target localization is an important service in wireless visual sensor networks （WVSN）. Although the problem of single target localization has been intensively studied, few consider the problem of multiple target localization without prior target information in WVSN. In this paper, we first investigate the architecture of WVSN where data transmission is reduced to only target positions. Since target matching is a key issue in the multiple target localization, we propose a statistical method to match corresponding targets to located targets in world coordinates. In addition, we also consider scenarios where occlusion or limited field of view （FOV） occurs. The proposed method utilizes target images to the greatest extent. Our experimental results show that the proposed method obtains a more accurate result in targets localization compared with the camera discard scheme, and saves significant amounts of energy compared with other feature matching schemes.

Time delay and Doppler shift between the echo signal and the reference signal are two most commonly used measurements in target localization for the passive radar. Doppler rate, which can be obtained from the extended cross ambiguity function, offers an opportunity to further enhance the localization accuracy. This paper considers using the measurement Doppler rate in addition to measurements of time delay and Doppler shift to locate a moving target. A closed-form solution is developed to accurately and efficiently estimate the target position and *** proposed solution establishes a pseudolinear set of equations by introducing some additional variables, imposes weighted least squares formulation to yield a rough estimate, and utilizes the function relation among the target location parameters and additional variables to improve the estimation accuracy. Theoretical covariance and Cramer-Rao lower bound(CRLB) are derived and compared, analytically indicating that the proposed solution attains the CRLB. Numerical simulations corroborate this analysis and demonstrate that the proposed solution outperforms existing methods.

This paper addresses the problem of target localization using Bistatic range(BR) measurements in a distributed multistatic passive radar system. The rangebased positioning technique employs multiple transmitterreceiver pairs, which provide separate BR *** on the Maximum likelihood(ML) function,an efficient algebraic Approximate maximum likelihood(AML) algorithm for single target localization is *** closed-form AML solution has neither initial condition requirements nor convergence difficulty. Simulations are included to compare its performance to that of the CramerRao lower bound(CRLB) and the Two-step Weighted least squares(TS-WLS) algorithm. The proposed method is shown to be able to achieve the CRLB accuracy under Gaussian measurement noise. It is more robust to noise than the TS-WLS method, and presents relative insensitivity to target-sensor geometry.

An efficient solution for locating a target was proposed, which by using time difference of arrival （TDOA） measurements in the presence of random sensor position errors to increase the accuracy of estimation. The cause of position estimation errors in two-stage weighted least squares （TSWLS） method is analyzed to develop a simple and effective method for improving the localization performance. Specifically, the reference sensor is selected again and the coordinate system is rotated according to preliminary estimated target position by using TSWLS method, and the final position estimation of the target is obtained by using weighted least squares （WLS）. The proposed approach exhibits a closed-form and is as efficient as TSWLS method. Simulation results show that the proposed approach yields low estimation bias and improved robustness with increasing sensor position errors and thus can easily achieve the Cramer-Rao lower bound （CRLB） easily and effectively improve the localization accuracy.

In this paper, we propose a greedy sparse recovery algorithm for target localization with RF sensor networks. The target spatial domain is discretized by grid pixels. When the network area consists only of several targets, the target localization is a sparsity-seeking problem such that the Compressed Sensing （CS） framework can be applied. We cast the target localization as a CS problem and solve it by the proposed sparse recovery algorithm, named the Residual Minimization Pursuit （RMP）. The experimental studies are presented to demonstrate that the RMP offers an attractive alternative to OMP for sparse signal recovery, in addition, it is more favorable than non-CS based methods for target localization.

Autonomous Target Localization using Quadrotor

In this paper, autonomous target localization is achieved on quadrotor helicopter, with the use of 2D laser rangefinder and fixed monocular camera. Color-featured target is located in 3D space without prior knowledge of its size or shape. Coordinate systems of camera and laser rangefinder are integrated to establish body-fixed reference coordinate system for both localization and flight control. Rotation compensation algorithm is developed to neutralize the errors introduced by the changes of attitude angles during the flight. With this feature, quadrotor can obtain the real world coordinates of target from one single frame of camera once the target is captured and identified, without the requirement of keeping orientated towards the target all the time. The relative position between quadrotor and target is updated every time the target is located. Indoor experiments are conducted with Asctec Pelican quadrotor to demonstrate the performance of the proposed localization approach.
