Loneliness is classically defined as a result of perceiving a discrepancy between the desired quantity and quality of one's social life and actual social relationships(Perlman and Peplau,1984).Lifespan research has indicated older adults are among the highest risk for experiencing loneliness because their social network size decreases more frequently than that of younger adults.

Background The neurophysiological differences in cortical plasticity and cholinergic system function due to ageing and their correlation with cognitive function remain poorly understood.Aims To reveal the differences in long-term potentiation(LTP)-like plasticity and short-latency afferent inhibition(SAl)between older and younger individuals,alongside their correlation with cognitive function using transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS).Methods The cross-sectional study involved 31 younger adults aged 18-30 and 46 older adults aged 60-80.All participants underwent comprehensive cognitive assessments and a neurophysiological evaluation based on TMS.Cognitive function assessments included evaluations of global cognitive function,language,memory and executive function.The neurophysiological assessment included LTP-like plasticity and SAl.Results The findings of this study revealed a decline in LTP among the older adults compared with the younger adults(wald χ^(2)=3.98,p=0.046).Subgroup analysis further demonstrated a significant reduction in SAl level among individuals aged 70-80 years in comparison to both the younger adults(SAI(N20)):(t=-3.37,p=0.018);SAl(N20+4):(t=-3.13,p=0.038)and those aged 60-70(SAl(N20)):(t=3.26,p=0.025);SAl(N20+4):(t=-3.69,p=0.006).Conversely,there was no notable difference in SAl level between those aged 60-70 years and the younger group.Furthermore,after employing the Bonferroni correction,the correlation analysis revealed that only the positive correlation between LTP-like plasticity and language function(r=0.61,pyounger group remained statistically significant.Conclusions During the normal ageing process,a decline in synaptic plasticity may precede cholinergic system dysfunction.In individuals over 60 years of age,there is a reduction in LTP-like plasticity,while a decline in cholinergic system function is observed in those over 70.Thus,the cholinergic system may play a vital role in preventing cognitive decline during normal ageing.In younger individuals,LTP-like plasticit

When a child is born,they are just a weak,needy little new life.Until one day,they grow into a capable,independent,responsible,strong,charming,personality-filled,creative,and passionate adult.This long process of growth cannot be separated from the assistance of parents.A child's growth is influenced by three major educational environments:school education,social education,and family education.It is generally believed that school education accounts for 25%,social education accounts for 5%,and family education accounts for 70%.The younger the child,the greater the influence of the family and school.The older the child,the greater the influence of society.This ratio fluctuates,but no matter how it fluctuates,family education always occupies the largest proportion of the child's growth process.Schools focus on ensuring cognitive completion,while other aspects of life growth are to be undertaken by parents.

The loess and desert transitional zone of China responses sensitively to the Asian monsoon fluctuations. A high resolution loess-dust and aeolian sand-paleosols section records the climatic history of the younger Dryas. Based upon AMS 14C dating of pollen concentrates and proxy climate indices including magnetic susceptibility, organic carbon content and grain size, it is demonstrated that the Asian monsoon climate manifests not only cooling as in other regions of the Northern Hemisphere, but also unusual oscillations in precipitation which were probably associated with atmospheric interactions between both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and atmospheric pressure anomalies of topic Pacific Ocean （ENSO）.

Summary What is already known about this topic?Herpes zoster(shingles)is a common skin condition in older adults,which usually presents as a painful rash with blisters.Vaccination is the most effective method to prevent shingles.However,there is not sufficient population-based epidemiological data in China to optimize the timing of zoster vaccination.What is added by this report?Clustering analyses of population-wide epidemiological data from the Healthcare Big Data Platform in Yichang,China showed that the average annual zoster incidence is the highest among people 55 years or older,at 10 cases per thousand persons per year,making this age group the optimal target population for vaccination.Incidence was lower but increased with age among younger adults,28–54 years old.What are the implications for public health practice?With limited vaccination resources,zoster vaccinations should be targeted at adults 55 years or older who are at the greatest risk for shingles.Research should be conducted to understand the risk of shingles among young and middle-aged adults and identify triggers of shingles:potentially leading to preventive measures.

Background Non-interventional large-scale research on real-world patients who had a stroke requires the use of multiple data sources ensuring access to longitudinal data from large populations with clinically-detailed information.We sought to establish a framework for longitudinal research on patients hospitalised with stroke by linking information-rich,deidentified inpatient data from the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program(PCNASP)to commercial and Medicare Advantage longitudinal claims data.Methods All stroke admissions in PCNASP between 2008 and 2015 were evaluated for linkage to longitudinal claims from a commercial insurer using an algorithm based on six available common data fields(patient age,gender,admission date,discharge date,discharge diagnosis and state)and a hospital match.We evaluated the linkage quality(via the percentage of unique records in the linked dataset)and the representativeness of the linked population.We also described medical history,stroke severity and patterns of medication use among the PCNASP-claims linked cohort.Results The linkage produced uniqueness equal to 99.1%.We identified 5644 linked and 98896 unlinked patients who had an ischaemic stroke hospitalisation in claims data.Linked patients were younger than unlinked(69.7 vs 72.5 years),but otherwise similar by medical history,prestroke medication use or lab values.Stroke severity was mild and most patients were discharged home.Prestroke and discharge use of antihypertensive and statins in the PCNASP were greater than their use as measured by filled prescriptions in claims.Conclusions High-quality linkage between the PCNASP and commercial claims data is feasible.This linkage identified differences between reported or recommended versus actual out-of-hospital medication utilisation,highlighting the importance of longitudinal data availability for research aimed to improve the care of patients who had a stroke.
