Effect of FeSi additive in dual-chamber sample cup on thermal analysis characteristic values and vermiculating rate of compacted graphite iron

thermal analysis plays a key role in the online inspection of molten iron quality.Different solidification process of molten iron can be reflected by thermal analysis curves,and silicon is one of important elements affecting the solidification of molten iron.In this study,FeSi75 was added in one chamber of the dual-chamber sample cup,and the influences of FeSi75 additive on the characteristic values of thermal analysis curves and vermiculating rate were investigated.The results show that with the increase of FeSi75,the start temperature of austenite formation TALfirstly decreases and then increases,but the start temperature of eutectic growth TSEF,the lowest eutectic temperature TEU,temperature at maximum eutectic reaction rate TEM,and highest eutectic temperature TERkeep always an increase.The temperature at final solidification point TEShas little change.The FeSi75 additive has different influences on the vermiculating rate of molten iron with different vermiculation,and the vermiculating rate increases for lower vermiculation molten iron while decreases for higher one.According to the thermal analysis curves obtained by a dual-chamber sample cup with 0.30wt.%FeSi75 additive in one chamber,the vermiculating rate of molten iron can be evaluated by comparing the characteristic values of these curves.The time differenceΔtERcorresponding to the highest eutectic temperature TERhas a closer relationship with the vermiculating rate,and a parabolic regression curve between the time differenceΔtERand vermiculating rateηhas been obtained within the range of 65%to 95%,which is suitable for the qualified melt.

Avirtual wall thicknessmethod is developed to simulate the temperature field of turbine bladeswith thermal barrier coatings(TBCs),to simplify the modeling process and improve the calculation efficiency.The results show that the virtualwall thickness method can improve themesh quality by 20%,reduce the number ofmeshes by 76.7%and save the calculation time by 35.5%,compared with the traditional real wall thickness method.The average calculation error of the two methods is between 0.21%and 0.93%.Furthermore,the temperature at the blade leading edge is the highest and the average temperature of the blade pressure surface is higher than that of the suction surface under a certain service condition.The blade surface temperature presents a high temperature at both ends and a low temperature in themiddle height when the temperature of incoming gas is uniformand constant.The thermal insulation effect of TBCs is the worst near the air film hole,and the best at the blade leading edge.According to the calculated temperature field of the substrate-coating system,the highest thermal insulation temperature of the TC layer is 172.01 K,and the thermal insulation proportions of TC,TGO and BC are 93.55%,1.54%and 4.91%,respectively.

Quantitative prediction of phase content is of great importance to control and optimize the heat treat-ment process of steels.In this work,a model for predicting the phase content of tempered high carbon steels was proposed by taking a martensitic 100Cr6 bearing steel as a model case.The microstructural transformations during tempering were studied using thermal analysis,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Kinetics analysis of thermal evolution by employing the isoconver-sional method,and assisted by TEM and XRD characterization,were performed to quantitatively estimate the volume fractions of different phases after tempering.A series of isothermal tempering experiments were designed to verify the model.The predicted results were in good agreement with the experimental results of XRD and electrolytic extraction measurements.

thermal analysis of the cryostat feed through for the ITER Tokamak TF feeder

In Tokamaks,the toroidal field （TF） coil feeder is an important component that is used to supply the cryogens and electrical power for the TF coils.As a part of the TF feeder,the cryostat-feed through （CFT） is subject to low temperatures of 9 and 80 K inside and room temperature of 300 K outside.Based on the features of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor TF feeder,the thermal performance of the CFT under the nominal conditions is studied.Taking into account the conductive,convective and radiation heat transfer,the finite element model of the CFT is built.Transient thermal analysis is performed to determine the temperatures of the CFT on the 9th day of cooldown.The model is assessed by comparing the cooling curves of the CFT after 9 days.If the simulation and experimental results are the same,the finite element model can be considered as calibrated.The model predicts that the cooling time will be approximately 26 days and the temperature distribution and heat load of the main components are obtained when the CFT reaches thermal equilibrium.This study provides a valid quantitative characterization of the CFT design.

thermal analysis and Optimization for Cryopanel of NBI Cryocondensation Pump

Excellent vacuum performance ensures a high beam transmission efficiency of the neutral beam injector （NBI）. The vacuum performance is mainly determined by the cryoperformance of the cryopanel of the cryocondensation pumps which are the main vacuum pumps of NBI. In order to optimize the cryoperformance, the requirements for the temperature distribution and the heat load of the cryopanel are analysed and the factors that affect the cryopanel＇s temperature distribution are studied. The results indicate that the temperature difference of the cryopanel can be reduced by fabricating the cryopanel with high thermal conductivity material, increasing its thickness and cutting the distance between the two upward cooling pipes. The results may be applied to a cryopanel cooled by forced flow liquid helium.

thermal characteristics of multiple laser stripes integrated into one chip is investigated theoretically in this paper. The temperature pattern of the laser diode mini-array packaged in a TO-can is analyzed and optimized to achieve a uniform temperature distribution among the laser stripes and along the cavity direction. The temperature among the laser stripes varies by more than 5 K if the stripes are equally arranged, and can be reduced to less than 0.4 K if proper arrangement is designed. For conventional submount structure, the temperature variation along the cavity direction is as high as 7 K, while for an optimized trapezoid submount structure, the temperature varies only within 0.5 K.

thermal analysis of EAST neutral beam injectors for long-pulse beam operation

Two sets of neutral beam injectors(NBI-1 and NBI-2) have been mounted on the EAST tokamak since 2014. NBI-1 and NBI-2 are co-direction and counter-direction, respectively. As with indepth physics and engineering study of EAST, the ability of long pulse beam injection should be required in the NBI system. For NBIs, the most important and difficult thing that should be overcome is heat removal capacity of heat loaded components for long-pulse beam extraction. In this article, the thermal state of the components of EAST NBI is investigated using water flow calorimetry and thermocouple temperatures. Results show that(1) operation parameters have an obvious influence on the heat deposited on the inner components of the beamline,(2) a suitable operation parameter can decrease the heat loading effectively and obtain longer beam pulse length, and(3) under the cooling water pressure of 0.25 MPa, the predicted maximum beam pulse length will be up to 260 s with 50 keV beam energy by a duty factor of 0.5. The results present that, in this regard, the EAST NBI-1 system has the ability of long-pulse beam injection.

thermal analysis and optimization of proton beam window for the CSNS

The proton beam window （PBW） is one of the key devices of China Spallation Neutron Source （CSNS）. It is the boundary between transport line and target. This paper will present a new PBW structure and detailed thermM-stress analysis. The energy deposition and scattering effect need to be low when the beam passes through the PBW, so proper selection of material and structure is important. According to the study of energy deposition, A5083-O is selected as the PBW material. A single-double layer structure is first proposed based on the study of cooling structures. thermal analysis and structural optimization are discussed, and transient analysis is done to show the effect of the beam pulse. Besides, safety is confirmed for cases of cooling tunnel blockage, beam profile shrinkage, or centroid orbit offset. All these analyses show the newly designed PBW structure can meet the requirements of the CSNS well.

Design study of charge-stripping scheme of heavy ion beams for HIAF-BRing

Charge strippers play an essential role in heavy-ion accelerators by stripping the projectile ions to higher charge states to enhance the acceleration efficiency downstream of the stripper.In the high-energy mode of the booster ring(BRing)of the high-intensity heavy-ion accelerator facility,the pre-accelerated ions from the iLinac will be stripped by a carbon foil to higher charge states and then injected into the BRing.The key parameters of the stripper and stripped ions were calculated,and the influence of stripping on the beam quality was discussed.To get high stripping efficiencies,the foil thicknesses and resultant charge state distributions for the typical ions were determined by the code ETACHA.The equilibrium thickness was obtained for the U beam,while the stripper thicknesses for the Xe and Kr beams were determined based on a compromise between the stripped charge states and the stripping efficiency.The energy loss,energy straggling,and emittance growth due to stripping have a non-negligible impact on the transport of the stripped beams and the injection of the ring.Therefore,these parameters were simulated by GEANT4.In addition,the foil’s temperature evolution,which greatly affects the foil lifetime,was simulated by ANSYS.The maximum temperature of the foil bombarded by the U and Xe beams with the nominal parameters will exceed the safe value in terms of the impact of evaporation on the foil’s lifetime.Given the foil temperature constraint,the highest tolerable beam intensity and the injected ion number into the ring were derived for different beam sizes.The results of this paper will present important reference data for the optimization design and commissioning of the beamline and injection to the BRing for the stripped ions.

Multi-frictional disks are employed to transmit the torque in speeding wetclutch, and the oil thickness within frictional disks could be adjusted for practical outputspeeding. As oil combined with alpha-hydrocarbon or polyester is getting widely used as lubricantand the speeding wet clutch works within hydrodynamic lubrication, mixture lubrication, boundarylubrication and contact situation, established the thermal analysis model for investigating thebehavior of frictional disks in speeding wet clutch, which covers the power-law fluid model,Patir-Cheng average flow model, GT asperity contact model, oil film inertia and heat effects, meanenergy equation, and heat conduction equation. The formulas in the model are deduced. The numeralcalculation and analysis for hydrodynamic lubrication and mixture lubrication are executed.Relationships and variations among transmitting torque, mean push pressure, output speed, and loadare presented. thermal effect should be considered during the hydrodynamic lubrication and largertransmitting torque makes earlier entrance to mixture lubrication.
