Fabrication and characterization of ultrafine wc-10CoCrNiCuFe cemented carbides

A new ultra-fine tungsten carbide(wc)cemented carbide was fabricated by spark plasma sintering(SPS),in which the CoCrNiCuFe high entropy alloy(HEA)was used as the binder and was mixed with wc carbide through the mechanical ball milling *** microstructure of wc-10 wt%HEA compos-ites was investigated through scanning electron microscopy(SEM),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and differential scanning calorimetry-thermogravimetric analysis(DSC-TG).The results show that the interface characteristics of the wc/HEA system include the FCC(111)//HCP(101^(-)1)interface with stable ionic bonds and the interface that reacts due to the formation of the(Fe,Co)_(3)W_(3)C *** mechanical properties of wc-10 wt%HEA composites were investigated through the Vickers hardness test,friction and wear tests,and compression *** wc-10 wt%HEA composites exhibit good fracture toughness and hardness of 10.98 MPa m^(1/2)and 1988.60 HV30,*** compressive strength at room temperature and 800℃is up to 3307 and 1747 MPa,*** composites exhibited excellent properties attributed to the good wettability of HEA on wc grains and the consequent strengthening effect on the wc/wc interfaces.

Surface Features and Friction Characteristics of Porous and Coarse-grain wc-3%Co

The main components of cemented carbides include tungsten carbide(wc) and cobalt(Co),of which their melting point and density vary *** is not suitable for preparing porous cemented carbides according to the preparation process of the ordinary porous *** the paper,the porous cemented carbide was prepared with coarse-grain and low-cobalt alloy by modifying its sintering *** surface features were observed through the metallurgical microscope,scanning electron microscope and three-dimensional profile *** friction characteristics of wc/GCr15 sliding couplings under the dry condition were evaluated with the adoption of a ball-on-disk *** experimental results show that the porosity of porous cemented carbides varies from 7.5%to 9.0%.Their density and hardness decrease *** size and depth of pits on their surfaces of porous cemented carbides are not quite uniform,namely,the depth ranges from several microns to 32 urn,which can be used to store the *** friction coefficient of porous cemented carbides is lower than the dense ones,and the wear resistance accordingly *** can be indicated that porous structure may have exerted an important influence on the dry friction properties of cemented carbides.
