tear film,the outermost layer of the eye,is a complex and dynamic structure responsible for tear *** tear film lipid layer is a vital component of the tear film that provides a smooth optical surface for the cornea and wetting the ocular *** eye syndrome(DES)is a symptomatic disease caused by reduced tear production,poor tear quality,or excessive *** diagnosis is a difficult task due to its multifactorial *** of several clinical tests available,the evaluation of the interference patterns of the tear film lipid layer forms a potential tool for DES *** instrument known as tearscope Plus allows the rapid assessment of the lipid layer.A grading scale composed of five categories is used to classify lipid layer *** reported work proposes the design of an automatic system employing light weight convolutional neural networks(CNN)and nature inspired optimization techniques to assess the tear film lipid layer patterns by interpreting the images acquired with the tearscope *** designed framework achieves promising results compared with the existing state-of-the-art techniques.

Objective： To assess the lower tear meniscus height（LTMH）, central tear film thickness（CTFT）, and central corneal epithelial thickness（CCET） after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty（DALK）. Methods： This was a retrospective cross-sectional study of 20 patients who had DALK in one eye over a three-month period. LTMH, CTFT, and CCET of the operated eyes and the unoperated fellow eyes were measured using high-definition optical coherence tomography（HD-OCT）. Correlations between three OCT assessments and age, time following surgery, graft size, bed size, and the number of residual sutures were analyzed. Results： Compared to patients with keratoconus, patients with other corneal conditions had significantly higher CCET in the fellow eye（P=0.024）. For all patients, CCET in the operated eye was significantly negatively correlated with the number of residual sutures（R=-0.579, P=0.008）, and was significantly positively correlated with time following surgery（R=0.636, P=0.003）. In the fellow eye, a significant positive correlation was found between age and CCET（R=0.551, P=0.012）, and a significant negative correlation between age and CTFT（R=-0.491, P=0.028）. LTMH was found to be significantly correlated between operated and fellow eyes（R=0.554, P=0.011）. There was no significant correlation between LTMH and age, bed/graft size, time following surgery, or residual sutures（all possible correlations, P0.05）. Conclusions： Patients with keratoconus tend to have a thinner central corneal epithelium. Corneal epithelium keeps regenerating over time after DALK. DALK did not induce a significant change in tear volume compared with the fellow eye. Postoperative tear function might depend on an individual＇s general condition, rather than on age, gender, bed/graft size, time following surgery, or residual sutures.

AIM:To evaluate the quantitative and qualitative results of the noninvasive tear film break-up time(NI-BUT)test and investigate the predictive ability of the new NIBUT parameter in discriminating between normal Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI;scores≤12)and abnormal OSDI(scores≥13).METHODS:A total of 341 eyes of 341 volunteers who applied for routine eye outpatient control were included in the prospective *** participants'noninvasive first tear film break-up time(NIF-BUT),noninvasive average tear film break-up time(NIAvg-BUT)and average value of the first three break-up time(A3F-BUT)were analyzed.A3F-BUT,the new NI-BUT parameter,is calculated by adding the NIF-BUT value to the 2^(nd )break-up time value that has a difference of at most 1 second from the NIF-BUT value and to the 3^(rd) break-up time and then dividing the respective sum by *** operating characteristic(ROC)curve and forward logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the parameter that had the best predictive ability between the OSDI ***:The NI-BUT values of 255 eyes of 255 volunteers included in the study were analyzed *** mean NIF-BUT,NIAvg-BUT,and A3F-BUT values were calculated as 5.3±3.0,8±3.1,and 5.8±3.0 seconds,*** three parameters were found to be significantly lower in the abnormal OSDI group(P=0.014,0.034,and 0.011,respectively).The area under the curve(AUC)of the A3F-BUT to predict abnormal OSDI was AUC=0.625(0.529-0.720),P=0.011 and NIF-BUT was AUC=0.599(0.502-0.696),P=*** A3F-BUT parameter and NIF-BUT parameters were found to be significantly efficient in discriminating abnormal ***:The new parameter for the NI-BUT test has more predictive ability in the discrimination of OSDI groups.

AIM: To study the tear film stability after lamellar keratoplasty METHODS: Five female and eight male patients with lamellar keratoconus, aged from 18 to 32, were involved. After lamellar keratoplasty, Schirmer I test (S I t), tear break-up time (BUT) test, fluorescein staining test were used to judge the effect of the surgery at different time point. RESULTS: The S 1 t were greatly increased in 7 clays post operation (11.86+/-2.28 -25.14+/-1.97, 19.86+/-1.61) (P0.05). The mean break-up time decreased in 7 days post operation (5.00+/-1.31 -2.71+/- 0.18, 2.57+/- 0.20, 2.71+/- 0.36, 2.43+/- 0.20) (P tear film stability, artificial tears and improving corneal epithelium cured medicine should be used after surgery.

AIM:To investigate ocular surface disorders and tear function changes in patients with acne vulgaris and explore the potential relationship between acne vulgaris and dry ***:This cross-sectional study included right eyes of 53 patients with acne vulgaris and 54 healthy *** participants completed the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)*** following ocular surface-related parameters were measured:tear meniscus height(TMH),noninvasive tear breakup time(NIBUT),Schirmer I test(SIT),lipid layer thickness(LLT)score of the tear film,meibum score,meibomian gland orifice obstruction score,the ratio of meibomian gland loss,conjunctival hyperemia score,and corneal fluorescein staining(CFS)***:The stability of the tear film decreased in acne vulgaris *** the acne group,the TMH and NIBUT were lower,whereas the OSDI,meibum score,meibomian gland orifice obstruction score,ratio of meibomian gland loss,and conjunctival hyperemia score were higher compared with controls(P0.05).In two dry eye groups,the TMH,NIBUT,and LLT score were lower in the acne with dry eye(acne-DE)group,and the meibum score,meibomian gland orifice obstruction score,ratio of meibomian gland loss and conjunctival hyperemia score in the acne-DE group were higher(P0.05).CONCLUSION:Patients with moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris are more likely to experience dry eye than those without acne *** tear film stability and meibomian gland structure dysfunction are more pronounced in patients with moderate-to-severe acne and dry eye.

AIM:To investigate the effects of diquafosol sodium(DQS)for dry eye model induced with povidone-iodine(PI)***:Ten Sprague Dawley rats as the control *** Sprague Dawley rats were used to establish the dry eye model with stimulation of 10 g/L PI for 14d,then divided rats into three groups:dry eye group with no treatment(DED group,n=10);phosphate buffer saline treated group(PBS group,n=10);diquafosol treated group(DQS group,n=10).Clinical changes were observed by tear production test,fluorescein staining,tear breakup time(TBUT)test,corneal confocal microscope and ocular surface comprehensive *** were collected on day 10 of treatment for hematoxylin-eosin(HE),periodic acid-Schiff(PAS),and alcian blue *** assay,polymorphonuclear(PMN)and mucin 1(MUC1)immunofluorescence were performed and corneal ultrastructural changes were detected by electron ***:Compared with DED and PBS groups,tear production(7.26±0.440 vs 4.07±0.474 mm;7.26±0.440 vs 3.74±0.280 mm;all P<0.01)and TBUT(7.37±0.383s vs 1.49±0.260s;7.37±0.383s vs 1.42±0.437s;all P<0.01)were significantly increased in DQS ***,PAS,and alcian blue staining and MUC1 immunofluorescence showed mucins and conjunctival goblet cells density(8.45±0.718 vs 5.21±0.813 cells/0.1 mm^(2);8.45±0.718 vs 5.36±0.615 cells/0.1 mm^(2);all P<0.01)increased in DQS *** microscopy,PMN immunofluorescence and TUNEL staining showed inflammatory infiltration and corneal epithelial cells apoptosis decreased in DQS *** increased number of microvilli in corneal epithelial and the recovered cell junction were observed in DQS ***:PI instillation can induce goblet cells and mucin loss,epithelial cell apoptosis and inflammation,which are consistent with the pathological manifestations of dry *** can repair the ocular surface damage caused by PI,reduce corneal inflammation,inhibit corneal epithelial cell apoptosis,promote mucin secretion and maintain te
