A method to measure the end-output coupling efficiencies between silicon wire waveguides(SWWs)and optical fibers is proposed and *** end-output coupling efficiency is calculated through four measured counting rates based on the correlated photon pair generation in the *** provides a way to investigate and optimize the coupling processes at the input and output end of the optical waveguides separately.

Lithium niobate(LiNbO_(3),LN)channel and ridge waveguides have been successfully fabricated by He ion implantation,which has energy of 500 keV and fluence of 1.5×10^(16)ions/cm^(2) and is combined with lithography and the precise diamond dicing *** refractive index profile of the annealed LN planar waveguide was *** propagation loss of the channel waveguide with a width of 10μm and that of the ridge waveguides with widths of 25μm and 15μm were investigated by the end-face coupling *** our work,the factors that affect the waveguide properties of channel and ridge waveguides were revealed.

Light-Induced Array of Three-Dimensional waveguides in Lithium Niobate by Employing Two-Beam Interference Field

We propose a novel approach to fabricate an array of three-dimensional waveguides in lithium niobate by employing illuminations of a pair of mutually coherent or incoherent two-beam interference patterns. Adjusting periods of the patterns and the angle between the grating vectors of the two patterns, we find that arrays of square, rectangular or parallelogrammic waveguides can be created. An array of rectangular waveguides is demonstrated in an iron doped lithium niobate by the double exposures of two-beam interference patterns with different orientations. The measured index distribution and the guiding test results show that the waveguide array is successfully fabricated.

A thermo-optical waveguide switch matrix is designed and fabricated on silicon-on-insulator wafer. Multi-mode interferometers are used as power splitters and combiners in a Mach--Zehnder structure. Inductively coupled plasma reactive ion etching is used to fabricate the waveguides. The rise and fall times of the switch matrix are 13μs and 7μs, respectively. Switch cells have an average switching power consumption of 340mW.

We seek to analyze a three-level cascade laser with a pair of nonlinearly coupled waveguides inside the cavity. Applying the pertinent master equation, we investigate the squeezing and entanglement properties intracavity produced by our system. It is shown that with the help of nonlinearly coupled waveguides highly squeezed as well as macroscopic entangled light with high intensity can be achieved.

Planar optical waveguides in single crystals of KNbOs were fabricated by MeV B and He ion *** depth profiles of radiation damage in these waveguides were compared and analyzed by high resolution transmission electron *** leaky waveguiding modes(TEo and TMo),which are due to implantation induced increase of rib and nc,were observed in 6.0 MeV B ion implantated waveguides with a dose of 1×10^(15)cm^(-2).

For guiding light on a chip,it has been pivotal to use materials and process flows that allow low absorption and *** on subwavelength gratings,here,we show that it is possible to create broadband,multimode waveguides with very low propagation losses despite using a strongly absorbing *** perform rigorous coupled-wave analysis and finite-difference time-domain simulations of integrated waveguides that consist of pairs of integrated high-index-contrast *** showcase this concept,we demonstrate guiding of visible light in the wavelength range of 550-650 nm with losses down to 6dB/cm using silicon gratings that have a material absorption of 13,000 dB/cm at this wavelength and are fabricated with standard silicon photonics *** approach allows us to overcome traditional limits of the various established photonics technology platforms with respect to their suitable spectral range and,furthermore,to mitigate situations where absorbing materials,such as highly doped semiconductors,cannot be avoided because of the need for electrical driving,for example,for amplifiers,lasers and modulators.

Thermally poled germanium-doped channel waveguides are presented. Multilayer waveguides containing a silicon oxynitride layer were used as charge trapper in this investigation on the effect of the internal field inside the waveguide. Compared to waveguides without the trapping layer, experimental results showed that the induced linear electro-optic (EO) coefficient increases about 20% after poling, suggesting strongly that the internal field is relatively enhanced, and showed it is a promising means for improving nonlinearity by poling in waveguides.

A new Er^3＋/Yb^3＋ co-doped phosphate glass has been prepared, which exhibits good chemical durability and spectral properties. Planar graded index waveguides have been fabricated in the glass by Ag^＋-Na^＋ ion exchange in a mixed melt of silver nitrate and potassium nitrate,Ion exchange is carried out by varying the process parameters such as temperature, diffusion time, and molten salt compositions. The diffusion parameters, diffusion coefficients, and activation energy are determined by the guidelines of fabricated wavegnides, which are determined by tile input prism coupling technique.
