Vision, application scenarios, and key technology trends for 6G mobile communications

With the global commercialization of the fifth-generation(5G) network, many countries, including China, USA, European countries, Japan, and Korea, have started exploring 6G mobile communication network, following the tradition of “planning the next while commercializing one generation”. Currently,studies on 6G networks are at the infancy stage. Research on the vision and requirements for 6G is still ongoing, and the industry is yet to clarify the key enabling technologies for 6G. However, 6G will certainly build on the success of 5G. Therefore, developing high-quality 5G networks and seamlessly integrating 5G with verticals are the priorities before 2030, when 6G is projected to be commercialized. Also, global 5G standards will keep evolving to better support vertical applications. As a milestone, the Third-Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) published Release 16 in July 2020, which continuously enhanced the capabilities of mobile broadband service based on Release 15 and realized the support for low-delay and high-reliability applications, such as Internet of Vehicles and industrial Internet. Currently, 3GPP is working on Releases 17 and 18, focusing on meeting the demands of medium-and high-data-rate machine communication with low-cost and high-precision positioning, which will be published in June 2022. Thus, 6G networks will further expand the application fields and scope of the Internet of Things to accommodate those services and applications that are beyond the capabilities of 5G networks. Herein, we present our vision, application scenarios,and key technological trends for 6G networks. Furthermore, we propose several future research opportunities in 6G networks with regard to industrialization and standardization.

terahertz(THz) wireless communication has been recognized as a powerful technology to meet the everincreasing demand of ultra-high rate *** order to achieve efficient and reliable wireless communications over THz bands,it is extremely necessary to find an appropriate waveform for THz *** this paper,performance comparison of various single-carrier and multi-carrier waveforms over THz channels will be ***,first,a system model for terahertz communication is briefly described,which includes amplifier nonlinearity,propagation characteristic,phase noise,***,the transceiver architectures related to both single-carrier and multi-carrier waveforms are presented,as well as their corresponding signal processing *** evaluate the suitability of the waveforms,key performance metrics concerning power efficiency,transmission performance,and computational complexity are *** results are provided to compare and validate the performance of different waveforms,which demonstrate the outstanding performance of Discrete-Fourier-Transform spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(DFT-s-OFDM) to THz communications when compared to Cyclic Prefix-OFDM(CP-OFDM) and other single-carrier waveforms.

With the development of wireless mobile communication technology,the demand for wireless communication rate and frequency increases year by *** wireless mobile communication frequency tends to be saturated,which demands for new ***(THz)communication has great potential for the future mobile communications(Beyond 5G),and is also an important technique for the high data rate transmission in spatial information *** communication has great application prospects in military-civilian integration and coordinated *** China,important breakthroughs have been achieved for the key techniques of THz high data rate communications,which is practically keeping up with the most advanced technological level in the ***,further intensifying efforts on the development of THz communication have the strategic importance for China in leading the development of future wireless communication techniques and the standardization process of Beyond *** paper analyzes the performance of the MIMO channel in the terahertz(THz)band and a discrete mathematical method is used to propose a novel channel ***,a channel capacity model is proposed by the combination of path loss and molecular absorption in the THz band based on the CSI at the *** results show that the integration of MIMO in the THz band gives better data rate and channel capacity as compared with a single channel.

With the development of wireless communication,the 6G mobile communication technology has received wide *** one of the key technologies of 6G,terahertz(THz)communication technology has the characteristics of ultra-high bandwidth,high security and low environmental *** this paper,a THz duplexer with a half-wavelength coupling structure and a sub-harmonic mixer operating at 216 GHz and 204 GHz are designed and *** on these key devices,a 220 GHz frequency-division multiplexing communication system is proposed,with a real-time data rate of 10.4 Gbit/s for one channel and a transmission distance of 15 *** measured constellation diagram of two receivers is clearly visible,the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)is higher than 22 dB,and the bit error ratio(BER)is less than 10^(−8).Furthermore,the high definition(HD)4K video can also be transmitted in real time without stutter.

Recently,wireless communication capacity has been witnessing unprecedented *** from the optoelectronic components with large bandwidth,photonics-assisted terahertz(THz)communication links have been extensively developed to accommodate the upcoming wireless transmission with a high data ***,limited by the available signalto-noise ratio and THz component bandwidth,single-lane transmission of beyond 100 Gbit/s data rate using a single pair of THz transceivers is still very *** this study,a multicarrier THz photonic wireless communication link in the 300 GHz band is proposed and experimentally *** by subcarrier multiplexing,spectrally efficient modulation format,well-tailored digital signal processing routine,and broadband THz transceivers,a line rate of 72 Gbit/s over a wireless distance of 30 m is successfully demonstrated,resulting in a total net transmission capacity of up to 202.5 Gbit/*** single-lane transmission of beyond 200 Gbit/s overall data rate with a single pair of transceivers at 300 GHz is considered a significant step toward a viable photonics-assisted solution for the next-generation information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.
