Deciphering the evolution and complexity of wheat germplasm from a genomic perspective

Bread wheat provides an essential fraction of the daily calorific intake for *** to its huge and complex genome,progress in studying on the wheat genome is substantially trailed behind those of the other two major crops,rice and maize,for at least a *** rapid advances in genome assembling and reduced cost of high-throughput sequencing,emerging de novo genome assemblies of wheat and whole-genome sequencing data are leading to a paradigm shift in wheat ***,we review recent progress in dissecting the complex genome and germplasm evolution of wheat since the release of the first high-quality wheat *** insights have been gained in the evolution of wheat germplasm during domestication and modern breeding progress,genomic variations at multiple scales contributing to the diversity of wheat germplasm,and complex transcriptional and epigenetic regulations of functional genes in polyploid *** databases and bioinformatics tools meeting the urgent needs of wheat ge-nomics research are also *** ever-increasing omics data,along with advanced tools and well-structured databases,are expected to accelerate deciphering the germplasm and gene resources in wheat for future breeding advances.

wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) is the most important cereal crop in the *** Korea,breeding programs of wheat are focused on traits such as early maturing and high ***,the development of an early-maturing wheat is important to increase wheat production and food sufficiency in *** this study,six agricultural traits of 1,812 wheat accessions collected from around the world were evaluated to determine the best accessions to be used in wheat breeding *** the six agricultural traits,plant height and panicle length showed wide variation compared to other *** height and panicle length of 1,812 accessions ranged from 55.7 to 183.0 cm and 3.5 to 17.3 cm,*** date and maturity date showed the range of April 24 to May 24 and May 28 to June 27,*** shortest plant height and panicle length of wheat accessions were collected from Central America and West Africa,*** the 1,812 wheat accessions,those collected from West Africa showed the shortest heading date(April 24 ～ May5,average of April 29) and maturity(May 28 ～ June 8,average of May 30).On the other hand wheat accessions collected from Southern Europe and North America showed the longest heading date while those from East Asia and Eastern Europe exhibited the longest maturity *** results gathered in this study is envisioned to provide useful information in the development of new wheat varieties with desired traits.
