In order to investigate directionality of thermal infrared emission from crop canopies, a wide-angle thermal video camera (INFRAMETRICS) equipped with an 80?FOV lens was mounted on a small aircraft and used to acquire thermal imagery along several different flight traces. Accordingly, multi-angle directional brightness temperatures were acquired at different view angles for individual pixel. The flight experiment was carried out from January 1997 to October 1997 over a 5 kmx5 km flat agricultural area, located near Avignon, southeastern *** paper presents results from analyses performed using these data including instrument calibration, radiometric correction, atmospheric correction, temperature temporal adjustment, geometric matching and registration of images. Results are presented for different thermal infrared emission patterns of different surface types including bare soil, wheat, maize and sunflower at different growth stages.

An epidemiologic health survey was carried out among 314 workers in one of grain elevators in Shenyang.A medical and occupational questionnaire was administered by trained interviewers. Spirometry was performed on site. 61.47% of the grain workers complained of one or more respiratory symptoms during or after exposure to airborne grain *** prevalence of various symptoms was significantly higher among grain workers than control subjects. 15.6% of the grain workers had episodes of grain fever. The mean values of Vmax75, Vmax50, and Vmax25 was significantly lower for grain workers than control subjects, suggesting that the group of grain workers had evidence of small airway dysfunction. Pulmonary function abnormalities were associated with increased duration of employment in the grain elevator,smoking was also associated with deterioration of respiratory function.

During the 21st century,the contribution of the Antarctic*Ice Sheet(AIS)to sea level rise has been increasing,affecting coastal regions and their large populations and economies(Moore et al.,2018).The ice loss from the AIS is driven primarily by increased melting of ice shelves by warm ocean waters and the subsequent acceleration,retreat and rapid thinning of the major outlet glaciers of the West Antarctic ice sheet(IPCC,2019).However,subglacial conditions(thermodynamics and hydrology)of AIS remain poorly understood,despite recent advances in satellite and ground-based observations,and this makes it difficult to project the amount of future ice *** better understand the most compelling scientific issues addressing subglacial conditions,and following several recent technical and operational advances,the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC)launched a special program named the“Polar Basic Science Frontier”.

Tectonic-Geophysical Mapping of Israel and the Eastern Mediterranean: Implications for Hydrocarbon Prospecting

The eastern Mediterranean is a tectonically complex region evolving in the long term located in the midst of the progressive Afro-Eurasian collision. Despite years of investigation, its geological-geophysical structure is not completely known. At the same time, the recent discovery of large gas deposits has attracted the attention of many researchers to this region. For instance, the latest U. S. Geological Survey estimates using conventional assessment methodology suggest that there are on the order of 1.7 billion barrels of recoverable oil and more than 4 trillion m3 of recoverable gas in the Levant Basin [1]. This highlights the need for analysis of the paleogeographical conditions that can yield deep paleotectonic criteria for oil and gas discovery in this region. For this purpose, isopach maps of the Middle-Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous were generated from detailed examinations of numerous well sections and the most significant outcroppings in the eastern Mediterranean. The maps confirm an earlier model of continental accretion [2]. In particular, abrupt changes in the trend and thickness of the Early Mesozoic formations coincide with the terrane boundaries. These compiled isopach maps also pinpoint significant distinctions between the Arabian and Sinai plates on the one hand and the Syrian arc on the other. A new tectonic map of the eastern Mediterranean is presented that first of all integrates geophysical satellite-derived gravity and airborne magnetic fields, as well as tectonic-structural, paleogeographical and facial analyses. The results have clear implications for hydrocarbon prospecting in this region.

Phenolic compounds are emitted into earth’s atmosphere through industry and biomass burning events. These compounds may react in the gas or particle phase to form additional airborne pollutants. In this work, the aqueous phase chemical reactions of syringol, guaiacol, and catechol were studied in the presence of nitrate (NO-3 ) or nitrite ( NO-2) with and without UV illumination. The reactions were found to yield light absorbing products and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) experiments indicate some of the compounds formed may be the nitrated analogues of the starting organic compounds. However, infrared absorption data suggests the reaction products are composed of a complicated mixture. This suggests additional reactions occur simultaneously in solution. Treatment of the isolated reaction products with ozone (O3) suggest they are unstable and will eventually chemically decompose if/when formed in the atmosphere.

Crop production models are highly developed to account for different nitrogen, light, temperature and water availability conditions and, in some species, disease or air pollutant effects. There is very limited knowledge on responses of many tropical crops, such as oil palm (Elaeis guineensis), to air pollutants although predictions of these effects are essential for industrial planning in several countries. In the absence of limitations due to water supply, the effects of leaf area loss due to necrosis and chlorosis are much more important to canopy photosynthesis than are changes in the physiological attributes that influence the efficiency of light use. Therefore, potential losses of crop production due to air pollutants such as fluoride can be inferred usefully from the extent of visible injury to foliage that may be associated with different levels of pollutant exposure.
