Diet plays an important role in metabolic syndrome(MetS), but evidence for association between overall dietary patterns and MetS is scarce and inconsistent. The aim at this study was to evaluate the relationship between different dietary patterns and MetS among the yi population of China. Methods This study recruited people aged more than 18 years from a cross-sectional study in the Liangshan region in Sichuan province. Dietary information was obtained by a semi-quantitative 52-item food frequency questionnaire. MetS was defined according to Guidelines on the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults(revised in 2016). Principal component factor analysis was used to define dietary patterns, and multivariate logistic regression model was used for estimate the odds ratios(OR) for metabolic syndrome across of factor score quartiles of each dietary pattern. Results A total of 1,906 subjects were evaluated in this study, among which 915 were men and 991 were women, 261(13.7%) was diagnosed with MetS. Principal component factor analysis identified 3 major dietary patterns,which explained 34.2% of total variance, based on the percentage of total daily intake from each food group: ‘plant-based food’, ‘animal food’ and ‘mixed food’. The ‘animal food’ dietary pattern was characterized by high intake of animal giblets, fish, eggs, fresh meat. The ‘plant-based food’ dietary pattern is based on intake of vegetables, mushroom and algae, legumes, oil. After controlling for potential confounders, the ‘animal food’ dietary pattern was associated with high risk of MetS compared with the lowest quartile(OR: 2.424,95%CI: 1.594-3.685), the ‘Plant-based food’ dietary pattern can reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome(OR: 0.619,95%CI: 0.401-0.955). The ‘mixed food’ dietary pattern was no associated with MetS and its components. Association of WNK1 exon 1 polymorphisms with essential hypertension in Hani and yi minorities of China

The association of polymorphisms in exon 1 of the WNK1 gene with essential hypertension in the minority groups of Hani and yi of China was investigated in the case-control *** sequence of 1257 bp containing the WNK1 gene exon 1 was determined in 1307 individuals（649 essential hypertension subjects and 658 controls）to identify SNPs in Hani and yi minority *** of eleven previously known SNPs （rs3168640,rs11885,rs11554421 and rs34880640）were *** SNP analysis indicated that SNPs rs11885 and rs11554421 were significantly associated with hypertension in both Hani and yi populations,and rs34880640 was significantly associated with hypertension in Hani but not in yi population,adjusted for *** analysis indicated that the haplotype H1 significantly decreased the risk of hypertension in both *** results suggested that WNK1 polymorphisms were involved in the predisposition of essential hypertension in Hani and yi populations and its effects showed a clear population *** finding supported the importance of population specificity in determining the genetic factors associated with diseases and thus disease treatment.
