Trimaran hydrodynamics have been an important research topic in recent *** have even been chosen for naval surface *** this case,investigation of a trimaran with different outrigger positions is important and necessary for better hydrodynamic *** paper focuses on the numerical investigation of trimaran *** trimaran model used in this study is a 1/80 scale high-speed displacement frigate-type concept developed by the Center for Innovation in Ship Design(CISD)at Naval Surface Warfare Center,Carderock Division(NSWCCD).The numerical simulations were conducted for different outrigger positions at low and moderate Froude numbers by using commercial CFD software solving URANS equations.A verification and validation study was carried out for the numerical method in one configuration and one ship *** existing experimental results for the trimaran resistance in the literature were used for *** different outrigger positions were analyzed and the form factor of each configuration was calculated by the Prohaska *** total resistance was decomposed to its components using the form *** interference factor was calculated for each configuration in terms of total resistance,residual resistance and wave ***,wave profiles using the longitudinal wave cuts in different locations were obtained both numerically and *** was concluded that the outrigger position had different effects on the interference,total resistance and wave profile at different Froude *** was also shown that the CFD results were in good agreement with the experimental data in all *** conclusion,this study presents the results of interference effects for different trimaran configurations in terms of wave resistance in addition to the total resistance and residual *** numerical method was validated not only with the total resistance test data but also the longitudinal wave profiles a

Homotopy-based analytical approximation to nonlinear short-crested waves in a fluid of finite depth

A nonlinear short-crested wave system, consisting of two progressive waves propagating at an oblique angle to each other in a fluid of finite depth, is investigated by means of an analytical approach named the homotopy analysis method （HAM）. Highly convergent series solutions are explicitly derived for the velocity potential and the surface wave elevation. We find that, at every value of water depth, there is little difference between the kinetic energy and the potential energy for nonlinear waves. The nonlinear short-crested waves with a larger angle of incidence always contain the more potential wave energy. With the aid of the HAM, we obtain the dispersion relation for nonlinear short-crested waves. Furthermore, it is shown that the wave elevation tends to be smoothened at the crest and be sharpened at the trough as the water depth increases, and the wave pressure crests and troughs become steeper with increasing incident wave steepness.

Optimum fifth order Stokes wave theory

This Paper improves the existing fifth order Stokes wave theory by using least Square method, and givesthe optimum result in the meaning of minimum error Squares to satisfy the free surface boundary conditions, and thewave profile can be adjusted according to the measured data. This paper also gives a simplified method for derivingthe parameters of the existing fifth order Stokes wave.

At present,studies on large-amplitude internal solitary waves mostly adopt strong stratification models,such as the twoand three-layer Miyata–Choi–Camassa(MCC)internal wave models,which omit the pycnocline or treat it as another fluid layer with a constant *** the pycnocline exists in real oceans and cannot be omitted sometimes,the computational error of a large-amplitude internal solitary wave within the pycnocline introduced by the strong stratification approximation is *** this study,the two-and three-layer MCC internal wave models are used to calculate the wave profile and wave speed of large-amplitude internal solitary *** comparing these results with the results provided by the Dubreil–Jacotin–Long(DJL)equation,which accurately describes large-amplitude internal solitary waves in a continuous density stratification,the computational errors of large-amplitude internal solitary waves at different pycnocline depths introduced by the strong stratification approximation are *** the pycnocline thicknesses are relatively large(accounting for 8%–10%of the total water depth),the error is much smaller under the three-layer approximation than under the two-layer approximation.
