Clinical and forensic toxicology are critically involved in the acquisition of basic skills to correctly suspect intoxication,collect biological and non-biological materials for toxicological analysis,comprehend the complexities inherent to laboratory activity,and understand the fundamentals of toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics that underlie the interpretation of results.This works presents a pedagogical innovation proposal for the Teaching of clinical and forensic toxicology based on a compilation of more than 3000 cases where the image was fulcra for suspicion.The experience in this article follows the model practiced in bachelors,masters,and PhD degrees,as well as in other continuing training courses,where we are Teaching toxicology for more than 15 years.All these levels of education are considered fundamental to the sound development of this science.This approach aims also to offer strength to the intervention of the true toxicologist in all the toxicological phases,besides the classic analytical chemistry.Indeed,it is impossible to provide effective clinical and forensic toxicological interpretations without a proper and broad education,and not thinking exclusively in terms of laboratory techniques.In the future,it will be interesting to evaluate knowledge retention and to propose a database of videos of signs related to intoxications.

Walter Joseph Bock(Fig.1)was born in Woodhaven,Queens County,New York,NY(USA),the second of 4 children of Paul and Anne Bock,née Kalsch.He grew up in a German speaking family who discontinued speaking German only at the outset of WWII.From 1947 to 1951 he attended Brooklyn Technical High School,where there was considerable emphasis on technological subjects.In 1951,he entered Cornell University in Ithaca,NY,graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1955.At Cornell,he attended a short lecture series presented by the famed ethologist Konrad Lorenz,and began an association with the ornithologist Charles Sibley.These links provided Walter with a growing appreciation of the wonders of the world of biology.

Introduction Endoscopy is a core component of gastroenterology training[1],yet there are no guidelines on how endoscopists should teach the procedure[2].Across most programs in the USA,endoscopy training follows an apprenticeship model,in which trainees develop skills through supervised,hands-on practice[3].Although some programs use assessment tools to determine proficiency in performing endoscopy procedures,most rely principally on procedural volume and subjective evaluations.As a result,endoscopic training is variable across and within institutions.

Teaching sustainable design in architecture education:Critical review of Easy Approach for Sustainable and Environmental Design(EASED)

In the current context of climate change and ecological awareness,designing sustainable environments is definitely understood as a shared responsibility.With the construction sector consuming half of the world's energy,the role of some key stakeholders such as architects becomes even more critical when providing responsible and relevant design for the built environment.Thus,improving the way our environments are being designed challenges some cultural systems that show evident limits,such as the training of future architects and engineers.In this research,the focus is on architecture students and aims to demonstrate how the use of a new sustainable performance simulation tool,called Easy Approach for Sustainable and Environmental Design(EASED)could contribute to educate them about innovatively sustainable design.This was assessed through the evaluation of student engagement,their use of the tool and its appropriation.Results show that individual work was not convincing,whereas success was met during group work.Limits and improvement possibilities were found in the interface of EASED as well as in the educational set up of the tool.

This article describes and reflects on the role of Teaching practices in undergraduate medical education on the basis of Teaching experience in the United States of America.China in particular,but also other family medicine-emerging countries,continues to embark on a path of creating and embracing a family medicine-centric system.The purpose of this article is to provide a US perspective on Teaching priorities and strategies for medical students,and how these fit into a larger structure of the family medicine clinical clerkship.We emphasize knowledge,clinical skills,clinical behaviors,and strategies for succeeding as a preceptor.We introduce key aspects of the University of Michigan family medicine clerkship and the highly effective structure provided by the leadership of the course directors.This organizational structure provides a framework for implementing the family medicine clerkship for Teaching medical students.As China and other family medicine-emerging countries increasingly embrace the discipline,we hope these ideas will provide a meaningful reference.

This article describes and reflects on the role of the Teaching practice in undergraduate education on the basis of the author’s experience in the United Kingdom.Recognizing that China is addressing the huge task of developing a general practice workforce in an unprecedented short time,I hope that sharing these ideas will be helpful.General practitioners are well able to teach the basics of medicine.However,their real strengths come when they are focusing on key consulting skills needed for general practice,developing reflective lifelong learners,and cultivating good attitudes.The practice is also able to demonstrate preventive medicine,chronic disease management,and multidisciplinary care.By providing exposure to general practice at this early stage in a medical career,the Teaching practice will hopefully inspire and attract the general practice workforce of the future.

Direct Approaches in L2 Instruction: A Turning Point in Communicative Language Teaching?(Ⅱ)

Based on the brief overview presented above,a more direct,systematic approach toTeaching communicative language abilities appears to be emerging gradually along the lines of Richards'(1990)direct approach.Such an approach requires,first,a detailed description of what communicative competence entails so that the subcomponents can be used as some kind of content base in syllabus design.Then the classroom activities canbe developed for each of the selected language areas.Thisdoes not necessarily implya return to traditional,structural syllabi.Pedagogic tasks combined with a systematic focus on form,as outlined by Long and Crookes(1992),could well function as the primary organizational units in a direct communicative syllabus.

Culturally competent care across borders: Implementing culturally responsive Teaching for nurses in diverse workforces

The migration of healthcare professionals,including nurses,is a global phenomenon.It is driven by various factors,including the pursuit of better opportunities,living conditions,and professional development,as well as political instability or conflict in their home countries.The World Health Organization(WHO)has noted that high-income countries often rely on foreign-trained nurses to fill gaps in their healthcare systems[1].For instance,as of 2021,over 40%(52 million)of all nurses in the United States(US)were expatriates[2].In the United Kingdom(UK),the percentage of expatriate nurses was even higher,reaching approximately 18%in 2021[3].Owing to globalization and migration,healthcare providers must possess cultural competence to deliver improved care[4,5].Culturally responsive Teaching(CRT)is rooted in the idea that culture plays a vital role in shaping people’s behaviors,beliefs,values,and communication styles[6].Furthermore,these cultural factors influence patients’perspectives on health,illness,healing,and their preferences for care and communication[7].By recognizing and embracing these cultural differences,nurses can provide more effective and compassionate care to their diverse patient population[8].
