Introduction: The root cause of tips procedure in liver cirrhosis is dueto the complications which cannot be treated by medical therapy andunavailability of liver donors. At Present tips has been accepted at globallevel.Objectives: To study the laboratory findings, complications, prognosticindicators and imaging modalities to predict the tips status.Materials and Methods: The data of all patients who went throughtips from May,2011to May,2013were studied and followed-up. A totalof110patients were analyzed. Their clinical parameters and laboratoryvalues of their first visit or of the earliest visit whenever the findings weredocumented were recorded and analyzed via Graph pad Prism5.0software.Results: Among the110patients, eighty five were males and twentyfive were females. The mean age of presentation was42.03years (Agerange from45to60years). The most common mild complication washepatic encephalopathy (7.5%) followed by shunt stenosis (2%) within sixmonths after tips. Recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding was the most common cause of death, accounting for (4.5%) of the deaths, followed byliver failure (2.72%) and Hepatic encephalopathy (0.9%) *** was no significant effect on laboratory parameters from discharge tofollowed-up of one to2years following the tips procedure.Conclusion: selecting right client for tips procedure and assessingsome significant laboratory parameters post-tips surgery indicates tips asa valuable procedure in the liver cirrhotic patients.
