According to the World Health Organization’s world report on hearing,nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide will suffer from hearing loss by 2050,which may contribute to a severe impact on individual life quality and national economies.Sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL)occurs commonly as a result of noise exposure,aging,and ototoxic drugs,and is pathologically characterized by the impairment of mechanosensory hair cells of the inner ear,which is mainly triggered by reactive oxygen species accumulation,inflammation,and mitochondrial dysfunction.Though recent advances have been made in understanding the ability of cochlear repair and regeneration,there are still no effective therapeutic drugs for SNHL.Chinese herbal medicine which is widely distributed and easily accessible in China has demonstrated a unique curative effect against SNHL with higher safety and lower cost compared with Western medicine.Herein we present trends in research for Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of SNHL,and elucidate their molecular mechanisms of action,to pave the way for further research and development of novel effective drugs in this field.

Licorice,a perennial herb of Leguminosa,is one of the oldest and most widely used herbal medicines worldwide.Its distinct sweet flavor and rich medicinal value make it an integral component of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formulations,which continue to be widely employed.The main chemical constituents of licorice include triterpenoid saponins,flavonoids,and polysaccharides.Experimental and clinical studies have demonstrated that various extracts and pure compounds derived from licorice exhibit a wide range of pharmacological properties including anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,antimicrobial,antiviral,antitumor,immune-regulatory,and neuroprotective activities.The bioactive constituents of licorice offer therapeutic benefits for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,diabetes mellitus,and liver disorders.This comprehensive review discusses the primary chemical constituents of licorice and their pharmacological activities,describes in vivo and in vitro models employed for studying licorice,and its potential targets and mechanisms of action.Furthermore,we discuss the toxicological profile,side effects,dosage recommendations,and clinical applications of licorice.This review aims to establish a foundation for further research on the safe and effective utilization of licorice while facilitating an in-depth exploration of its properties and fostering the development of novel therapeutic agents.

Background:Based on the long history of medicinal value and modern pharmacological research,a systematic collation of the Clinacanthus nutans has been carried out with a view to providing useful references for the clinical application of the Clinacanthus nutans in hepatoprotection and the research and development of new drugs.Methods:The research progress of a large number of domestic and international studies on the therapeutic mechanism of the antiliver diseases of Clinacanthus nutans and its active ingredients is summarized.The aim is to explore the greater value of the herb.Results:The major chemical constituents with pharmacological activities of the Clinacanthus nutans were summarized,and a feasible mechanism of action was compiled and analyzed.Conclusion:Many studies have confirmed the great medicinal value of Clinacanthus nutans and its active monomer components,especially in the prevention and treatment of liver diseases,which is worthy of more in-depth research,development and utilization.Chinese medicine is the treasure of China,therefore,it should be used in more clinical applications.

As a traditional Chinese herb,dandelion,containing complicated active ingredients which includes polysaccharide,flavonoid,terpene,pigment,phytosterol,coumarin,organic acid and etc,plays significant roles in various physiological activities in organisms.The active ingredients generally interfere in signal transduction of cancer cells,regulate cell cycle and apoptotic protein expression,inhibit cancer cells proliferation and migration and etc,which effectively restrains tumor development and deterioration.This article summarizes the anti-tumor mechanism of five active ingredients in dandelion through paper reading which provides thoughts and references for anti-tumor research.

Honeysuckle, the dry flower bud or with open flower of Lonicerajaponica in caprifoliaceae, has been touted as a cure-all for heat-clearing and detoxifying effect. Honeysuckle contains abundant components such as volatile oil, flavonoids and organic acids, playing the role of antibiosis, antivirus, antiphlogosis, immunopotenfiation and antioxidation. The active ingredients and pharmacological action of honeysuckle are reviewed in the paper, so as to lay the foundation for further application of honeysuckle in veterinary clinic.

Due to the special physiological and pathological characteristics of gliomas,most therapeutic drugs are prevented from entering the brain.To improve the poor prognosis of existing therapies,researchers have been continuously developing non-invasive methods to overcome barriers to gliomas therapy.Although these strategies can be used clinically to overcome the blood-brain barrier(BBB),the accurate delivery of drugs to the glioma lesions cannot be ensured.Nano-drug delivery systems(NDDS)have been widely used for precise drug delivery.In recent years,researchers have gathered their wisdom to overcome barriers,so many well-designed NDDS have performed prominently in preclinical studies.These meticulous designs mainly include cascade passing through BBB and targeting to glioma lesions,drug release in response to the glioma microenvironment,biomimetic delivery systems based on endogenous cells/extracellular vesicles/protein,and carriers created according to the active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicines.We reviewed these well-designed NDDS in detail.Furthermore,we discussed the current ongoing and completed clinical trials of NDDS for gliomas therapy,and analyzed the challenges and trends faced by clinical translation of these well-designed NDDS.

The Latest Research Advances of Danggui Buxue Tang as an Effective Prescription for Various Diseases: A Comprehensive Review

Purple sweet potato not only has the nutritional components of ordinary sweet potatoes, but also contains polysaccharides and flavonoids. It is also rich in selenium and anthocyanins, and has certain functions of preventing high blood pressure, reducing liver dysfunction, and fighting cancer. It is of great significance for purple sweet potato study. In this paper, the active ingredients in purple sweet potato were extracted by fabric phase sorptive extraction(FPSE). The extracts were separated and detected by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The FPSE conditions such as adsorption time, eluent type, and elution time were optimized. The HPLC separation conditions such as gradient, sample size, velocity and mobile phase were also considered. Under the optimal conditions, the active components of purple sweet potato were found to be effectively separated.

Danggui Buxue Tang(DBT)is composed of Astragali Radix and Angelicae Sinensis Radix in a weight ratio of 5:1.The recipe of the decoction is simple,and DBT has been widely used in the treatment of blood deficiency syndrome for more than 800 years in China.Studies on its chemical constituents show that saponins,flavonoids,volatile oils,organic acids,and polysaccharides are the main components of DBT.Many techniques such as third-generation sequencing,PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis,and HPLC-MS have been used for the quality control of DBT.DBT has a wide range of biological activities,including blood enhancement,antagonizing diabetic nephropathy,cardiovascular protection,immunity stimulation,estrogen-like effect,and antifibrosis,among others.In this paper,we summarize the recent research advances of DBT in terms of its components,pharmacological activities,and possible mechanisms of action as well as provide suggestions for further research.
