The end-Permian mass extinction was one of the major global crises spanning the entire Early Triassic or *** of volcanos were one of the factors that delayed the biotic recovery after this *** eruptions can cause catastrophic effects on global environment,climate,and *** we investigate the tuff layers from Early-Middle Triassic boundary in the yangtze block and identify a supervolcano eruption *** zircon U-Pb ages of the section-Langdai,section-Daijiagou and section-Longmendong tuff samples are 247.1±1.9 Ma,247.6±2.0 Ma and 247.7±1.7 Ma,*** ages mark the Olenekian-Anisian *** zircon grains from the tuff layers have negativeεHf(t)(-15.3 to-0.8),two-stage Hf model(TDM2)ages(1.7 to 2.2 Ga)and display high-δ18O values(mostly>10‰).Clay minerals and quartz dominate the rock *** whole rock compositions show that the tuff layers were derived from magma of intermediate to felsic composition,which formed by the remelting of Paleoproterozoic materials of continental *** volcanic eruption site is located in the Jinshajiang-Ailaoshan-Song Ma suture zone in the southwestern margin of the yangtze block.A combination of the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean Basin and the collision of the Indochina block and South China contributed to the eruption,which was a supervolcano eruption under the active continental margin arc *** speculate that this supervolcano eruption might have contributed to the delayed biotic recovery after the end-Permian mass extinction.

Re-Os Geochronology of the Liuchapo Formation across the Ediacaran-Cambrian Boundary of the yangtze block(South China)

The Ediacaran-Cambrian(E-C) succession in South China records remarkable oceanic,biological and geochemical variations,but it was not well defined geochronologically,which hinders the interpretation of the spatio-temporal seawater chemical architecture during the time E-C *** study presents two Re-Os isochron ages of 520.2±6.1 and 561.7±8.5 Ma for the barite-rich black shales from the top Liuchapo and Doushantuo formations respectively in Tianzhu County,Guizhou *** combination with existing age data,the two new Re-Os isochron ages suggest that the Liuchapo Formation was deposited between 550 and 520 ***,like the polymetallic Ni-MoPGE layers of shelf margin(or platform) facies and V-rich horizons of transitional(or shelf slope) to deep-water facies,the barite deposits were likely formed due to differential *** timing offset likely resulted from differential elemental concentration related to certain local factors(i.e.,hydrothermal fluids,seawater redox and biological activity).The isochron-derived initial ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios of the top Liuchapo Formation(0.902 ± 0.048) and the Doushantuo Formation(0.740 ± 0.042) fall within the range of continental weathering flux(1.54) and oceanic crust(0.126),implying the involvement of marine hydrothermal ***,their difference of initial ^(187)Os/^(188)Os ratios may reflect variations of continental weathering intensity and uplift magnitude.

Recent geological survey has identified the Early Paleoproterozoic meta-mafic intrusions in the southwestern yangtze *** present geochronological,whole-rock geochemical and Nd isotopic data for these meta-mafic rocks to better address the tectonic evolution of the yangtze block during the Early Paleoproterozoic *** data show that the meta-mafic rocks have zircon ages of 2 395-2 316 *** have high TiO_2 contents of 1.40 wt.%-3.66 wt.% and Nb concentrations of 13.7 ppm-45.5 ppm,thus aregrouped as Nb-enriched mafic *** mafic rocks are characterized by tholeiitic compositions with enrichment of LREEs and LILEs,and can be divided into two *** 1 samples display E-MORB-like geochemical *** 2 samples have positive ENd(t) values of *** data indicate that all meta-mafic rocks were likely derived from a depleted asthenospheric *** modeling indicates lower degree of partial melting for Group 2 samples(3%-10%) relative to Group 1 samples(15%-20%).Taking into account contemporaneous post-collisional granitoids in southwestern yangtze block,we propose that these meta-mafic rocks were formed in a post-collisional extension *** meta-mafic rocks can be compared with those in Africa,South America and Europe,and might be linked with the Arrowsmith orogenic belt.

Late Mesoproterozoic igneous rocks in the SW yangtze block are important for understanding the role of it in reconstruction of the Rodinia *** the present study,we report new geochronological,geochemical,and Nd-Hf isotopic data for the Cuoke plagioclase amphibolites and granites in the SW yangtze *** results show that the plagioclase amphibolites and granites have similar late Mesoproterozoic zircon U-Pb ages of 1168-1162 Ma,constituting a bimodal igneous *** plagioclase amphibolites have high and variable TiO2 contents(1.15-4.30 wt.%)and Mg#(34-66)values,similar to the tholeiitic *** are characterized by enrichment in LREEs and LILEs,and have OIB-like affinities with positive Nb and Ta *** plagioclase amphibolites have positive whole-rockεNd(t)(+3.2 to+4.3)and zirconεHf(t)(+4.3 to+10.7)values,indicating that they were derived from an OIB-like asthenospheric mantle *** granites belong to the reduced peralkaline A-type series and have negativeεNd(t)value of-6.0 andεHf(t)values of-5.8 to-13.8,indicating a derivation from the partial melting of ancient mafic lower *** combination with the~1.05-1.02 Ga bimodal igneous assemblage in the SW yangtze block,we propose that the Cuoke 1168-1162 Ma igneous rocks were likely formed in a continental rift basin and argue against the existance of Grenvillian Orogen in the SW yangtze block during the late Mesoproterozoic.

Mantle plume or superplume activities have often been invoked as a cause for the breakup of the Neoproterozoic supercontinent ***,associated Neoproterozoic continental flood basalts,a requisite product of mantle plume activities,have rarely been *** sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe(SHRIMP) U-Pb zircon ages,geochemical,and Hf-Nd isotopic data are reported here for the Bikou Group basalts,the largest Neoproterozoic volcanic units in the northwestern yangtze block, South *** Bikou basalts are mainly tholeiitic in composition,and they can be stratigraphically subdivided into the lower and upper *** U-Pb zircon dating of intercalated rhyolites indicates that the lower and upper group basalts were erupted at 821±7 Ma and 811±12 Ma,respectively. The two basalt groups define two populations on most elemental and isotopic diagrams. The lower group basalts display strong subcontinental lithospheric mantle affinities and large variableεNd(t)) andεHf(t)) values that correlate negatively with Th/Ta and positively with *** upper group basalts,on the other hand,show ocean-island basalt(OIB) affinities and highly positiveεHf(t)) andεNd(t)) values. Numerical modeling indicates that the lower and upper group basalts were formed at melting temperatures of>1350℃and>1450℃and mantle potential temperatures of 1400- 1488℃and 1550±30℃,***, the upper group basalts were derived from an anomalously hot asthenosphere mantle,～160℃hotter than the contemporary ambient mid-ocean-ridge basalt(MORB) source *** results are at clear variance with the alternative tectonic model that the Bikou basalts were part of a continental magmatic *** work suggests that the Bikou basalts are likely the remnants of Neoproterozoic continental flood basalts that formed in response to a mantle plume starting ca.825 Ma during the breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia.

Three dimensional velocity model and its tectonic implications at China Seismic Experimental Site,eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau

The China Seismic Experimental Site(CSES)is located at the intersection of the Tibetan Plateau,South China block,and Indian Plate and has complex geological settings and intense crustal deformation,making it one of the most seismically active areas in Chinese mainland.A high-resolution,three-dimensional(3D)crust-mantle velocity structure is crucial for understanding seismotectonic environments,lithospheric deformation mechanisms,and deep dynamic *** first constructed a high-vertical-resolution 3D initial velocity model using the joint inversion of receiver functions and surface waves and then obtained a 3D P-and S-wave velocity model(CSES-VM1.0)with the highest lateral resolution of 0.25°for the CSES using double-difference *** to the limitations of the Sn observation data,the resolution of the S-wave velocity model in the lower crust and upper mantle was reduced,making it closer to the initial model provided by joint inversion.A comparison with explosive-source seismic data showed that the synthetic P-wave first-arrival travel times of the new model were closer to the observations than those of the previous velocity *** velocity cross-sections across the source areas of the 2022 Lushan MS6.1 and Ludian MS6.8 earthquakes reveal that the former earthquake occurred near a weak contact zone between the Tibetan Plateau and Sichuan Basin,and the rupture of the latter earthquake occurred in a granitic area,with the northern end blocked by rigid high-velocity bodies.A clear high-velocity anomaly zone is distributed along the western margin of the yangtze block,revealing the spatial distribution of Neoproterozoic intermediate-basic *** high-velocity zone significantly controls the morphology of fault zones and influences the rupture processes of major *** northeast-southwest and north-south trending high-velocity anomalies were found near Panzhihua,potentially related to Neoproterozoic and Middle-Late Permian intermediate

Organic matter pore characteristics of over-mature marine black shale: a comparison of organic fractions with different densities

Organic matter pores are considered to be the most important type of pore for preserving hydrocarbon gases in shale gas *** organic matter in each over-mature marine shale sample was separated into two organic fractions with densities of greater than and less than 1.25 g/cm^(3),and then their molecular compositions and pore characteristics were quantitatively evaluated using solid state 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and gas(N2 and CO_(2))adsorption analyses,*** results revealed that aromatic carbon is the dominant molecular composition of the over-mature organic matter in the Lower Cambrian Niutitang *** the over-mature stage,the organic fractions with densities of greater than and less than 1.25 g/cm^(3) have no significant differences in molecular *** organic fractions with densities of greater than and less than 1.25 g/cm^(3) do have significant differences in their organic pore *** contrast to the high density organic fraction,the low density fraction contained abundant micropores and lacked mesopores and *** organic pore structures of the different occurrence states of organic matter were significantly *** C/O of organic matter in different occurrence states are obviously different,which proves that the organic pore structure is closely related to both the occurrence state and density of the organic ***,these relationships are still unclear and require further study.

Characteristics and Sources of Organic Matter from the Early Cambrian Niutitang Formtion and Its Preservation Environment in Guizhou

The Early Cambrian Niutitang Formation on the yangtze block is a set of high-quality marine source ***,hydrocarbon-forming organisms of these organic-rich shales was poorly *** this paper,the results of palynofacies analysis and hydrocarbon-forming organism characteristics of the Niutitang Formation from the yangtze block are reported for the first time,and the sedimentary environment is discussed in combination with geochemical *** analysis show that the organic matter(OM)of the Niutitang Formation is mainly composed of amorphous organic matter(AOM),with a small amount of structural organic matter(STOM)and palynomorphs(PL).The results of CONISS(stratigraphically constrained incremental sum of squares)cluster analysis show that the PL can be divided into three zones in the ascending order:Leiosphaeridia-Micrhystridiumfungal zone,algal bloom zone and fungal development zone,corresponding to three stages:transgression,high-stand and regression,*** principal component analysis(PCA)shows that the main hydrocarbon-forming organisms include planktonic green microalgae or dinoflagellates that are related to Leiosphaeridia and *** analysis and geochemical data show that the Niutitang Formation was deposited under anoxic or dysoxic condition which was favorable to the enrichment of organic matter.

Paleo-to Mesoproterozoic Tectono-Magmatic Events Recorded in the Huwan Complex from the Dabie Orogen,Central China:Evidence from Petrology and U-Pb Geochronology

To better understand the Paleo-to Mesoproterozoic tectonic evolution of the Dabie Orogen in the northern margin of yangtze block,we present geochronological data for metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks in the Huwan complex.A total of 385 detrital zircon LA-ICP-MS analyses for metasedimentary rocks yielded three^(207)Pb/^(206)Pb age populations:1.50-1.80 Ga,1.81-1.87 Ga and 1.93-2.0 Ga,providing a maximum depositional timing of ca.1.50 Ga;while metafelsic volcanic gneisses yielded protolith U-Pb ages of 1893±54 *** peak ages are remarkably consistent with the tectonothermal events that occurred in the northern yangtze block,indicating the presence of Paleo-to Mesoproterozoic magmatism in the Dabie *** age range of 1.93-2.0 Ga correlates with the Paleoproterozoic collision;the age range of 1.81-1.87 Ga coincides with the period of the post-orogenic extension;and the age range of 1.50-1.80 Ga is interpreted to associate with an extensional *** cores with age of 1732-1965 Ma haveε_(Hf)(t)values ranging from-11.70 to-2.47,indicating that juvenile crust involved in their magma *** to the similar age spectra,we proposed that the nucleus of the Dabie Orogen was close to the yangtze block since the *** Huwan complex has an intimate affiliation to the yangtze block,and implies multiple orogenic *** was not only experienced the Paleo-Tethys ocean subduction and collision,but also recorded Paleo-to Mesoproterozoic tectono-magmatic events in the Dabie Orogen.
