Object Detection is the task of localization and classification of objects in a video or *** recent times,because of its widespread applications,it has obtained more *** the modern world,waste pollution is one significant environmental *** prominence of recycling is known very well for both ecological and economic reasons,and the industry needs higher *** object detection utilizing deep learning(DL)involves training a machine-learning method to classify and detect various types of waste in videos or *** technology is utilized for several purposes recycling and sorting waste,enhancing waste management and reducing environmental *** studies of automatic waste detection are difficult to compare because of the need for benchmarks and broadly accepted standards concerning the employed data ***,this study designs an Entropy-based Feature Fusion using Deep Learning forwasteObject Detection and Classification(EFFDL-WODC)*** presented EFFDL-WODC system inherits the concepts of feature fusion and DL techniques for the effectual recognition and classification of various kinds of waste *** the presented EFFDL-WODC system,two major procedures can be contained,such as waste object detection and waste object *** object detection,the EFFDL-WODC technique uses a YOLOv7 object detector with a fusionbased backbone *** addition,entropy feature fusion-based models such as VGG-16,SqueezeNet,and NASNetmodels are ***,the EFFDL-WODC technique uses a graph convolutional network(GCN)model performed for the classification of detected waste *** performance validation of the EFFDL-WODC approach was validated on the benchmark *** comprehensive comparative results demonstrated the improved performance of the EFFDL-WODC technique over recent approaches.

Institutional,Technical and Financial Arrangements in China’s Rural Pollution Abatement

This study tracks rural waste management systems in China since *** findings are threefold:(i)Rural waste management in China is underpinned by an institutional framework of environmentally-minded laws and regulations;(ii)substantial progress has been made in livestock pollution treatment,“toilet revolution”and domestic waste management as a result of extensive public communication and state-led enforcement;(iii)environmental responsibilities are shared among the government,polluters and *** particular,government spending has focused on areas of market failure such as waste reduction,antitoxic treatment and ***,our research uncovers that current waste management systems are unsustainable and must be remedied by:(i)setting aside sufficient funds for infrastructure maintenance;and(ii)increasing villagers’participation in project design and ***,existing public utilities such as sewage treatment facilities should be remodeled to increase coverage for rural households who live at scattered settlements.

The intensification of aquaculture has emerged as a viable alternative for increasing aquaculture production due to competition that arose from the use of natural resources,such as land and water,by other production and developmental ***,intensification demands increased inputs,such as fish and feed per unit culture area and,therefore,increased waste generation from the aquaculture production *** impact of waste products from aquaculture has increased public concern and threatens the sustainability of aquaculture *** need for increasing the production of aquaculture products cannot be overemphasized and,therefore,there is a need to develop culture systems that will increase fish production with efficient waste management in order to limit environmental degradation resulting from aquaculture wastes and ensure its *** paper reviewed various aspects of waste production from aquaculture,their sources,components,and methods of management,in different culture systems,primarily discussing waste production from feed,chemicals,and *** aimed to establish the sources of wastes,their contents,and potential harms to both the fish culture and the *** for managing wastes in different culture systems were made to ensure an improved and sustainable aquaculture production.

Conversion of fish processing wastewater into fish feed ingredients through submerged cultivation of Aspergillus oryzae

Fish processing towards production of fillet gives rise to wastewater streams that are ultimately directed to biogas production and/or wastewater ***,these wastewater streams are rich in minerals,fat,and proteins that can be converted to protein-rich feed ingredients through submerged cultivation of edible filamentous *** this study,the origin of wastewater stream,initial pH,cultivation time,and extent of washing during sieving,were found to influence the amount of recovered material from the wastewater streams and its protein content,following cultivation with Aspergillus *** culti-vation of the filamentous fungus in sludge,330 kg of material per ton of COD were recovered by sieving,corresponding to 121 kg protein per ton of COD,while through its cultivation in salt brine,210 kg of material were recovered per ton of COD,corresponding to 128 kg protein per ton of *** ranges of 12-43%,39-92%,and 32-66%for COD,total solids,and nitrogen,respectively,were obtained after *** growth and harvesting in the wastewater ***,the present study shows the versatility that the integration of fungal cultivation provides to fish processing industries,and should be complemented by economic,environmental,and feeding studies,in order to reveal the most promising valorization strategy.

Valorization of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate(PHB)-based bioplastic waste in anaerobic digesters of food waste for bioenergy generation:reactor performance,microbial community analysis,and bioplastic biodegradation

This study aims to investigate the significance and biodegradation pathways of PHB-based bioplastic in anaerobic digesters treating food waste,where the reactor performance of changed methane generation,bioplastic biodegradation efficiency,and bioinformatic analysis of functional microbes were *** results showed that PHB-based plastic film could be partially biodegraded in the food waste digester,and a bioaugmentation use of Alcaligenes Faecalis(AF)and Bacillus Megaterium(BM)was beneficial to largely accelerate the degradation process through a beneficial shift of both the functional bacterial and archaeal *** community analysis indicated that the major bacterial species belonged to genera Candidatus_Cloacimonas,Rikenellaceae,and Defluviitoga,while the dominant methanogenic archaeal species belonged to genera Methanomassiliicoccus,Methanosarcina,and *** biodegradation analysis suggested that the optimal fractions of AF and BM for PHB-based plastic degradation were 50% AF and 75% BM,respectively,which deserves further optimization and scale-up *** finding of this study would contribute to the combined management of PHB-based bioplastic with food waste for clean energy recovery and a greener environment.

The research on the extent and effects of microplastics pollution in the Global South is only getting *** is a South Asian country with one of the fastest growing economies in the world,however,such exponential economic growth has also increased the pollution threats to its natural and urban *** this paper,we reviewed the recent primary research on the assessment of the extent of microplastics pollution in *** online databases,we developed a compilation of emergingresearch articles that detected and quantified microplastics in different coastal,marine,and urban environments in *** of the studies focused on the coastal environment(e.g.,beach sediment)and marine fish,while limited data were available for the urban *** also discussed the relationship of the type of anthropogenic activities with the observed microplastic *** Cox's Bazar sea beach in south-east Bangladesh experienced microplastics pollution due to tourism activities,while fishing and other anthropogenic activities led to microplastics pollution in the Bay of *** microplastics larger than 1 mm were prevalent in the beach sediments,smaller microplastics with size below 0.5 mm were prevalent in marine fish ***,the differences m microplastic abundance,size,shape,color,and polymer type found were depended on the sampling sites and relevant anthropogenic *** is imperative to identify majorsources of microplastics pollution in both natural and urban environment,determine potential environmental and human health effects,and develop mitigating and prevention strategies for reducing microplastics pollution.

Affordable Water Filtration Technology for Disinfection By-Product Control for Small Rural Communities by Using Carbon Extracted from Local Fly Ash

The fly ash generated from local pulp and paper industries was transformed into activated carbon (AC) through physical activation process in a high temperature tube furnace in this study. Effects of two factors including activation temperature and activation time were investigated. Iodine number (IN), methylene blue value (MBV), and surface microstructure were all analyzed to assess the adsorption capacity of different carbon samples. The surface area of the carbon sample increased significantly from 486.44 m2/g to 847.26 m2/g before and after activation. The jar tests revealed that the use of 0.5 g (AC)/L (water) has the highest adsorption effectiveness. Meanwhile, the column filtration experiment indicated more than 60% of the organic matter can be removed by the carbon barrier within 2 hours filtration. The follow-up chlorination experiment illustrated that the formation of trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs) could be considerably prevented after filtration. Above all, the cost-effective carbon filtration technology developed in this study can potentially be applied as a pre-treatment technology for intake source waters for local communities.

Elevating public awareness of waste management at the household level is a cost effective and a win-win social, economic and environmental approach on the table of policymaking. Modern and effective waste management bring about broader economic efficiency and social equity, mitigate consumerism, thus, promoting the conservation of natural resources. In this article, a survey study was conducted among the citizens of Wrocław city, Poland. The city is dynamic, touristic, and industrial. Through random sampling, 160 respondents filled in the questionnaire. The results revealed that the participants appeared aware of the benefits of waste management (WM);however the current WM systems and infrastructures are not very satisfying. The participants identified several shortcomings in the current WM systems such as the lack of sufficient colored bins for glass recycling, overfilled bins and heavy lids, and irregular waste collection system. The study proposes a public-oriented outreach campaign targeting waste separation and less-waste behaviors as economically and environmentally beneficial, accompanied by continuous development of WM regulations and infrastructures and linked it to waste-to-energy systems and technologies to assist in achieving the long-term energy and emissions-reduction targets.

Environmental Challenges Associated with Poorly Planned Industries: A Case of Somaliland

Somaliland’s economy predominantly relies on livestock. This sector has been experiencing various environmental, economic and marketing related challenges. As a result, the industry sector which has long been underinvested, is now recognized by the public for its importance on the country’s economic growth. The industrialization process in Somaliland has been rising, and various industries that produce diverse goods and services are established. The industry sector has been impacting on environment and ecological integrity in many areas resulting in land, water, and air pollutions. The major pollutants released by industries, and observed in this study include organic wastes, wastewater, toxic substance, plastic, debris and many more. The lack of industrial zones and poor regulatory systems are important factors to growing environmental challenges associated with industrial operation. The study found that the capacity of the industries in managing waste is very limited in Somaliland due to a number of social, economic and political factors prevalent in the industry sector, and in the country at large. These factors include poor recycling and re-use technology, limited human resource/expertise relating to waste management, poor availability of adequate waste collection and disposal facilities, and most importantly economic limitations in investing in clean technology.

Pollution represents an important threat to human health. waste pollution with its adverse health risks, mainly cancer incidences, is one of the main issues present in Lebanon. Random disposal of wastes is instilling a complex and challenging situation that is affecting the entire population. Here, a comprehensive study is presented along with collected data addressing the correlation between long-term exposure to the different forms of pollution and the chances of being affected with cancer. Lebanon, a country currently facing an extensive garbage crisis, is undergoing alarming surges in pollution rates. Inevitably, these environmental factors become chief elements in influencing disease statistics. It is therefore of urgent importance to seek all solutions possible while raising awareness in order to reduce life threatening risks.
