More children nutrition distribution, less labor incentive: Evidence from Chinese collective agriculture

Distribution system will affect the labor incentive that has been heatedly discussed by recent literatures.Using a unique micro dataset, this paper dem on strates that the equalitaria n distributi on system is one of the reas ons for the in sufficie nt labor incentive during the Chinese Collective Agriculture period. Specifically speaking, in the distribution of basic rations, the proportion for children (aged 1-3 and 4-7 years) was often beyond their nutrition demand, resulting the dissatisfaction of other families with more laborers and less children, thus these households will reduce their labor supply gradually. At the same time, the existence of outstanding accounts makes it a failure to use work points to buy distributions, which is the mechanism of the distribution system and insufficient labor incentive. All the results have been accepted by the robustness tests. The study will help to understand the distribution system and labor incentive, as well as the failure of the Chinese collective agriculture.

The Impact of R&D Capitalization on Macroeconomic Variables: From the Perspective of the Adjustment of NIPAS in USA

Based on the results of the 14 thcomprehensive adjustment of NIPAS published by BEA in July of 2013,this paper employs the national economic accounting principles to analyze the impact of R&D capitalization on Macroeconomic Variables from both the theoretical and empirical aspects. The results show that R&D capitalization will produce impact on many macroeconomic variables. Although some changes of the indexes are very small in amount, the implementation of capitalized accounting on R&D is the requirement of SNA 2008 and an inevitable trend of international accounting changes. China must further improve the statistical content of R&D, revise the accounting caliber and classification standards for R&D, explore the accounting models for R&D satellite accounts, improve the quality of R&D accounting data, strengthen the understanding of the essence of SNA 2008, so as to promote the integration of Chinese national economic accounting system with SNA 2008 as soon as possible.

A comparison of Chinese,U.S.savings rates

The major statistical difference between the Chinese and U.S.savings rates is that the United States adopts the conceptof a net savings rate, while China adopts the concept of gross savings rate in which savings include asset depreciation.Despite the different statistical calculations, we can come to the following conclusions: i) the savings rate in China hasbeen rising and that of the United States has been falling; ii) the savings rate in China is high and that of the UnitedStates is low; and iii) the household savings rate in China is high and the personal savings rate of the United States islow.The gap between China and the United States’ savings levels reflects residents’ loss of a sense of security, an absenceof enterprises’ social obligations and the enhancement of the government’s power over the whole economy during theprocess of institutional reform in China.Hence, while firmly promoting social-security system reform and advancingnational income allocation system reform, it is of significance in the long term for China to restrain enterprises’ andgovernment’s allocation behaviors and prevent public department interests from being solidified.
