Removal of virus aerosols by the combination of filtration and uv-c irradiation

The cOVID-19 pandemic remains ever prevalent and afflicting—partially because one of its transmission pathways is *** the widely used central air conditioning systems worldwide,indoor virus aerosols can rapidly migrate,thus resulting in rapid infection *** is therefore important to install microbial aerosol treatment units in the air conditioning systems,and we herein investigated the possibility of combining such filtration with uv irradiation to address virus *** showed that the removal efficiency of filtration towards f2 and MS2 phages depended on the type of commercial filter material and the filtration speed,with an optimal velocity of 5 cm/s for virus ***,it was found that uv irradiation had a significant effect on inactivating viruses enriched on the surfaces of filter materials;MS2 phages had greater resistance to uv-c irradiation than f2 *** optimal inactivation time for uv-c irradiation was 30 min,with higher irradiation times presenting no substantial increase in inactivation ***,excessive virus enrichment on the filters decreased the inactivation *** inactivation is therefore *** general,the combined system involving filtration with uv-c irradiation demonstrated a significant removal effect on virus ***,the system is simple and economical,making it convenient for widespread implementation in air-conditioning systems.

conversion of ergosterol into vitamin D2 and other photoisomers in Agaricus bisporus mushrooms under uv-c irradiation

Agaricus bisporus mushrooms contain high levels of ergosterol(3–8 mg/g dw),which can be converted into vitamin D2(VD2)under ultraviolet irradiation(uv).However,the photoconversion of ergosterol can also lead to the production of inactive photoisomers decreasing the production yield of *** study assesses the impact of uv irradiation conditions on the conversion of ergosterol into vitamin *** effects of various parameters were tested including the mushroom form(powder,extract,suspension),irradiation time(0–240 min),temperature(20–40°c),intensity(0.16–0.48 mW/cm2),and agitation during uv-c *** mushroom extract was the most suitable mushroom form for VD2 *** VD2,other photoisomers(tachysterol and lumisterol),were detected through HPLc-APcI-MS and their levels increased with deep and prolonged *** highest VD2 levels(0.95–1.03 mg/g dw)were obtained by irradiating mushroom extracts with an intensity of 0.31 mW/cm2 for 10 *** results highlight the potential of mushrooms for VD2 production through uv-c irradiation,which is accompanied by the formation of biologically-active photo-isomers.

Photocatalytic Inhibition of cyanobacterial Growth Using Silver-doped TiO_2 under uv-c Light

capacity of the silver-doped TiO2 under uv-c light to restrain cyanobacterial growth was explored with Anabaena sp. Pcc 7120 and Microcystis aeruginosa as test species. The survival, chlorophyll bleaching, photosynthetic activity, DNA breakages, antioxidant enzyme activities, lipid peroxidation, and cellular morphologic structure of test cyanobacteria were analyzed. The results indicate that the test cyanobacteria with uv-c photocatalysis by silver-doped TiO2 sufferd from effects of reactive oxygen species, which promote the damage of the cell wall and the peroxidation of cell membranes, and subsequently, aggravate the losses of cell organelle and viability. The results suggest that uv-c photocatalysis by the silver ions doped TiO2 could be a promising method to prevent fast and excessive growth of cyanobacteria in eutrophic water sources.
