and disease indexes between the treatments and ***,the incidence rates and disease indexes increased significantly after being irrigated with 0.12,0.24 and 0.48 g
