Study the urban Expansion of Taif City Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques for Decision Support System

The goal of this study is to spatially portray Taif’s urban expansion and determine for last 30 years, from 1990 to 2020. It is only including the residential neighborhoods approved by the Taif Municipality, which is responsible and organized for urban planning in the city. The geographical location of the city of Taif is a vital crossroad between eastern and western parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which made it a tourist destination, as well as commercial and agricultural preference for many years, as it was considered the summer capital of the KSA. Moreover, it serves as the entrance to Makkah city from the eastern side. The proposed study has necessitated because the lack of recent scientific studies that dealt with the spatial analysis of urban expansion and its trends in the city of Taif and follow the stages of expansion during periods of time by relying on remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques. The many development projects in the city of Taif, such as Taif International Airport, the new Taif project, and other projects, which will cause an increase in demand for residential, commercial, industrial and service units have also prompted the proposed study. This was investigated using a multitemporal Landsat data for the years of 1990, 2002 and 2020, as well as census data from 1990 to 2020, along with Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques. The results revealed that over the last 30 years, urban land cover has increased by 20,448 (ha) whereas other land covers, such as green area, have decreased significantly by 14,554 (ha). The results also indicate that the increase in urban areas amounted to 114.8% during the period from 1990 to 2020. The locations of new developments such as Taif airport, Taif university, Ministry of Housing projects, etc. were located to the North and Northeast. This is due to the area’s topography, which played a major role in determining the direction of urban expansion.

Land Use/Land Cover Change Detection in Pokhara Metropolitan, Nepal Using Remote Sensing

Land use and land cover are essential for maintaining and managing the natural resources on the earth surface. A complex set of economic, demographic, social, cultural, technological, and environmental processes usually result in the change in the land use/land cover change (LULC). Pokhara Metropolitan is influenced mainly by the combination of various driving forces: geographical location, high rate of population growth, economic opportunity, globalization, tourism activities, and political activities. In addition to this, geographically steep slope, rugged terrain, and fragile geomorphic conditions and the frequency of earthquakes, floods, and landslides make the Pokhara Metropolitan region a disaster-prone area. The increment of the population along with infrastructure development of a given territory leads towards the urbanization. It has been rapidly changing due to urbanization, industrialization and internal migration since the 1970s. The landscapes and ground patterns are frequently changing on time and prone to disaster. Here a study has been carried to study on LULC for the last 18 years (2000-2018). The supervised classification on Landsat Imagery was performed and verified the classification through computing the error matrix. Besides, the water bodies and vegetation area were extracted through the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDWI) respectively. This research shows that during the last 18 years the agricultural areas diminishing by 15.66% while urban area is increasing by 13.2%. This research is beneficial for preparing the plan and policy in the sustainable development of Pokhara Metropolitan.

This paper assesses land use and land cover change dynamics in Wuhan city during the period *** overall objective is to quantify urban expansion that has occurred during the period under review in order to better understand the drivers and implications of land use and land cover *** satellite imagery is acquired at six-time periods for 1987 through 2006 at approximately four-year intervals,with data collected for each of the years in late spring or late *** images are enhanced and georeferenced to the Wuhan local coordinate system:UTM zone 49N;Datum WGS *** images are then classified using four land use/cover classes(urban,water,forest,agriculture)and change detection analysis is performed on each image using ERDAS IMAGINE *** and visualising urban expansion that occurred during the period under review is done using Arc GIS *** study area(bulti-up area of the city)is delineated using a city boundary for *** use/cover conversion trends are measured and the rates and types of change are *** find fast urban expansion during 1987-1994(10.2%),a somewhat slowed down pace of growth during 1994-2000(6.6%),and a renewed fast pace during2000-2006(10.3%).Overall,urban land area expanded about 27%during the entire study *** expansion was mostly at the expense of the agricultural land use/cover category that was converted to urban uses at the highest rate of about 24.6%during the study *** population and urban per capita incomes are the major drivers of urban expansion during the period under review.

Tehran was a small town about 200 years ago, when it started to grow rapidly to adapt to the demands of westernization and modernization. New urban developments transformed the city into an economic hub, and attracted new migrants who changed the demographic as well as the structural characteristics of the city. In the ensuing years, Tehran was no more an isolated city, but an agglomeration of settlements socially and economically interrelated through an inefficient transportation system. The Tehran-Karaj urban region emerged. This paper intends to investigate the process of making the Tehran – Karaj urban region. It argues that this formation faces crucial problems and challenges and hence an unsustainable condition which never allows its inhabitants to benefit from the advantage of a practical "urban region". A main challenge, it will be spelled out, is the existing inefficient management system through which each urban unit is planned separately without concerning its connectivity to the other units. To tackle this issue, the establishment of an integrated sustainable management and monitoring system is highly required.

产业结构优化升级与城市化进程之间存在着交替演进和相互推动的关系，通过解析产业升级与城市增长的互动作用关系，构建分析框架和指标体系。采用格兰杰(Granger)因果关系检验法，结果表明，城市规模扩大是产业发展升级的重要原因，城市质量的提升对其无显著影响，产业发展升级对城镇居民收入提高有较大促进作用，但是对城市化其他变量因素无显著影响，进一步的方差分解分析也表明了相同或相似的结果，据此得出相应的结论与对策。

Several planning tools and approaches such as action plan,period plan,physical development plan have been applied for planned development for municipalities including other small and medium-sized towns of *** them Integrated urban Development Plan(IUDP)is the latest approach that focuses integrated sectoral development envisioning longterm spatial development by adopting strategic actions,which is backed by lead development sectors of that *** study is based on field level data collection through municipal and community level interactions,observation and field *** municipality,which is located in the hilly region of Bagmati province Nepal has been selected for this study,which reveals an array of diverse patterns and challenges of municipal *** scenario of urban growth in Dudhauli has been taking place at and around Dudhauli bazzar,Dakaha and Sirthauli area and main roadsides in the form of compact and linear development pattern in unplanned way,which has resulted increasing built-up area and decreasing agriculture *** spatial expansion of residential buildings construction and densification of built-up areas have been increased by 56%within the time period of 10 years in Dudhauli ***,fertile agriculture land has been converted into constructional area *** regulate urban development in a right direction,a planned urban development of Dudhauli is ***,in this context would be an appropriate tool to guide as a framework of municipal development by considering vision,goals,strategies,key activities and land use zones for regulated urban development.
