The ability of Voice User Interface(VUI)to understand how users will express their commands naturally and intuitively is an essential component of user experience,especially when the user is interacting with the VUI for the first time.Designing an automated method for testing the usability of VUI is a challenge for two reasons.First,there are many different ways for a user to express the same intention,e.g.“play some music”,“put some music on”,etc.,that is difficult to determine in advance.Second,many VUI apps today typically rely on the platform service provider(e.g.Amazon,Google,etc.)to perform many of the speech recognition and natural language processing tasks,and these services are provided as a blackbox.Consequently,it is difficult for the app developer to obtain information about errors and user feedback.In this paper,we propose a framework,VORI,to systematically evaluate the interactability of VUI,as well as a new metric for quantifying the interactability of a VUI.We use VORI to analyze 127 applications on Alexa by sending over 82,931 commands.Our analysis results highlight that 41.7%of apps only accept strict input that has to exactly match the developer’s predefined sample commands with an interactability score of 20%or less.This suggests developers should consider a better interactability strategy in the design of VUIs,and more research is needed to further explore the design space to improve the interactability.

The public has access to a range of mobile applications(apps)for disasters.However,there has been limited academic research conducted on disaster apps and how the public perceives their usability.This study explores end-users'perceptions of the usability of disaster apps.It proposes a conceptual framework based on insights gathered from thematically analyzing online reviews.The study identifies new usability concerns particular to disaster apps'use:(1)content relevance depends on the app's purpose and the proximate significance of the information to the hazard event's time and location;(2)app dependability affects users'perceptions of usability due to the lifesafety association of disaster apps;(3)users perceive advertisements to contribute to their cognitive load;(4)users expect apps to work efficiently without unnecessary consumption of critical phone resources;(5)appropriate audio interface can improve usability,as sounds can boost an app's alerting aspect;and,finally(6)in-app browsing may potentially enhance users'impression of the structure of a disaster app.As a result,this study argues for focussed research and development on public-facing disaster apps.Future research should consider the conceptual framework and concerns presented in this study when building design guidelines and theories for disaster apps.

Human-Computer Interaction(HCI)is a sub-area within computer science focused on the study of the communication between people(users)and computers and the evaluation,implementation,and design of user interfaces for computer systems.HCI has accomplished effective incorporation of the human factors and software engineering of computing systems through the methods and concepts of cognitive science.usability is an aspect of HCI dedicated to guar-anteeing that human–computer communication is,amongst other things,efficient,effective,and sustaining for the user.Simultaneously,Human activity recognition(HAR)aim is to identify actions from a sequence of observations on the activities of subjects and the environmental conditions.The vision-based HAR study is the basis of several applications involving health care,HCI,and video surveillance.This article develops a Fire Hawk Optimizer with Deep Learning Enabled Activ-ity Recognition(FHODL-AR)on HCI driven usability.In the presented FHODL-AR technique,the input images are investigated for the identification of different human activities.For feature extraction,a modified SqueezeNet model is intro-duced by the inclusion of few bypass connections to the SqueezeNet among Fire modules.Besides,the FHO algorithm is utilized as a hyperparameter optimization algorithm,which in turn boosts the classification performance.To detect and cate-gorize different kinds of activities,probabilistic neural network(PNN)classifier is applied.The experimental validation of the FHODL-AR technique is tested using benchmark datasets,and the outcomes reported the improvements of the FHODL-AR technique over other recent approaches.

Objective: To explore the usability and feasibility of a downloadable application (APP) compared to paper handouts (CONTROL) in guiding 30 days of PT-prescribed home exercise after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and to compare functional outcomes at 30 days postoperatively between APP and CONTROL. Design: Randomized controlled usability and feasibility study. Setting: Rehabilitation laboratories at two regional medical centers. Participants: Individuals with knee osteoarthritis undergoing unilateral TKA (APP group: N = 26;mean age, 67.0 ± 8.2 y;CONTROL group: N = 31;mean age, 64.7 ± 7.7 y). Interventions: This study assessed the user experience of a downloadable app to guide 30 days of home exercises and instruction after TKA and compared exploratory outcomes to a group using paper handouts. Main Outcome Measures: The System usability Scale (SUS) score was used to assess patient usability experience. Raw SUS scores were dichotomized (≥72% or usability against a 75% a priori criterion for mean APP group score. Feasibility for app use was similarly evaluated in the APP group only through a priori criteria applied to computing device ownership and study use, to the absence of technology-based barriers to participation, and to completion of app-based testing. Exploratory measures compared change from baseline to 30 days for functional and patient-reported outcomes between APP and CONTROL. Results: The APP group’s mean SUS score of 79.2% at 30 days exceeded the 75% threshold for good usability. The app met the predetermined a priori feasibility criteria for absence of technology-based barriers to participation (75% of participants) and completion of app-based testing (91.3% of participants). Personal computing devices were used by 71.4% of APP participants, which was below the 75% a priori feasibility criterion. This paper mainly introduces the development and implementation of the user centered data mining service ontology on Universal Knowledge Grid （UKG）. UKG is an ontology-based grid architecture model to build large-scale distributed knowledge discovery system on the grid. The data mining ontology services are the main service offering by UKG. It can meet the user requirements of knowledge discovery in different domains and different hierarchies and make the system exoteric, extensible and high usable. A data min- ing solution for money laundering is introduced.

The use of mobile phone applications for our touristic activity is very common nowadays with the simplification of smartphones. The tourism mobile applications currently can be argued to be one of the most useful applications that can facilitate the movement of travelers. However, existing usability evaluation metrics are too general to be applied to a more specific application, such as mobile tourism application. Thus, the objective of the study is to propose usability evaluation metrics for tourism mobile applications. The study employs four phases: identifying problem and the objective, encompassing the techniques of developing usability measurement of metrics, selecting the usability metrics of tourism mobile application and conducting expert review and verification. The verification phase was conducted using expert review approach to measure the proposed metrics in terms of its consistency ease of use, understandable, verifiable and overall impression. The finding revealed that the proposed metrics have been well received by the experts in terms of consistency, ease to use, understandable, verifiability and overall impression. Finally, this study presented usability metrics for the tourism mobile applications that can be used by designers or usability practitioners in creating a useable mobile application for the tourists.

Systems’ usability is one of the critical attribute of any system’s quality. Medical prac-titioners usually encounter usability difficulties while using a health information system like other systems. There are different usability factors, which are expected to influence systems’ usability. Errors preventions, patient safety and privacy are vital usability factors and should not be ignored while developing a health information system. This study is based on a comprehensive analysis of published academic and industrial literature to provide the current status of health information systems’ usability. It also identifies different usability factors such as privacy, errors, design and efficiency. usability factors are then assessed. Those factors are further examined through a questionnaire to study the priorities of them from medical practitioners’ point of view in Saudi Arabia. The statistical analysis shows that the privacy and errors are very critical than the other usability factors. The study results further revealed that availability and response time are the main challenges faced by the medical practitioners when using the HIS. However, flexibility and customizability were claimed to ease the use of the HIS. In addition, a number of statistical correlations were established. Overall, the study findings seemed helpful to designers and implementers to consider these factors for successful implementation of HIS.

usability is a vital characteristic in operating medical machines, especially radiological machines, such as computed tomography (CT) scans and X-rays. The more the body is exposed to it, the greater the negative effect has. If usability is crucial to a specific industry, it is more crucial in the medical health industry due to its tremendous effect on safety and the patient’s health. This study examines the usability of CT scans based on 14 attributes from hospitals across Saudi Arabia. The study revealed that usability consistency, visibility, minimalism, memory, and flexibility have the most usability catastrophic complaints, where the overall catastrophic rate exceeds 20%. Creating a shortcut for frequently used operations is critically important, because it has a fundamental effect in minimizing physical and mental exertion.

Creation and Evaluation of a Multi-sensory Virtual Assembly Environment

The multi-modal information presentation, integrated into the virtual environment （VE）, has potential for stimulating different senses, improving the user＇s impression of immersion, and increasing the amount of information that is accepted and processed by the user＇s perception system. The increase of the useful feedback information may reduce the user＇s cognitive load, thus enhancing the user＇s efficiency and performance while interacting with VEs. This paper presents our creation of a multi-sensory virtual assembly environment （VAE） and the evaluation of the effects of multi-sensory feedback on the usability. The VAE brings together complex technologies such as constraint-based assembly simulation, optical motion tracking technology, and real-time 3D sound generation technology around a virtual reality workbench and a common software platform. The usability evaluation is in terms of its three attributes： efficiency of use, user satisfaction, and reliability. These are addressed by using task completion times （TCTs）, questionnaires, and human performance error rates （HPERs）, respectively. Two assembly tasks have been used to perform the experiments, using sixteen participants. The outcomes showed that the multi-sensory feedback could improve the usability. They also indicated that the integrated feedback offered better usability than either feedback used in isolation. Most participants preferred the integrated feedback to either feedback （visual or auditory） or no feedback. The participants＇ comments demonstrated that nonrealistic or inappropriate feedback had negative effects on the usability, and easily made them feel frustrated. The possible reasons behind the outcomes are also analysed by using a unifying human computer interaction framework. The implications, concluded from the outcomes of this work, can serve as useful guidelines for improving VE system design and implementation.
