Background Rotavirus is the primary cause of gastroenteritis in children worldwide and is a leading cause of gastroenteritis in children,with a significant burden.Rotavirus vaccine became available in Ireland in 2016.This study aimed to investigate hospital admissions and seasonal characteristics of rotavirus gastroenteritis in a pre-and post-vaccination period in a single district general hospital.Methods In the post-vaccination year,from November 18th 2016 to November 18th 2017,all children up to 3 years of age who presented to Mayo University Hospital with vomiting and diarrhea,were recruited and had their stool tested for rotavirus.Retrospective analysis of hospital data of children of the same age during pre-vaccination years(2014–2016)were used for comparison.Results Compared with the pre-vaccination years(2014–2016),the median percentages of reduction of rotavirus positive stool requests and hospital admissions were high,48.5%and 73%,respectively.In the post-vaccination year,the median percentage of reduction of emergency department presentation(stool requests)with gastroenteritis was 9%.No delay in the onset of RV season or reduction of the peak of RV infection was noted in the post-vaccination year.The duration of rotavirus season in 2016/2017 was short.Conclusions Compared with 3 pre-vaccination years,the total number of gastroenteritis presentations,gastroenteritis hospital admissions,and rotavirus positive gastroenteritis cases were all reduced,and the duration of the rotavirus season was shorter.

Although the development of covID-19 vaccines has been a remarkable success,the heterogeneous individual antibody generation and decline over time are unknown and still hard to predict.In this study,blood samples were collected from 163 participants who next received two doses of an inactivated COvVID-19 vaccine(CoronaVac)at a 28-day interval.Using TMT-based proteomics,we identified 1,715 serum and 7,342 peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)proteins.We proposed two sets of potential biomarkers(seven from serum,five from PBMCs)at baseline using machine learning,and predicted the individual seropositivity 57 days after vaccination(AUC=0.87).Based on the four PBMC's potential biomarkers,we predicted the antibody persistence until 180 days after vaccination(AUC=0.79).Our data highlighted characteristic hematological host responses,including altered lymphocyte migration regulation,neutrophil degranulation,and humoral immune response.This study proposed potential blood-derived protein biomarkers before vaccination for predicting heterogeneous antibody generation and decline after coVID-19 vaccination,shedding light on immunization mechanisms and individual booster shot planning.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccines are currently approved or authorized to prevent serious outcomes,such as severe disease,hospitalization,and death.The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is recommended for everyone aged five and older in the United States(US)to prevent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection[1,2].However,it is unclear whether children with a history of multisystem,inflammatory syndrome in children(MIS-C)may be at risk for a MIS-like response following COVID-19 vaccination or SARS-CoV-2 reinfection[2].Therefore,physicians remain uncertain about vaccinating children with a history of MIS-C.This study investigates the occurrence of severe,systemic side effects of COVID-19 vaccines and the recurrence of the MIS-C symptoms in children with a history of MIS-C to overcome vaccine hesitancy.

In the last two years,a new seve re acute res piratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV)infection has spread worldwide leading to the death of millions.Va ccination represents the key factor in the global strategy against this pandemic,but it also poses several problems,especially for vulnerable people such as patients with multiple scle rosis.In this review,we have briefly summarized the main findings of the safety,efficacy,and acceptability of Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccination fo r multiple sclerosis patients.Although the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccines has progressively increased in the last year,a small but significant part of patients with multiple sclerosis still has relevant concerns about vaccination that make them hesitant about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.Overall,available data suggest that the COVID-19 vaccination is safe and effective in multiple scle rosis patients,even though some pharmacological treatments such as anti-CD20 therapies or sphingosine I-phosphate receptor modulato rs can reduce the immune response to vaccination.Accordingly,COVID-19 vaccination should be strongly recommended for people with multiple scle rosis and,in patients treated with anti-CD20 therapies and sphingosine I-phosphate receptor modulato rs,and clinicians should evaluate the appropriate timing for vaccine administration.Further studies are necessary to understand the role of cellular immunity in COVID-19 vaccination and the possible usefulness of booster jabs.On the other hand,it is mandatory to learn more about the reasons why people refuse vaccination.This would help to design a more effective communication campaign aimed at increasing vaccination coverage among vulnerable people.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has been spreading globally since its initial outbreak in 2019.Substantial evidence has revealed that children who are receiving antitumor therapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT)present higher rates of severe illness and mortality[1].It is important to identify infected children with hematology and oncology diseases who have the tendency to develop worse outcomes of coronal virus disease 2019(COVID-19)during the early stage of COVID-19.Recent studies have demonstrated that vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in adults can reduce the likelihood of infection and reduce the severity and mortality of COVID-19 when SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection occurs[2,3,4].However,the effectiveness of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in children with hematology and oncology diseases is poorly defined due to the lack of relevant data,which might lead to vaccine hesitancy[5,6].

vaccination is crucial in controlling the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)that triggered the pandemic,but herd immunity can only work with high vaccination coverage in the population.This study aims to measure the COVID-19 knowledge level and determine the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccination intention among university students in Malaysia.A cross-sectional online survey was carried out with 1,274 Malaysian university students in July 2021.Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to examine the relationships between the study variables.Results showed that the majority of university students had an acceptable level of knowledge of COVID-19.The knowledge,risk perception of COVID-19,social norms,and perceived benefit of COVID-19 vaccination were positively associated with vaccination intention.However,perceived trust in information sources of COVID-19 vaccination and the government's response to COVID-19 did not affect the university students’desire to receive the vaccination.These findings are essential for health policymakers and healthcare providers to implement evidence-based interventions to increase COVID-19 vaccination uptake among university students.

Analysis of SIRVI model with time dependent coefficients and the effect of vaccination on the transmission rate and COVID-19 epidemic waves

COVID-19 epidemic models with constant transmission rate cannot capture the patterns of the infection data in the presence of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions during a pandemic.Because of this,a new modification of SIR model that contain the vaccination compartment with time dependent coefficients and weak/lossimmunity is explored.Literature review confirms that the effect of vaccination on the time dependent transmission rate is still an open problem.This study answers this open problem.In this study,we first prove the well-posedness and investigate the model dynamics to show their continuous dependence on the model parameters.We then provide an algorithm to derive the time-dependent transmission function for the epidemiologic model and the data of the infected cases.The derived coupled nonlinear differential equations show the effect of vaccination on the transmission rate.Unlike previous studies,we first filter the published data and solve the nonlinear coupled differential equations using the finite difference technique,where the coefficient of the coupled nonlinear differential equations is a function of given data.We then show that time-dependent transmission function can be represented by linear combinations of Gaussian radial base function.We then validate the prediction of our models using numerical simulations,where we used the published data of COVID-19 confirmed cases by the Ministries of Health in Saudi Arabia and Poland.Finally,the numerical solutions of a SIRVI model with time dependent transmission rate show that the waves for currently active cases are in good agreement with the data of Saudi Arabia and Poland.

BACKGROUND Delayed inflammatory reactions(DIRs)in alloplast rhinoplasty are a rare complication that may occur several months to years after surgery.The exact causes and mechanisms are unclear,but several triggering factors,including infections,trauma,dental procedures,and vaccination,have been reported.CASE SUMMARY A 39-year-old male patient who had undergone augmentation rhinoplasty 8 years ago had DIRs after the administration of the first dose of the mRNA Pfizer coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccine.He suddenly had tender,erythematous swelling on his face 6 d after vaccination.As there was no improvement in the patient’s condition after the conservative treatment,surgical removal of an alloplastic nasal implant was performed.Immediately after the surgery,the DIRs and accompanying symptoms ameliorated rapidly.A histological study conducted during surgery was fibrosis and small fragments of the hyaline cartilage.CONCLUSION The correlation between DIRs and COVID-19 vaccination has not been reported yet and the exact mechanism is unclear.Because the uncontrolled inflammatory reactions on the nose leave serious sequelae,surgeons should be conscious of the correlation between COVID-19 vaccines and DIRs associated with nasal alloplastic implants.And further histological or microbiological studies should be performed to determine the cause of DIRs.

Background:Several countries used varied degrees of social isolation measures in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.In 2021,the lockdown in Thailand began on July 20 and lasted for the following six weeks.The lockdown has extremely detrimental effects on the economy and society,even though it may reduce the number of COVID-19 instances.Our goals are to assess the impact of the lockdown policy,the commencement time of lockdown,and the vaccination rate on the number of COVID-19 cases in Thailand in 2021.Methods:We modeled the dynamics of COVID-19 in Thailand throughout 2021 using the SEIR model.The Google Mobility Index,vaccine distribution rate,and lockdown were added to the model.The Google Mobility Index represents the movement of individuals during a pandemic and shows how people react to lockdown.The model also examines the effect of vaccination rate on the incidence of COVID-19.Results:The modeling approach demonstrates that a 6-week lockdown decreases the incidence number of COVID-19 by approximately 15.49e18.17%,depending on the timing of the lockdown compared to a non-lockdown scenario.An increasing vaccination rate potentially reduce the incidence number of COVID-19 by 5.12e18.35%without launching a lockdown.Conclusion:Lockdowns can be an effective method to slow down the spread of COVID-19 when the vaccination program is not fully functional.When the vaccines are easily accessible on a large scale,the lockdown may terminated.

Background:Healthcare workers(HCWs)were the priority group for influenza vaccination,in China during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 influenza seasons.However,vaccination rates in HCWs have always been low.This study investigated influenza vaccination status among Chinese HCWs and analyzed the factors driving vaccination.Methods:We provided electronic questionnaires to HCWs from January 27,2022 to February 21,2022,using the WeChat platform"Breath Circles".HCWs who received the link could also forward it to their colleagues.Binary logistic regression models were used to analyze vaccination-associated factors among HCWs.Results:Among the 1697 HCWs surveyed,vaccination coverage was 43.7%(741/1697)during the 2020/2021 influenza season,and 35.4%(600/1697)during the 2021/2022 influenza season,as of February 21,2022.Additionally,22.7%(385/1697)and 22.1%(358/1697)of HCWs reported that their workplaces implemented a free vaccination policy for all employees during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 influenza seasons.HCWs who were required to be vaccinated according to hospital regulations,and whose hospitals implemented the free influenza vaccine policy were more likely to be vaccinated(2020/2021 and 2021/2022;Pvaccination and willingness to get vaccinated,such as active learning about vaccines(2020/2021,Pvaccination for all HCWs(2020/2021 and 2021/2022;Pvaccination policy and workplace required vaccination are effective in improving influenza vaccination coverage among HCWs.Influenza vaccination coverage of Chinese HCWs remained low and showed a downward trend after the COVID-19 outbreak.Further effective measures,such as advocacy campaigns,free vaccine policies,and on-site vaccination could be implemented to improve influenza vaccination coverage.
