The relationship among circulation height of circulation flow with horizontal axis and incident flow conditions as well as side slope angles of trenches was analyzed on the basis of the velocity distribution data observed in a series of model tests in a flume, and the related formula for the circulation height was proposed. The variation of circulation flow intensity was described.

Aiming at understanding how intermetallic phases response when AA2024-T3 aluminium alloy is exposed to chloridecontainingaqueous medium, scanning electron microscopy was employed to provide morphological information on alloy surfacebefore and after corrosion testing. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was carried out to determine compositional change inintermetallic particles. Atomic force microscopy was used to examine topographical variation introduced by the reactions ofintermetallic phases. Transmission electron microscopy combined with ultramicrotomy was carried out on dealloyed Al2CuMgparticles and their periphery region. It is found that dealloyed Al2CuMg particles exhibited porous, polycrystalline structurecomprised of body-centred cubic copper particles with sizes of 5 to 20 nm. Aluminium matrix started to trench in the periphery ofAl2CuMg particles at the early stage of dealloying. Development of trenching in ***.（Si） particle’s periphery was notuniform and took longer time to initiate than Al2CuMg dealloying. Localized corrosion at a cluster of Al2CuMg and Al2Cu particleswas mainly associated with Al2CuMg particles.

The paper reviews goals and objectives, stages and components of a seismotectonic study conducted in Eastern Siberia, Russia. Based on a comprehensive analysis of geological and geophysical data, our study establishes whether the local earthquakes are of tectonic origin and reveals relationships among earthquakes with recent geodynamic processes in the area under study. Seismic hazard assessment and evaluation of tectonic processes are the two major closely interrelated aspects of seismotectonic studies. A seismotectonic study is generally combined with a seismic study and conducted prior to the stage of detailed seismic zonation (DSZ) which is followed by seismic micro-zonation (SMZ). In three stages of the seismotectonic study, we analyze specific geological structures, reveal the regional dynamics of seismotectonic processes, clarify details of potential seismic hazard locations and identify sites of the potential instantaneous deformation of the crust which may take place due to active faulting. Based on results of our longterm studies, a seismotectonic zonation map of Eastern Siberia is compiled. The paper briefly reviews the methods of mapping and refers to data on active faults and neotectonic structures revealed in the area under study, which are closely related to regional earthquake sources.

Our field investigation indicates that the northern piedmont fault of the Hengshan Mountain has dislocated proluvial fan and terrace I of the gully mouth on the northern border of the Hengshan Mountain. Stratigraphic age data indicates that the surface layer in the middle and rear part of the proluvial fan and on the terrace I of the gully mouth on the mountain border consists of sediments of about 5200～6800a B.P. The Hezhuang and Niucaoyu trenches excavated in the front of Hengshan Mountain revealed that 3 paleoseismic events have occurred along the northern piedmont fault of Hengshan Mountain since the early Holocene. The 3 paleoseismic events occurred in 2260±190～4370±150a BP, nearly 5628±150a BP, and 8083±250～8430±720a BP, respectively, and their recurrence interval is 2313a,2628a and 2471a on average. The coseismic vertical displacement produced by these events is 1 0～3 0m. The elapsed time of the latest movement along the fault has exceeded the recurrence interval of these paleoearthquakes. Thus, there exists the possibility of strong earthquake occurrence along the fault from now onward, so the fault is in need of observation.

Analysis of fault outcrops and trench sections indicates fault displacements of 0.2m～6.0 m on the bottom paleosol layer of the Epipleistocene with the maximum rate of 0.047 mm/a and an average displacement of 1.1 *** activity appears as fissures on the fault surface in the late Epipleistocene and there is no obvious *** fault activity is weak and the most active segment is the Bailuyuan segment.
