tick-borne diseases(TBDs) are a major public health concern that has increased in the past three decades. Nevertheless, emerging or reemerging TBDs may be still misdiagnosed. Molecular biology techniques for the screening of ticks, use of "Omics" approaches and the incorporation of analytical methods such as mass spectrometry or nuclear magnetic resonance, to the study of ticks and their associated pathogens or potential pathogens are promising tools for a more accurate differential diagnosis of TBDs. However, this huge amount of data needs to be carefully interpreted before being incorporated to the routine of clinical practice. In the meantime, a clinical approach and high level of suspicion keep being essential for the diagnosis and proper handling of TBDs.

tick-borne pathogens in Iran:A meta-analysis

Objective:Different studies have been performed on the prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in different areas of Iran;however,as far as our knowledge,there is no regional meta-analysis available for consideration and estimation of tick species infected with different pathogens in ***:In this review,among different databases,a total of 95 publications were included,and the infection of different tick species to different tick-borne pathogens was determined;furthermore,presence of pathogens(with 95%confidence intervals)in tick vectors was calculated separately for each province,using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis version 2(Biostat,USA).Results:Totally,among all 95 studies,5673 out of 33521 investigated ticks were positive according to different detection *** estimated presence of pathogens in tick vectors in Iran was 8.6%(95%CI 7.0%-10.6%,Pticks in 10 genera in Iran,28 species in 9 genera,including Alveonasus,Argas,Boophilus,Dermacentor,Haemaphysalis,Hyalomma,Ixodes,Ornithodoros,and Rhipicephalus were infected with at least 20 pathogens in 10 genera including Aegyptianella,Anaplasma,Babesia,Borrelia,Brucella,Orthonairovirus[CrimeanCongo hemorrhagic fever virus(CCHFV)],Coxiella,Ehrlichia,Rickettsia and Theileria in 26 provinces of *** presence of pathogens in ticks collected in western Iran was more than other *** anatolicum(20.35%),Rhipicephalus sanguineus(15.00%),and Rhipicephalus bursa(14.08%)were the most prevalent infected ticks for different *** addition,most literatures were related to CCHFV and Theileria/Babesia ***:Public health and veterinary professionals should be aware of diagnosing possible diseases or outbreaks in vertebrates.

Background:Pathogens that are transmitted by ticks to dogs,such as Anaplasma phagocytophilum,Babesia spp.,Borrelia burgdorferi sensu latu,and Ehrlichia canis,are an increasing problem in the *** method to prevent pathogen transmission to dogs is to kill the ticks before transmission ***(Bravecto) is a novel isoxazoline insecticide and acaricide that provides long persistent antiparasitic activity following systemic *** study investigated the speed of kill of fluralaner against Ixodes ricinus ticks on ***:A total of 48 dogs were randomized to 8 groups of 6 dogs and each dog was infested with 50 female and 10 male *** *** days later(day 0),4 groups received a single treatment of 25 mg fluralaner/kg body weight as Bravecto chewable tablets;the dogs in the other 4 groups were left *** control and treatment groups were paired at each time point(4,8,12,or 24 hours after treatment) for assessment of tick-killing *** 4,8,and 12 weeks after treatment,all dogs were re-infested with 50 female *** ticks and subsequently assessed for live or dead ticks at either 4,8,12,or 24 hours after *** was calculated for each assessment time point by comparison of the treatment group with the respective control ***:tick-killing efficacy was 89.6% at 4 hours,97.9% at 8 hours,and 100% at12 and 24 hours after treatmentEight hours after re-infestation,efficacy was 96.8%,83.5%,and 45.8% at 4,8,and 12 weeks after treatment,*** least 98.1% tick-killing efficacy was demonstrated 12 and 24 hours after re-infestation over the entire 12 week study ***:Fluralaner kills ticks rapidly after treatment at 4 hours,and over its entire 12-week period of efficacy,it achieves an almost complete killing effect within 12 hours after tick *** rapid tick-killing effect together with the long duration of efficacy enables fluralaner to aid in the prevention of tick
