The waiting spectra of the sets consisting of pairs of sequences with prescribed quantitative waiting time indicators are determined. More precisely,let R(x,y) and R(x,y) be the lower and upper quantitative waiting time indicators of y by x respectively in the symbolic space Σm(integer m 2) and define the level sets Sα,β={(x,y)∈Σ2m:R(x,y)=α,R(x,y)=β},where 0αβ∞,it is shown that the sets Sα,βare all of Hausdorff dimension ***,some further extensions of this result are also made.

This paper considers an M/G/1 queue with Poisson rate lambda > 0 and service time distribution G(t) which is supposed to have finite mean 1/mu. The following questions are first studied: (a) The closed bounds of the probability that waiting time is more than a fixed value; (b)The total busy time of the server, which including the distribution, probability that are more than a fixed value during a given time interval (0, t], and the expected value. Some new and important results are obtained by theories of the classes of life distributions and renewal process.

Background As an important determinant of patient satisfaction, waiting time, has gained increasing attention in the field of health care services. The present study aimed to illustrate the distribution characteristics of waiting time in a community hospital and explore the impact of potential measures to reduce outpatient waiting time based on a computer simulation approach. Methods Dudng a one-month study period in 2006, a cross-sectional study was conducted in a community hospital located in Shanghai, China. Baseline data of outpatient waiting time were calculated according to the records of registration time and payment time. A simulation technique was adopted to investigate the impact of perspective reform methods on reducing waiting time. Results Data from a total of 10 092 patients and 26 816 medical consultations were collected in the study and 19 947 medical consultations were included. The average of the total visit time for outpatients in this hospital was 43.6 minutes in the morning, 19.1 minutes in the afternoon, and 34.3 minutes for the whole day studied period. The simulation results suggested that waiting time for outpatients could be greatly reduced through the introduction of appointment system and flexible demand-orientated doctor scheduling according to the numbers of patients waiting at different time of the workday. Conclusion Adoption of an appointment system and flexible management of doctor scheduling may be effective way to achieve decreased waiting time.

Optimal Waiting Time at Transfer Stations

waiting times and stopping probabilities for patterns in Markov chains

＜正＞ This paper addresses the problem of public transit for a given network of buses. It attempts to minimize passengers waiting time at the transfer nodes of the network taking into account the satisfaction and convenience of the system’ s users. It treats the scheduler’ s problem in a mathematical way and enables transit schedulers to set restrictions on the headways for each route, to introduce different frequencies for every route, and to generate optimal timetable. In this paper a mathematical model, which determines departure time by minimizing the total waiting time among passengers currently at the stops, was formulated as a linear programming problem. The basic heuristic algorithm was used and one example taken from a part of Chinese bus company was described. The result shows an important theoretical significance and practical value to public transit problem.

Suppose that C is a finite collection of patterns. Observe a Markov chain until one of the patterns in C occurs as a run. This time is denoted by τ. In this paper, we aim to give an easy way to calculate the mean waiting time E(τ) and the stopping probabilities P(τ = τA)with A ∈ C, where τA is the waiting time until the pattern A appears as a run.

Vehicular ad-hoc network(VANET) has distinctive environments such as highly dynamic topology, frequently disconnected network, hard delay constraints for safety-related application, and various communications environments based on highway or urban traffic scenarios. Therefore, development of a suitable routing protocol that considers these characteristics of VANET should be needed. In this paper we propose the improved distance-based VANET routing protocol in urban traffic environments. We apply approaches to multi-hop broadcast scheme for reliable packet dissemination in the intersection and stable route decision scheme based on the adaptive waiting time. The performance is evaluated under simulation which is implemented with the Manhattan urban traffic model. The results show the improved performance as compared with other protocols.

CPU scheduling is the basic task within any time-shared operating *** of the main goals of the researchers interested in CPU scheduling is minimizing time *** between CPU scheduling algorithms is subject to some scheduling criteria(e.g.,turnaround time,waiting time and number of context switches(NCS)).Scheduling policy is divided into preemptive and *** Robin(RR)algorithm is the most common preemptive scheduling algorithm used in the time-shared operating *** this paper,the authors proposed a modified version of the RR algorithm,called dynamic time slice(DTS),to combine the advantageous of the low scheduling overhead of the RR and favor short process for the sake of minimizing time *** process has a weight proportional to the weights of all *** process’s weight determines its time slice within the current *** authors benefit from the clustering technique in grouping the processes that are similar in their attributes(e.g.,CPU service time,weight,allowed time slice(ATS),proportional burst time(PBT)and NCS).Each process in a cluster is assigned the average of the processes’time slices in this cluster.A comparative study of six popular scheduling algorithms and the proposed approach on nine groups of processes vary in their attributes was performed and the evaluation was measured in terms of waiting and turnaround times,and *** experiments showed that the proposed algorithm gives better results.

The Science Policy Briefing on male reproductive health pubfished by the authoritative European Science Foundation （ESF） in 2010 echoes the views expressed in the famous paper by *** et al, suggesting that mean sperm counts decreased by 50%. The authors are convinced that the male reproductive system in industrialized countries is under attack from envi- ronmental chemicals. This may have farreaching consequences for the reproductive capacity of future generations. Their arguments, however, contain some misconceptions about declining sperm quality and fertifity. Although there is reason for concern about the effect of environmental pollution, the authors＇ pessimism is not justified.
