The activated sludge process is an important treatment method of civil wastewater. Controlling of the activated sludge process is one of the most important and challenging tasks because of its strong nonlinearities and large uncertain dynamics. In this paper we present a nonlinear adaptive control approach to solve the dissolved oxygen concentration control problem for an uncertain wastewater treatment process. In the controller design, all uncertain dynamics of the wastewater treatment are approximated by using radial basis function(RBF) neural networks(NNs).The proposed adaptive NN control can guarantee semi-global uniform boundedness of all the closed-loop system signals as rigorously proved by Lyapunov synthesis. The control strategy is applied for an activated sludge process with the pre-denitrification technique to remove the nutrient nitrogen from the wastewater. The simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear adaptive control approach.

＜正＞activated sludge process is the main technology for modern wastewater treatment. The principle and development of integrated dynamic simulation system for activated sludge process was finished here. This simulation system is mainly applied to predicting the performance of wastewater treatment based on the theory of simplified sludge model and one-dimension settling model of circular secondary settler. The application example shows that this simulation system is a valuable tool for the plant operator or designer in forecasting or explaining the performance of wastewater treatment.

Soluble microbial products(SMPs),dissolved organic matter excreted by activated sludge,can interact with antibiotics in wastewater and natural water *** between SMPs and antibiotics can influence antibiotic migration,transformation,and toxicity but the mechanisms involved in such interactions are not fully *** this study,integrated spectroscopy approaches were used to investigate the mechanisms involved in interactions between SMPs and a representative antibiotic,trimethoprim(TMP),which has a low biodegradation rate and has been detected in *** results of liquid chromatography-organic carbon detection-organic nitrogen detection indicated that the SMPs used in the study contained 15% biopolymers and 28% humic-like substances(based on the total dissolved organic carbon concentration)so would have contained sites that could interact with TMP.A linear relationship of fluorescent intensities of tryptophan protein-like substances in SMP was observed(R^(2)>0.99),indicating that the fluorescence enhancement between SMP and TMP ***-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated that carboxyl,carbonyl,and hydroxyl groups were the main functional groups involved in the *** electrostatic andπ-πinteractions were discovered by the UV-vis spectra and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance *** representations of the interactions between representative SMP subcomponents and TMP were calculated using density functional theory,and the results confirmed the conclusions drawn from the 1H nuclear magnetic resonance *** results help characterize SMP–TMP complexes and will help understand antibiotic transformations in wastewater treatment plants and aquatic environments.

This paper present a prediction model for three different objection(the airflow rate,the carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand（CBOD） of the effluent,and the total suspend solids（TSS） of the *** model is built by the MLP neural *** accurancy of the prediction result of MLP neural network is compared with the accurancy of the result of trational stational autoregressive model（AR）.The conclution is that the percentage error prediction model of the MLP neural network（PE）,the fractional deviation（FB）,normalized mean square error（NMSE）,the mean absolute error（MAE） and mean square error（MSE） prediction model of evaluation index is better than the AR *** other words,the prediction model based on MLP neural network provides a reliable basis for reducing the energy consumption in the activated sludge process of industrial waste water treatment and further improving its effect on the treatment of industrial waste water.

An oxic-anoxic-oxic(O-A-O)system followed by coagulation and ozonation processes was used to study the treatment of coking *** the O-A-O process,the removals of NH4+-N,total nitrogen and COD were 91.5-93.3%,91.3-92.6%and 89.1-93.8%,respectively when employing hydraulic residence times of 60 h for the biochemical *** removal of NH4+-N was obtained due to the placement of an aerobic tank in front of A-O system which can mitigate the inhibitory effect of toxic compounds in coking wastewater on nitrifying *** of methanol into the anoxic reactor greatly increased the removal of total nitrogen,indicating that denitrifiers can hardly use organic compounds in coking wastewater as carbon source for *** values of the effluent from the O-A-O system were still higher than 260 mg/L even with a prolonged time of 160 h mainly due to the high refractory properties of residual compounds in the *** subsequent coagulation and ozonation processes resulted in the COD removal of 91.5%-93.3%and reduced the relative abundance of large molecular weight(MW)organics(>1 kDa)from 55.8%to 20.93%with the ozone,PAC and PAM dosages of 100,150 and 4 mg/L *** these conditions,the COD value and concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the final effluent were less than 80 and 0.05 mg/L,respectively,which meet the requirement of the Chinese emission *** results indicate that the combined technology of O-A-O process,coagulation and ozonation is a reliable way for the treatment of coking wastewater.

Most of the monitoring data on the occurrence of antibiotics in sewage treatment plants(STPs)have been reported from Europe,North America and some countries in Northeast Asia,while very limited data can be found in Southeast Asian *** a pioneering research in Sri Lanka,we collected 24 h composite wastewater samples at the influent and effluent of two municipal STPs for consecutive 7 days to investigate occurrence,consumption and removal efficiency of seventeen *** STP was located in Colombo and Hikkaduwa,respectively,representing two kinds of communities(*** and tourists)in Sri *** targeted antibiotics were extracted by solid-phase extraction method and detected on an Agilent HPLCMSMS(1290/6470QQQ).Results illustrated that the majority of the antibiotics can be always detected from both STPs,except for chlorotetracycine(CTC),doxycycline(DOX)and florfenicol(FF).Fluoroquinolones(FQs)were detected at highest concentrations with ciprofloxacin(CIP)being the dominant *** of CIP in the influent samples were in the range of 433 e6010 ng/*** consumption of antibiotics was estimated on the basis of influent mass load and catchment population *** found difference in consumption patterns between the two served *** to local people in Colombo,tourists in Hikkaduwa appeared to take more antibiotics during the study period with the estimated daily dose of 0.25 g per 1000 ***,macrolides accounted for a larger portion than FQs in Hikkaduwa,with azithromycin(AZM)being the most prevalent antibacterial *** comparison with an official report by Medical Supplies Division of Sri Lanka,we conjected that AZM was not commonly used among local people and it was mainly introduced by foreign *** for the removal efficiency,the activated sludge system of Colombo exhibited better elimination and more stable performance than the constructed wetland process of Hikkaduwa.

activated sludge wastewater treatment processes are difficult to be controlled because of their complex and nonlinear ***,the control of the ammonia concentration is very important to achieve the effluent *** this paper,the ammonia model is developed which could be used for model predictive control（MPC） of ammonia concentration to a certain value in a wastewater treatment *** control strategy is investigated and evaluated based on the simulation benchmark-the ammonia concentration is controlled to maintain at different set-point ammonia concentration in an activated sludge process using *** effect of parameters such as the predictive horizon,the control horizon,the weights of input and the sample time are also *** simulation results show that MPC can be effectively used for ammonia control in wastewater treatment plants.

These days, water and wastewater treatment are one of the most important issues regarding to the human health. Wastewaters are one of the most environmental pollutants and a wide range of adverse effects linked to the effect of untreated wastewaters or wastewaters that treat improperly. The aim of this present study was to evaluate performance of the wastewater treatment plant at Al-Diwaniyah City according to the national standards. Therefore, data of the most common parameters (PH, BOD5, COD, TSS, PO4, NO3, Cl, and Oil and Grease) were collected from the wastewater treatment plant. The study revealed that the wastewater treatment plant was receiving medium to strong influent with a BOD5/COD ratio of between (0.4 - 0.7). Regression analysis was achieved to approximate the influent of BOD5 and TSS. While the effluent quality was exceeded the Iraq standards for disposing treated wastewater to the water bodies with a fluctuation in the ratio of BOD5to COD as a consequence of the operational problems. Therefore, these results would be of help to planners and policy makers in the City to combat such this problem and to take the necessary actions to reduce the impact of these pollutants.
