The growth of well-aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays using a heat chemical vapor deposition system on silicon substrates is reported. The growth properties of CNT arrays are studied as a function of synthesis conditions. It is found that 750°C and 10 nm Fe film are suitable conditions for the growth of well-aligned CNT arrays. CNT arrays with a uniform diameter, thick tube wall and firm cohesion to the Si substrate can be grown for C2H2 concentration of 27%. Based on the experiment, the processes of improving the alignment of CNT arrays and cohesion between CNT arrays and Si substrates are discussed.

Some approximate formulas , based on the internal- wave directional spectral model established by Schott and Willebrand (1973), of vertically standing wavemode eigenfunctions and a dispersion relation of internal waves in shallow seas are presented . An optimization method to estimate internal wave directional spectra is described and the confidence interval expression of the estimates is estab -lished .The GM spectral model of oceanic internal waves cannot be used in shallow seas (01 bers, 1983). Internal waves in shallow seas have two origins: oceanic (those generated in and propagating from the deep sea and ocean) and local (Phillips, 1977). As both reveal obvious propagation orientations, it is important to investigate the directional properties of the internal wave field . Though cross- correlation function or cross-spectrum analyses can reveal the directional properties in some degree (Fang et al., 1984, and Fang, 1987), internal-wave directional spectrum analysis can further estimate the main

The crustal and upper mantle azimuthal anisotropy of the Tibetan Plateau and adjacent areas was studied by Rayleigh wave tomography. We collected sufficient broadband digital seismograms trav-ersing the Tibetan Plateau and adjacent areas from available stations, including especially some data from the temporary stations newly deployed in Yunnan, eastern Tibet, and western Sichuan. They made an adequate path coverage in most regions to achieve a reasonable resolution for the inversion. The model resolution tests show that the anisotropic features of scope greater than 400 km and strength greater than 2% are reliable. The azimuthal anisotropy pattern inside the Tibetan Plateau was similar to the characteristic of tectonic partition. The crustal anisotropy strength is greater than 2% in most re-gions of East Tibet, and the anisotropy shows clockwise rotation surrounding the eastern Himalayan syntaxis. vertically, the anisotropy direction indicates a coherent pattern within the upper crust, lower crust, and lithosphere mantle of the Tibetan Plateau, which also is consistent with GPS velocity field and SKS fast polarization directions. The result supports that the crust-mantle deformation beneath the Tibetan Plateau is vertically coherent. The anisotropy strength of crust and lithospheric upper mantle in Yunnan outside the Tibetan Plateau is lower than 2%, so SKS splitting from core-mantle boundary to station should largely be attributed to the anisotropy of asthenosphere.

Wolbachia can profoundly influence the survival, reproduction, and defenses of insect hosts. These interactions could potentially be harnessed for managing pests or insecttransmitted diseases. Diaphorina citri Kuwayama is a phloem-feeding pest capable of transmitting the putative causal agent of citrus greening, Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas). Like many insects, D. citri is also infected with Wolbachia (wDi). Recent studies indicate that the relative abundance of wDi could be associated with the abundance of CLas, and that wDi may contribute to regulating expression of phage lytic cycle genes in CLas, suggesting the need for better understanding of wDi biology in general. This study investigated the genetic diversity of wDi among D. citri in populations spanning eleven countries and two U.S. territories. Six Wolbachia genes, wsp, ***, gatB, and hep A, were sequenced and compared across samples. Two prevalent wDi strains were identified across the samples, and screening of clone libraries revealed possible coinfection of wDi strains in specific populations. D. citri mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (mtCOI) were more divergent between D. citri populations that were infected with different wDi strains or had different infection statuses (single infection vs. coinfection). While we could not eliminate the possibility that maternal transmission may contribute to such patterns, it is also possible that wDi may induce cytoplasmic incompatibility in their host. These fin dings should contribute to the understanding of wDi population ecology, which may facilitate manipulation of this endosymbiont for management of citrus greening disease worldwide.

Beta spiral technique can be used to determine the three dimensional velocity field , usually in the open ocean , as functions of depth at a single location. This work is aimed at applying the method to the lower layers in the western boundary area of the Pacific at two locations covered by 5 CTD stations each , and then using the results to study the vertical structure of the western boundary current in the Pacific .

Treatment of diarrhea in children by shallow needling and by drugs was studied in 3 separategroups for *** Group Ⅰ,the lateral line Ⅱ of the forehead was taken,***,middle and lower points of the line staring from Toulinqi(UB 15)vertically down-wards to the place 1 cm below the hairline were *** Group Ⅱ,shallow needling wasdone on body acupoints,the main points selected being Qihai(Ren 6),Shuifen(Ren 9),bi-lateral Tianshu(St 25),and bilateral Zusanli(St 36);the adjuvant acupoints were Taibai(Sp 3)and Gongsun(Sp 4).The depth of shallow needling was merely puncturing the *** Group Ⅲ the drugs used were Liteling,Berberine,Gentamycin,Ampicillin,and *** results of treatment in Group Ⅰ and Ⅱ differed insignificantly,while both weresignificantly superior to drugs in Group Ⅲ.Experimental studies also showed that shallowneedling enhanced the humoral and cellular immunity and promoted the intestinal peristalticfunction.

The Vedic multiplication algorithm is a very fast way of oral calculation. However, the basis of the algorithm is not available so far. The present paper demystifies the general Vedic algorithm for multiplication by establishment of foundation of the Vedic algorithm of product finding through end results of conventional multiplication. This novel approach, i.e., finding algorithm from the end results of conventional calculations may be useful in devising algorithms similar to Vedic in cases of other calculations. Though the availability of cheap calculators made the Vedic Method obsolete, the present trend resurrected Vedic algorithms by their use in the design of computer processors for enhancing speed and performance.
