Predictive Factors of the Presence and Number of Noncalcified Coronary Plaque in Japanese Patients with zero Coronary Artery Calcium Score Using 64-Slice Multi-Detector Computed Tomography

Background: Factors that can predict the presence and number of noncalcified coronary plaques (NCP) in Japanese patients with zero coronary artery calcium scores (CACS) essentially remain undefined. Methods and Results: We assessed independent predictors of the presence and number of segments with NCP in 111 Japanese patients with zero CACS who underwent 64-slice multi-detector computed tomography at our hospital. Thirty five patients (32%) had NCP, and 24 patients (22%) had ≥ 2 NCPs. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that significant predictors for the presence of NCP were age (odds ratio [OR]: 1.06, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01 - 1.11, p = 0.021), male (OR: 3.61, 95% CI 1.40 - 9.35, p = 0.008) and diabetes mellitus (OR: 3.10, 95% CI 1.02 - 9.45, p = 0.046), and those for the presence of ≥ 2 NCPs were age (OR: 1.08, 95% CI 1.02 - 1.15, p = 0.007) and a current smoking habit (OR: 5.09, 95% CI 1.00 - 25.74, p = 0.049). Multiple linear regression analysis identified advanced age, male gender and diabetes mellitus as independent predictors of the number of NCPs. A novel score calculated from the above four predictors showed moderate accuracy for a diagnosis of NCP and ≥ 2 NCPs, with areas under receiver operating curves of 0.738 and 0.736, respectively. Conclusions: Male Japanese patients with zero CACS, advanced age, diabetes mellitus and a current smoking habit might have NCPs.

Numerical Study of Highly Nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fiber with Tunable zero Dispersion Wavelengths

Solid-core silica photonic crystal fiber is proposed borrowing the concept of golden ratio (1.618) and keeping it between pitch and air hole diameter Λ/d in a subset of six rings of air-holes with hexagonal arrangement. In the case when we have a pitch equal to one micron (Λ = 1 μm), we need air-holes diameters d = 0.618 μm in order to achieve two zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) points at 725 nm and 1055 nm;this gives us the possibility to use the fiber for supercontinuum generation, by pumping close to that points, pulse compression or reshaping. We analyzed a series of fibers using this relation and showed the possibilities of tunable ZDW in a wide range of wavelengths from 725 nm to 2000 nm, with low losses and small effective area. In agreement with the ZDW point needed, the geometry of the structure can be modified to the point of having only three rings of air holes that surround the solid core with low losses and good confinement mode. The design proposed here is analyzed using the finite element method with perfectly matched layers, including the material dispersion directly into the model applying the Sellmeier’s equation.

The ~3.6 to 3.7 M Paucity in Global Earthquake Frequency: Potential Coupling to zero Point Fluctuation Force and Quantum Energies

There has been protracted historical evidence of a relative paucity in the distribution frequency of global earthquakes within the M = 3.5 to 4.0 range. We observed a similar phenomenon for all recently recorded earthquakes from January 2009 through August 2013. Frequency distributions with increments of M = 0.1 verified the trough of the diminished incidence to be between M = 3.6 and 3.7 with an abrupt increase between M = 3.9 and 4.0. The calculated equivalent photon wavelength for the energies associated with M = 3.6 approaches Planck’s Length while the related time increment is the cutoff frequency for the zero Point Fluctuation force coupled to gravity. The conspicuous congruence between Planck’s time and length and the lower than expected frequency based upon Gaussian assumptions of distribution for the discrete band of energy associated with this magnitude range of earthquakes suggests a conduit may exist between intrinsic features of Planck space-time and geophysical processes. The existence of such a connection would encourage alternative explanations for sun-seismic activities as due to solar instabilities. Instead, it may reflect influence upon both from alterations in the structure of space being traversed by the solar system as it moves through the galaxy.

Adaptive zero Phase Error Feedforward Method for Robotic Force Control

In order to remove the time delay between the input and the output signals of a robot force control system,adaptive zero phase error feedforward(AZPEF)control method is presented and applied to PUMA 560 industrial robot,which has six degree of freedom(6-DOF).The whole adaptive force control algorithm is implemented on TMS320C30 micro-processor whose instruction cycle is *** results of the force control experiments prove that AZPEF force control makes robot have good robustness and quick response ability.
