Geochemical Constrains on Petrogenesis and Tectonic Setting of Volcanic Rocks from the Baimianxia and Sanwan Formations in the Northern Margin of the Yangtze Plate

On the basis of petrogeochemical data, the volcanic lavas of the Baimianxia Formation can be classified into two units： high TiO2 and low TiO2. The TiO2 concentration of the former is generally higher than 1%, which occurs in the lower part with high-grade metamorphism, but the latter is less than 1% and crops out in the upper part with low-grade metamorphism. The high-TiO2 unit is dominated by tholeiitic lavas showing high rare earth element （REE） contents （~REE = 83.4-180.8 pg/ g）, high light/heavy REE （LREE/HREE） ratios （LREE/HREE=2.17-5.85） and weak negative Eu anomaly （Eu=0.79-1.01）. Its trace element patterns display weak Nb-Ta anomalies with respect to Th, K, La, Ce, showing within-plate basalt affinities. In contrast, the low-TiO2 unit is characterized by low REE contents, low LREE/HREE ratios, and pronounced Nb-Ta anomalies, indicating typical arc or continental arc signature. Chondrite-normalized REE patterns of basalts and andesites from the Sanwan Formation are flat or LREE depletion, which is very similar to normal mid-oceanic basalt. Therefore, we suggest that these lavas should be formed in a back-arc basin setting. Sr-Nd isotopic data of the basalt in the lower part suggest that the rocks would have been formed in ~1144 Ma. Based on the geochemical and isotopic features of the basalts, we suggest that these rocks in the low part of the Baimianxia Formation should originate from an asthenospheric oceanic-island basalt-like mantle source, which may be produced by partial melting of garnet lherzolite, and significantly underwent fractional crystallization and crustal or lithospheric mantle contamination en route to the surface. However, laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry zircon u-pb dating of the basalt sample from the upper part of the Baimianxia Formation gives a 437 Ma, indicating a Early Paleozoic age. Petrogenesis of Granites from the Ediacaran Socorro Batholith,SE Brazil:Constraints from Zircon dating,Geochemistry and Sr-Nd-Hf Isotopes

Detrital zircon geochronology and provenance of sediments within the Mesozoic basins:New insights into tectonic evolution of the Qinling Orogen

Mesozoic sedimentary units within the Nanzhao and Mashiping basins record the paleogeographic and tectonic evolution of the Qinling Orogen(QO).This study uses new detrital zircon u-pb ages and Hf isotopic data to constrain the timing of deposition and provenance of the Taishanmiao,Taizishan,Nanzhao,and Mashiping formations of the North Qinling Orogen(NQO).The detrital zircons can be split by age peaks into five major groups,including Early Cretaceous,Late Triassic,Early Paleozoic,Neoproterozoic and Paleoproterozoic age *** the basis of the youngest zircon ages and age-diagnostic fossils,we conclude that the Taishanmiao(youngest age of 234 Ma)and Taizishan(216 Ma)formations were deposited during the Late Triassic,whereas the Nanzhao Formation(110 Ma)was deposited during the Early Cretaceous rather than the Late Jurassic as previously *** Mashiping Formation(110 Ma)was also deposited during the Early *** with zircon Hf isotopic compositions,zircons from Late Triassic units were generally derived from the NQO,South Qinling Orogen(SQO),and North China Craton(NCC),with minor amounts derived from the Xing-Meng Orogenic *** sediments within the Nanzhao Formation were mainly derived from the QO,with a minor contribution from the *** Early Cretaceous conglomerates of the Mashiping Formation were generally derived from recycled earlier *** implies that Late Triassic deposition was related to the final closure of the Mianlue Ocean,whereas Early Cretaceous deposition was correlated to the continued intercontinental subduction of the Yangtze Craton beneath the *** change in provenance within these Mesozoic sediments suggests the QO underwent two periods of significant uplift,which was a process generated sediments that were deposited in a series of basins of this area.

Geochemistry,petrogenesis and tectonic significance of the late Triassic A-type granite in Fujian,South China

The late Permian–Triassic granites in southeastern China have important tectonic significance for the evolution of South China. Here, we present the detailed geochronological, geochemical and petrological analyses for the Jinlongyan(JLY) granite in northwest Fujian Province, southeast China. LA–ICP–MS zircon u–pb dating yielded a weighted average ^(206)pb/^(238)u age of 224.1 ±3.3 Ma. The granite is mainly comprised of K-feldspar,plagioclase, quartz, biotite and minor amphibole. It is characterized by enrichments in Rb, Th, REEs(total REE = 295.1–694.3 ppm), and HFSEs(e.g., Zr = 289–520 ppm, Hf = 9.3–15.0 ppm, Y = 36.2–68.2 ppm) but depletions in Ba, Sr, Eu and Ti. The granite is metaluminous to weakly peraluminous and show a clear A-type granite geochemical signature with high SiO_2(70.89 wt%–75.76 wt%), total alkalis(Na_2O + K_2O = 7.51 wt%–8.72 wt%), Ga/Al ratios(10000 Ga/Al = 2.72–3.43). Insitu zircon Hf isotope analysis shows their eHf(t) values ranging from-7.2 to-3.2, with Mesoproterozoic T2DM ages(1308–1525 Ma). Whole-rock Nd isotope data show their eNd(t) values in the range of-9.5 to-9.1 and yield paleoproterozoic TDMages(1606–1985 Ma). These characteristics indicate that the JLY A-type granite magma was formed by the partial melting of Meso-Paleoproterozoic crust rocks in the Cathaysia Block. Our study of the JLY A-type granite, together with other Triassic A-type granitesin South China, defines an extensional environment in the late Triassic which probably was caused by the collision of the South China Block with Indochina Block.

Multiple and prolonged porphyry Cue Au mineralization and alteration events in the Halasu deposit, Chinese Altai, Xinjiang,northwestern China

The Halasu area is located in the southeastern margin of the Chinese Altai in Xinjiang, China. It is part of the Altaid orogenic collage where a number of porphyry-type Cue Moe Au deposits have been discovered in recent years. Geological mapping and drilling indicate the presence of various mineralized porphyritic intrusions in the Halasu Cue Au deposit, which is currently under exploration. ue pb dating of zircon crystals from four different mineralized porphyries reveals three significantly different ages of magmatic intrusion, i.e., ca. 372e382 Ma granodioritic porphyry and porphyritic granite, ca. 266 Ma quartz monzonitic porphyry, and ca. 216 Ma quartz dioritic porphyry. Ree Os dating of molybdenite from veinletdissemination ores in the granodioritic porphyry yields an age of mineralization of ca. 377 Ma, and Ar e Ar dating of K-feldspar from K-feldsparequartzechalcopyrite veins produces ages of ca. 269 and ca.198 Ma. The mineralization（and alteration） ages correspond broadly to the three episodes of magmatic intrusion, suggesting three overprinting porphyry mineralization events that are significantly separated in time. The first episode of porphyry intrusion and mineralization may be related to the magmatic arc being above a plate subduction zone, and the second was formed in a late-collisional environment during the closing of the Junggar Ocean, whereas the third episode of mineralization took place in the postcollisional stage. This case study suggests that in orogens where major porphyry deposits have been found in magmatic arc environments, the potential of discovering late- to post-collisional porphyry deposits cannot be neglected; conversely, in orogens where most porphyry deposits have late- to postcollisional ages, more attention should be paid to porphyries that were formed earlier in magmatic arc environments.

Neoarchean(2.5-2.8 Ga) crustal growth of the North China Craton revealed by zircon Hf isotope:A synthesis

The crustal growth of the North China Craton （NCC） during the Neoarchean time （2.5--2.8 Ga） is a hotly controversial topic, with some proposing that the main crustal growth occurred in the late Neoarch- ean （2.5--2.6 Ga）, in agreement with the time of the magmatism, whereas others suggest that the main crustal accretion took place during early Neoarchean time （2.7-2.8 Ga）, consistent with the time of crustal- formation of other cratons in the world. Zircon u-pb ages and Hf isotope compositions can provide rigorous constraints on the time of crustal growth and the evolution and tectonic division of the NCC. In this contri- bution, we make a comprehensive review of zircon Hf isotope data in combination with zircon u-pb geochro- nology and some geochemistry data from various divisions of the NCC with an aim to constrain the Neoarchean crustal growth of the NCC. The results suggest that both 2.7--2.8 Ga and 2.5-2.6 Ga crustal growth are distributed over the NCC and the former is much wider than previously suggested. The Eastern block is characterized by the main 2.7-2.8 Ga crustal growth with local new crustal-formation at 2.5-2.6 Ga, and the Yinshan block is characterized by ~2.7 Ga crustal accretion as revealed by Hf-isotope data of detrital zircons from the Zhaertai Group. Detrital zircon data of the Khondalite Belt indi- cate that the main crustal growth period of the Western block is Paleoproterozoic involving some ~ 2.6 Ga and minor Early- to Middle-Archean crustal components, and the crustal accretion in the Trans-North China Orogen （TNCO） has a wide age range from 2.5 Ga to 2.9 Ga with a notable regional discrepancy. Zircon Hf isotope compositions, coupled with zircon ages and other geochemical data suggest that the southern margin may not be an extension of the TNCO, and the evolution and tectonic division of the NCC is more complex than previously proposed, probably involving multi-stage crustal growth and subduction processes. Determination of the Neoproterozoic Shicaogou Syn-collisional Granite in the Eastern Qinling Mountains and Its Geological Implications

The Shicaogou granite has been identified as a magnesian (Fe-number=0.71-0.76), calcic to calc-alkalic (MALI=3.84-5.76) and peraluminous (ASI=1.06-1.13) granite of the syn-collisional S-type, with high SiO2(>71%), A12O3 (>13%) and Na2O+K2O (6.28%-7.33%, equal for NaO2 and K2O). Trace element and REE analyses show that the granite is rich in LILE such as of Rb, Sr, Ba and Th, and poor in HFSE like Yb, Y, Zr and Hf. Its Rb/Sr ratio is greater than 1; the contents of Nb and Ta, and the ratio of Nb/Ta as well as the REE geochemical features (e.g. REE abundance, visible fractionation of LREE and HREE and medium to pronounced negative Eu anomalies) are all similar to those of crust-origin, continent-continent syn-collisional granite. Moreover, the granite exhibits almost the same pattern as that of the typical continent-continent syn-collisional granite on the spider diagram and all samples fall within the syn-collisional granite *** cathodoluminescence (CL) investigations have revealed that the zircon from the Shicaogou granite represents a typical magmatic product characterized by its colorless, transparent and euhedral crystals, and distinct zoning of oscillatory bands. Residual cores of irregular zircon can be found in a few enhedral grains. Trace element studies of the zircon grains, with high contents of P, Y, Hf, Th, u and REE and high ratios of Th/u, obviously positive Ce anomalies and HREE enrichment compared to LREE, also result in the same *** LA-ICP-MS u-pb isotopic data from 24 spots of 21 zircon grains demonstrate that 20 spots in the oscillatory zone yield an average weighted 206pb/238u age of 925±11 Ma, indicating that the Shicaogou granite was formed in the Neoproterozoic. Combined with other Neoproterozoic syn-collisional granites found in the study area, the present geochronological determination can further reveal that collision-amalgamation events could have occurred among some continental blocks in the Qinling orogenic belt during th

Geochronology and Geochemistry of Gabbros from Moa-Baracoa Ophiolitic Massif, Eastern Cuba: Implication for Early Cretaceous SSZ Magmatism

A series ophiolitic massifs in the northeastern part of Cuba are generally considered to be relics of proto-Caribbean or Caribbean lithosphere, emplaced during Paleogene collision of the NW Caribbean and North American plates(Iturralde-Vinent et al., 2016). However, neither their age nor their geodynamic settings are well constrained. They are generally considered to be Creataceous in age but they have been interpreted as having formed in a back-arc basin, forearc basin or plume setting(e.g. Giunta et al., 2009;Marchesi et al., 2016;Kerr et al., 1999). The Moa-Baracoa ophiolitic massif consists of mantle harzburgite, a Moho transition zone, layered and isotropic gabbro, and pillow basalts. The isotropic gabbros, collected west of Moa(20°35′17.99″N, 75°02′56.58″W), are composed mainly of subhedral plagioclase and subhedral to euhedral clinopyroxene with minor primary brown amphibole. The plagioclase grains are fresh, whereas the clinopyroxene very weakly altered and partly replaced by secondary amphibole. Cathodoluminescence(CL) images of zircon grains separated from isotropic gabbro display oscillatory zoning and broad zoning, analogous to typical igneous zircon in gabbro. Ten zircon grains with oscillatory zoning in CL images yielded a mean u-pb SHRIMP age of 136.7±1.8 Ma. Isotropic gabbro samples have low SiO2(47.22 wt%–49.25 wt%), TiO2(0.13 wt%–0.26 wt%) and K2O(0.04 wt%–0.08 wt%) and high MgO(8.22 wt%–16.72 wt%), Cr(1337–2065 μg/g) and Ni(192–507 μg/g) contents. Their CaO, Al2O3 and Na2O contents vary from 13.56 wt% to 15.78 wt%, 14.98 wt % to 21.98 wt %, and 0.71 wt % to 1.87 wt %, respectively. In the SiO2 versus Zr/TiO2*0.0001 diagram, the samples plot in the sub-alkaline basalt field but show calcalkaline affinities in the FeOT/MgO vs. SiO2 diagram. The gabbros contain low REE contents(∑REE = 4.71–7.71), and their chondrite normalized REE patterns show very weak depletion in light REE(LREE,(La/Yb)N = 0.34–0.50) and flat heavy REE(HREE,(Gd/Yb)N = 1.02–1.15) p

Mesozoic ore deposits in Zhejiang Province,Southeast China,are divided into the northwestern and southeastern Zhejiang metallogenic belts along the Jiangshan-Shaoxing *** metal ore depos- its found in these belts are epithermal Au-Ag deposits,hydrothermal-vein Ag-pb-Zn deposits, porphyry-skarn Mo(Fe)deposits,and vein-type Mo *** is a close spatial-temporal relationship between the Mesozoic ore deposits and Mesozoic volcanic intrusive *** u-pb dating of the ore-related intrusive rocks and molybdenite Re-Os dating from two typical deposits(Tongcun Mo deposit and Zhilingtou Au-Ag deposit)in the two metallogenic belts show the early and late Yanshanian ages for *** u-pb data of zircons from the Tongcun Mo deposit and Zhilingtou Au-Ag deposit indicate that the host granitoids crystallized at 169.7±9.7 Ma(2σ)and 113.6±1 Ma(2σ),***-Os analysis of six molybdenite samples from the Tongcun Mo deposit yields an isochron age of 163.9±1.9 Ma(2σ).Re-Os analyses of five molybdenite samples from the porphyry Mo orebodies of the Zhilingtou Au-Ag deposit yield an isochron age of 110.1±1.8 Ma(2σ).Our results suggest that the metal mineralization in the Zhejiang Province,southeast China formed during at least two stages,i.e.,Middle Jurassic and Early Cretaceous,coeval with the granitic magmatism.
