English for Science and Technology （EST）, as one branch of English for Special Purposes, has its own distinctive features and plays a significant role in today＇s English education. In language teaching, teaching materials play an important role. To a great extent, they determine the content and approaches of teaching and learning and affect the quality of language education. The author of this paper makes a tentative analysis of the compilation principles of EST teaching materials, from the perspective of students, scientific and technological discipline, and the English language, highlighting the content of teaching and the motivation of students. This paper proposes the Principles of Interest, Life-Long Development, Appropriateness, Systematization, Cognitive Scientificalness, Illumination, Integration of Abstract Knowledge and Specific Cases, Authenticity, Timeliness, and Comprehensive Improvement, so as to improve both subject competence and linguistic ability

Semantic Profiles of TED Talks as Teaching Materials

FOSTERING TEACHER AUTONOMY IN THE USE OF ENGLISH teaching materials

The present study aims to provide semantic descriptions of TED talks as language teaching materials under the theoretical framework of Legitimation Code Theory（LCT, Maton 2000, 2014）. We begin with a brief introduction of LCT and its applications in different contexts and discourses, based upon which 48 TED talk transcripts in English textbooks are analyzed by making semantic waves. Three main types of semantic profiles are found and discussed: low semantic flatline, semantic wave with one upward and downward shift, and semantic wave with two upward and downward shifts. The results indicate that language teachers should adopt different strategies in employing TED talks as teaching materials in accordance with their semantic complexity.

For many years, autonomy, especially learner autonomy has figured large in TEFL literature and practice. However, the author argues that learners can hardly become autonomous automatically without any help from their teachers. In other words, attention should also be focused on teachers. It is worthwhile to explore the relationship between English teaching materials and teacher autonomy, for materials and teachers are two important elements in language teaching. This paper begins by clarifying the relationship between ELT materials and teachers and introducing the concepts of teacher autonomy and learner autonomy. The paper presents that teacher autonomy presupposes learner autonomy and effective use of materials can foster teacher autonomy. Approaches to fostering teacher autonomy in the process of using teaching materials are also included.

The Exploration of Layered Curriculum in IELTS teaching

The main contents are as follows: starting from the modern China historical and cultural back-ground, the piano teaching in the dissemination process in China is divided into three stages, namely the beginning of the twentieth Century, twentieth Century and twentieth Century nineteen thirties 40s, from the aspects of communication activities, communication content, communication characteristics, influence on the modern piano teaching process, spread in the China were analyzed and discussed, and the characteristics and impact of the piano teaching in China were summarized and research.

English newspaper reading course plays a positive effects on English teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges. However it does not obtain enough attention at present. The application and problems of English newspaper reading in English teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges are discussed in terms of English teaching material selection＇s appropriateness, teaching 1 diversity and the major problems. The summary of experience lesson is made and teaching suggestions are put forward, which makes a constructive effect on English newspaper reading development in English teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges.

As a very hot topic, the issue of environmental protection is the concern of the global human. Protecting environmental is everyone’s responsibility. "Introduction to Environmental Protection" is a course that be set up by environmental professional in university, it introduces the theory and knowledge about environmental protection. For the problem of fewer students;boring textbooks;a small number of teachers and so on, this article described the need for reform of "Environmental Protection Introduction", and put forward the corresponding recommendations. "Introduction to Environmental Protection" is a basic course of environmental professional, all students should learn it, its materials need to be reformed, and teaching methods should be diversified and so on.
