Ecological Pushes and Pulls on Women academics’ Pursuit of Research in China

Women academics reportedly exhibit lower research productivity than males.This study first quantitatively explored gender differences in research output based on a survey among 309 Chinese academics teaching English as a foreign language(TEFL).Qualitative data obtained through interviews with seven female respondents were analyzed from an ecological perspective.Results showed significant gender differences in domestic publication but no such differences in international publication.Women academics’pursuit of research was influenced by many factors from and beyond the microsystems of workplace and family,and their coping strategies included soliciting help from seasoned colleagues,attending academic conferences,and joining online communities.The findings highlight the institutional supportive practices and familial environment that are equally important in promoting women academics’professional development.

Chinese academics Going to the World： A Chinese BlueprintResponding to the Problems in the Age of Neo-globalization

＂The Chinese Communists and the Chinese people are full of confidence to supply the human beings witha Chinese blueprint for the exploration of a better social system.＂ The grand transforming from the old globalizationto the new one serves as a historical field domain for the Chinese blueprint to come on the stage. The neo-Chinesemodernism surpassing the western modern and linear logic has become the essence of the Chinese blueprint aiming atthe great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. The logic of the localization of Marxism in China needs to focus profoundlyon the problems China, hold fast to the Chinese standpoint, gaze at the Chinese field of vision, create Chinese theo-ries and Chinese Discourse, and become the subjective condition of a Chinese blueprint, To compose a Chinese blue-print of ＂a better social system＂, it is necessary that the Chinese academics especially the localized Marxism in Chinashould innovate, adhering to the ＂Four Self-confidences＂, to go to the world creatively, on the base of summarizingconstantly, comprehensively and thoroughly the experience of the exploration for a Chinese Path. The presence of aChinese blueprint signifies a grand transforming of the age of neo-globalization from ＂the world coming to China＂ to＂China going to the world＂, signifies a sharp rise of ＂the community of human destiny＂ in the context of the age ofneo-globalization, signifies a historical undertaking by the localized Marxism in China of the great mission of goingto the world and taking the lead of the human development.

Data Mining Technology across Academic Disciplines

University courses in data mining across the United States are taught primarily in departments of business, computer science/engineering, statistics, and library/information science. Faculty in each of these departments teach data mining with a unique emphasis, although there is considerable overlap relative to course offerings, terminology, technology, resources, and faculty publications. Content analysis research aims to describe in detail the range of data mining technology differences and overlap across academic disciplines.
