Physical and technological parameters of Maize Varieties (Zea mays L.) Grown in the Southern Parts of Benin and the Influence of Chemical Composition

Objective: The study aims to investigate some physical and technological parameters of varieties of maize collected from the most representative areas of maize production in the southern part of Benin, and mainly used by the populations of those areas. Method: The chemical composition, physical and technological characteristics of the grains were determined using standard methods. Results: The results showed that the weight of 1000 grains ranges from 158.01 to 305.12 g, the length from 0.79 to 1.81 cm, the average width from 0.74 to 1.51 cm, thickness from 0.36 to 0.85 cm and density from 1.07 to 1.25. Regarding the technological parameters, the hardness of the grains before and after cooking was between 16.78 and 47.20 kgf, and 0.23 and 0.71 kgf respectively, while the cooking time varies from 71.00 and 158.33 mn. There was a positive and significant correlation (r = 0.405;p technological characteristics the maize constitutes an important raw material for many culinary recipes in West African region.

Influences of technological parameters on Carbothermal Reduction and Nitridation of Titanium Dioxide

The particle size of starting materials, the homogeneity of the carbon/oxide mixtures, and the carbon content are important parameters for a rapid reaction. The influences of technological parameters（carbon particle size, oxide particle size, mixing method, carbon content） on the reaction rate of carbothermal reduction and nitridation of titanium dioxide （TiO2 ） were investigated by a continuous thermo-gravimetric analyzer for large size specimen. The carbon particle size is the most impor tant parameter for a rapid reaction, but carbon particle may have no influence on the morphology of titanium nitride （TiN） powder. Oxide particles are the precursors of TiN powder, but the TiO2 particles size has very little influence on the reaction rate. The carbon content not only influences the reaction rate to some degree, but also influences the purity of TiN powder. The mixing method of the specimen has very little influence on the reaction rate. These results are suitable for other nitrides and carbides prepared by carbothermal reduction method.

Decarbonization of the electric power sector is essential for sustainable ***-carbon generation technologies,such as solar and wind energy,can replace the CO_(2)-emitting energy sources(coal and natural gas plants).As a sustainable engineering practice,long-duration energy storage technologies must be employed to manage imbalances in the variable renewable energy supply and electricity *** air energy storage(CAES)is an effective solution for balancing this mismatch and therefore is suitable for use in future electrical systems to achieve a high penetration of renewable energy *** study introduces recent progress in CAES,mainly advanced CAES,which is a clean energy technology that eliminates the use of fossil fuels,compared with two commercial CAES plants at Huntorf and McIntosh which are conventional ones utilizing fossil *** CAES include adiabatic CAES,isothermal CAES,liquid air energy storage,supercritical CAES,underwater CAES,and CAES coupled with other *** principles and configurations of these advanced CAES technologies are briefly discussed and a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art technologies is presented,including theoretical studies,experiments,demonstrations,and *** comparison and discussion of these CAES technologies are summarized with a focus on technical maturity,power sizing,storage capacity,operation pressure,round-trip efficiency,efficiency of the components,operation duration,and investment *** application trends were *** paper presents a comprehensive reference for developing novel CAES systems and makes recommendations for future research and development to facilitate their application in several areas,ranging from fundamentals to applications.

Investigating on casting mold (or core) making with coated sand by the selected laser sintering

Using a special coated sand as the material of the selected laser sintering (SLS), the authors test and investigate the strength change of the test samples in terms of different sintering parameters (scanning speed, laser power, sintering thickness, and so on). The characteristics of coated sand hardening by laser beam are analyzed. The sintered mold (or core) for given casting is poured with molten metal.

Extraction of puerarin by ultrasound, optimization requires to determine the technological parameters. In this paper, ultrasonic parameter is one of the technological parameters. The ethanol volume ratio, the intensity of cavitation ultrasonic power, and liquid–solid ratio were optimized by response surface methodology. Modeling the optimization of technological parameters by Designexpert software, thereby obtaining the global optimal parameters, three independent variables were the ethanol volume ratio(A: 68 %), the liquid–solid ratio(B: 53:1),and the intensity of cavitation power ultrasonic(5:1). Under these conditions,extraction rate of puerarin was 7.09 %. The result shows that taking ultrasonic parameters as optimized parameters, and optimizing ultrasonic-assisted extraction of puerarin by response surface methodology could get better performance.

In order to design the special extruder suitable for turning chicken excrement into feed, the extrusion experiments of chicken excrement are carried out on the feed extruder and food extruder. After the structural parameters of extruder for turning chicken excrement into feed are obtained from these experiments, the 7.5kW special chicken extruder is designed. The extrusion experiments have been done on this special extruder using the method of single factor and of orthogonal test to obtain the technological parameters. The result indicates that the slenderness ratio of screw is the key of extruder. The designed screw is a single threaded screw with equal depth and thread pitch, of which the slenderness ratio is 2.5. The die plate with only one hole is adopted. The better technological parameters are obtained: the moisture should be maintained about 20, the proportion of wheat bran is about 15%, and 4mm is the proper diameter of the hole in the die plate.
