The Shuangwang gold deposit, located in the Fengxian-Taibai fore-arc basin in the western Qinling Orogen of Central China, has yielded over 70 tons of gold. It is an orogenic gold deposit occurring in an NW-trending breccia belt. Most of the ores are hydrothermal breccia type containing fragments of adjacent strata cemented by ankerite and pyrite. Pyrite is the most abundant metallic mineral and the major gold-bearing mineral in the ores. A total of 58 pyrite samples from main ore bodies of the Shuangwang gold deposit have been analysed for 44 trace elements by HR-ICP-MS. Sb, Ba, Cu, Pb, Zn, Bi, Mo, Co are selected as indicator elements to investigate the potential usefulness of trace elements in pyrite as an indicator in gold exploration. The results show that the supra-ore halo elements Sb and Ba, which may have been more active than other near-ore halo elements and sub-ore halo elements, are best to characterize the shape of ore bodies. Five target areas are pointed out for deep ore exploration based on a comprehensive study of supra-ore, near-ore and sub-ore halos. This study provides evidence that trace elements in pyrite can be used to depict the deep extension of ore bodies and to vector towards undiscovered ore bodies.

trace element characteristics of partial melts produced by melting of metabasalts at high pressures: Constraints on the formation condition of adakitic melts

Experiments were conducted on a natural basalt (with 5 wt.% added H2O) at 1.0―2.5 GPa and 900―1100℃. Experimental products include partial melts (quenched glasses) + residual mineral assemblages of amphibolite or eclogite. Electron microprobe and LAM-ICP-MS were used to determine major and trace element compositions of these quenched melts, respectively. Major ele- ment compositions of all the melts are tonalitic- trondhjemitic, similar to adakite. Their trace element characteristics are controlled by coexisting residual minerals. Signatures of adakite such as high Sr/Y, low HREE and negative Nb-Ta anomaly, etc. are present only in the melts coexisting with residual assemblages containing rutile and garnet (rutile-bearing eclogite or rutile-bearing amphibole-eclogite). Garnet leads to HREE depletion in melts, whereas rutile controls Nb and Ta partitioning during the partial melting and causes negative Nb-Ta anomaly in melts. Therefore, in addition to garnet, rutile is also a necessary residual phase during the generation of adakite or TTG magmas to account for the negative Nb-Ta anomaly of the magmas. The depth for the generation of adakite/TTG magmas via melting of metabasalt must be more than about 50 km based on the approximate 1.5 GPa mini- mum-pressure for rutile stability in the partial melting field of hydrous basalt.

Effects of trace element and purification on properties of AZ80 magnesium allo

The effects of trace element Fe on the corrosion behavior of AZ80 magnesium alloy were investigated by salt spray test and electrochemical *** results show that the corrosion rate decreases with decreasing the trace element Fe content in an approximately linear relation even though the amount of trace element Fe reduces to 0.000 2%(mass fraction).The electrochemical measurements show that the corrosion potential(φcorr)of the alloy with lower trace element Fe content shifts to less negative *** is suggested that the control trace element by purification is an effective way to enhance the corrosion resistance of AZ80 magnesium alloy.

Determining the geographic origin of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens, using trace element content

bstract A chemometric study using pattern recognition technology was carried out to characterize the geographic origins of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens. The concentrations of 23 trace elements （Mn, Mo, Cd, Ce, V, Th, Cs, Be, T1, Fe, Nd, Pr, Se, Tm, Lu, Eu, Ho, Br, Dy, Gd, U, Sm and Er） in 53 samples from seven regions in southern China were determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The data obtained were successively evaluated using a multivariate statistical approach, namely, linear discriminant analysis, which allowed classification and discrimination of the N. lugens samples from Fuqing, Shaoguan, Hepu, Yongfu, Hengnan, Wan-an and Yongkang with high accuracy and a clear separation among the seven regions. The results show that pattern identification on the basis of trace elements in the bodies ofN. lugens is feasible for determining the geographic origins of individuals.

Boron Isotopic Fractionation and trace element Incorporation in Various Species of Modern Corals in Sanya Bay, South China Sea

The boron isotope paleo-pH proxy has been extensively studied due to its potential for understanding past climate change, and further calibrations were considered for accurate applications of the proxy because of significant variability related to biocarbonate microstructure. In this work, we studied the boron isotopic fractionation between modern marine corals and their coexisting seawater collected along shallow area in Sanya Bay, South China Sea. The apparent partition coefficient of boron（KD） ranged from 0.83×10-3 to 1.69×10-3, which are in good agreement with previous studies. As the analyzed coral skeleton（~5 g） spanned the growth time period of 1–2 years, we discussed the boron isotopic fractionation between pristine corals and modern seawater using the annual mean seawater pH of 8.12 in this sea area. Without taking the vital effect into account,（11B/10B）coral values of all living corals spread over the curves of（11B/10B）borate vs.（11B/10B）sw with the α4-3 values ranging from 0.974 to 0.982. After calibrating the biological effect on the calcifying fluid pH, the field-based calcification on calcifying fluid pH（i.e., Δ（pHbiol-pHsw）） for coral species of Acropora, Pavona, Pocillopora, Faviidae, and others including Proites are 0.42, 0.33, 0.36, 0.19, respectively, and it is necessary to be validated by coral culturing experiment in the future. Correlations in B/Ca vs. Sr/Ca and B/Ca vs. pHbiol approve temperature and calcifying fluid pH influence on skeletal B/Ca. Fundamental understanding of the thermodynamic basis of the boron isotopes in marine carbonates and seawater will strengthen the confidence in the use of paleo-pH proxy as a powerful tool to monitor atmospheric CO2 variations in the past.

Oxidative damages to DNA by indoor PM10s: Their relationships with trace element compositions

Plasmid DNA assay and ICP-MS analysis were conducted in order to investigate the bioreactivity of inhalable particles （PM_ 10） and the relationship between bioreactivity and trace element compositions of PM_ 10 in Beijing air. A total of four PM_ 10 samples were carefully selected to represent the indoor and corresponding outdoor environments: one from urban smoker's home, two from non-smoker's homes, and the other from the outdoor. In general, the oxidative damage by indoor PM_ 10 was slightly higher than that of outdoor. Among the four sets of samples, the PM_ 10 from the smoker's home had a lowest TD50 （toxic dose of PM_ 10 causing 50% DNA to be damaged）, being 100 μg·mL -1, suggesting the highest bioreactivity. The heavy metals are believed to be the main reason for oxidative damage to plasmid DNA. The ICP-MS analysis combined with the DNA assay showed that the water-soluble zinc levels had better relationship with TD50 values than other elements, implying that water-soluble zinc might play an important role in the damage of DNA. It is concluded that the PM_ 10 in smoker's home had the highest level of water-soluble zinc as well as the lowest TD50 （highest bioreactivity）. Iron is considered to be one of the most bioreactive elements, but it will cause little damage to plasmid DNA, probably because iron is mainly in water-insoluble state in Beijing PM_ 10.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of manganese methionine hydroxyl analog chelated(Mn-MHAC)as a manganese(Mn)source on growth performance and trace element deposition in broilers.A total of 432 Arbor Acres commercial female broilers were fed a basal corn-soybean diet containing Mn at 25.64 mg/kg diet for 10 *** were then randomly assigned to 6 groups,including a control group(the basal diet),a Mn sulfate group(the basal diet supplemented with Mn at 100 mg/kg diet),and 4 Mn-MHAC groups(the basal diet supplemented with Mn-MHAC at 25,50,75 and 100 mg Mn/kg diet,respectively).The results showed that compared with the control group,groups supplemented with Mn-MHAC had a positive effect on BW(quadratic,P=0.017)and ADG(quadratic,P=0.017).Moreover,the Mn-MHAC(50 mg Mn/kg diet)group had significantly greater BW and ADG(Pelement deposition results also showed that tibial Mn increased(linear or quadratic,P-0.002 and 0.009,respectively)in groups fed diets with increased levels of *** contrast,Fe deposition decreased both in the heart(linear,P-0.020)and tibia(Ptrace element deposition in *** this study,we recommend the opti-mum Mn-MHAC level to meet the Mn requirement of broile

Rare Earth element and trace element Features of Gold-bearing Pyrite in the Jinshan Gold Deposit,Jiangxi Province

Jinshan gold deposit is located in northeastern Jiangxi,South China,which is related to the ductile shear *** has a gold reserve of more than 200 tons,with 80%of gold occurring in pyrite. The LREE of gold-bearing pyrite is as higher as 171.664 ppm on average,with relatively higher light rare earth elements（LREE;159.556 ppm） and lower HREE（12.108 ppm）.TheΣLREE/ΣHREE ratio is 12.612 and（La/Yb）_N is *** indicate that pyrite is rich in ***（La/Sm）_N ratio is 3.758 and that of（Gd/Yb）_N is *** are obvious LREE *** rare earth element（REE） distribution patterns show obvious Eu anomaly with averageδEu values of 0.664,andδCe anomalies of *** characteristics are similar to those of wall rocks（regional metamorphic rocks）,but different from those of the Dexing granodiorite porphyry and Damaoshan biotite *** features indicate that the ore-forming materials in the Jinshan gold deposit derived from the wall rocks, and the ore-forming fluids derived from metamorphic *** Co/Ni ratio（average value 0.38） of pyrite suggests that the Jinshan gold deposit formed under a medium-low *** is inferred from the values of high-field strength elements,LREE,Hf/Sm,Nb/La,and Th/La of the pyrite that the ore-forming fluids of the Jinshan gold deposit derived from metamorphic water with Cl〉F.

Geographical Tendencies of trace element Contents in Soils Derived from Granite,Basalt and Limestone of Eastern China

92 soil samples were collected from granite, basalt and limestone areas of eastern China and determined for 13 trace element contents. The geographical tendencies of and factors affecting trace element contents in soils were *** sequences of soil trace element contents (especially the transitional elements in the 4th period) were: basalt soils > limestone soils > granite *** contents of trace elements in soils of granite areas and basalt areas showed great inheritance of trace element contents from the relevant parent rocks. The contents of trace elements in limestones were very low, but they became very high in limestone soils. trace element contents of soils derived from limestone and basalt'increased significantly from north to south, these tendencies were similar to the tendency of ferric oxide contents in *** were differences of contents of trace elements bound to ferric oxide in different kinds of parent material and in different types of soil. The correlations between the contents of trace elements and the contents of ferric oxide were better in basalt soils than in granite soils.
