Prevalence and Pattern of Migraine, tension Type Headache and Chronic Daily Headache among Medical and Nursing Students in Enugu, South East Nigeria

Aim: To assess the lifetime prevalence of tension-type headache, migraine and chronic daily headache, including the primary headaches in a student population. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data were collected from consecutive consenting students by means of a semi-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to assess demographic data, headache profiles and medical consultation. Results: Four hundred and forty-nine (89.8%) out of 500 students who were interviewed were analyzed. The lifetime prevalence of primary headache was 89.8%;it 90.5% and 88.6% in females and males respectively. The overall prevalence of migraine was 8.9%, with a prevalence of 10.6% in females and 6.5% in males. Migraine without aura was most commonly seen at 73%. The prevalence of migraine without aura was 7.6% in females and 4.9% in males. tension type headache (TTH) had an overall prevalence of 22.9%, with a prevalence of 28.4% in females and 15.1% in males. Migraine and tension type headache co-existed in 5.8% of the students. About 8.5% suffered from chronic daily headache: chronic migraine 2.9%, chronic tension headache 3.1%. The rate of medical consultation was 54.8% (males 49.7%, females 58.3%). Conclusions: Headache is a common health problem among medical and nursing students in Enugu South East Nigeria where 89.8% of respondents have had primary headaches. The prevalence of migraine, TTH and chronic daily headache was 8.9%, 22.9% and 8.5% respectively. Headaches therefore, represent one of the most challenging neurological disorders in Sub-Saharan Africa where most sufferers do not have access to specialist care.

Interactions in Aqueous Solution of a Zwitterionic Surfactant with a Water Treatment Protein from Moringa oleifera Seeds Studied by Surface tension and Ultrasonic Velocity Measurements

The interaction of a zwitterionic surfactant with the water treatment protein extracted from Moringa oleifera has been investigated by surface tension and ultrasonic velocity measurements. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of zwitterionic surfactant was determined to be 2.4 ± 0.3 mM by both techniques and the partial specific volume ν = 0.78 ± 0.06 cm3/g for the protein was found. There seems to be a mild interaction between the protein and the surfactant as shown by surface tension measurements. The ultrasonic velocity was found to decrease in the vicinity of the critical micelle concentration which may be due to micelle aggregates formation and the protein caused a shift of the surfactant’s CMC to a higher concentration.

Characterization of optimal resting tension in human pulmonary arteries

AIM To determine the optimum resting tension(ORT) for in vitro human pulmonary artery(PA) ring *** Pulmonary arteries were dissected from disease free sections of the resected lung in the operating theatre and tissue samples were directly sent to the laboratory in Krebs-Henseleit solution(Krebs).The pulmonary arteries were then cut into 2 mm long *** rings were mounted in 25 m L organ baths or 8 m L myograph chambers containing Krebs compound(37 ℃,bubbled with 21% O_2:5% CO_2) to measure changes in isometric *** resting tension was set at 1-gram force(gf) with vessels being left static to equilibrate for duration of one *** contractile reactions to 40 mmol/L KCl were obtained from a resting tension of 1 *** reactions to 40 mmol/L KCl were then obtained from stepwise increases in resting tension(1.2,1.4,1.6,1.8 and 2.0 gf).RESULTS Twenty PA rings of internal diameter between 2-4 mmwere prepared from 4 *** human PA rings incrementing the tension during rest stance by 0.6 gf,up to 1.6 gf significantly augmented the 40 mmol/L KCl stimulated *** enhancement of active tension by 0.4 gf,up to 2.0 gf mitigate the 40 mmol/L KCl stimulated *** Myograph and the organ bath demonstrated identical conclusions,supporting that the radial optimal resting tension for human PA ring was 1.61 *** The radial optimal resting tension in our experiment is 1.61 gf(15.78 m N) for human PA rings.

Application of High tension Roll Separator for the Separation of Titanium Bearing Minerals: Process Modeling and Optimization

The High tension Roll Separator (HTRS) is one of the main electrostatic unit operations employed to separate titanium minerals like ilmenite, rutile and leucoxene which behave as conducting from zircon, sillimanite, garnet and monazite which behave as non-conducting minerals when a high potential difference is applied. Three process inputs, namely roll speed, feed material temperature and roll speed have been optimized. Experiments were conducted based on the Box- Behnken factorial design;the results were analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). A new term, called Operational Quality Index (OQI) has been defined as a process output, which is maximized by quadratic programming, to obtain the optimum operating conditions. The maximum value of OQI obtained under the constraints of grade >96% and recovery >98% is 195.53, at the following operating conditions—Temperature: 102°C, Feed Rate: 1.75 tph and Roll Speed: 132 rpm. Under these conditions, the grade and recovery obtained are 96.6% and 98.9% respectively.

Effects of tension Force on Proliferation and Differentiation of Human Periodontal Ligament Cells Induced by Lipopolysaccharides

Human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs), with the potential for multi-directional differentiation and reproduction, are the target cells of orthodontic tooth movement. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of mechanical tension force and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) on hPDLCs and whether they induce proliferative and differentiated characters in vitro. tension force was applied to hPDLCs stimulated with and without LPS for 24 hrs. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was carried out to analyze the mRNA expression of Cyclin 2 (CCND2), WNT1 inducible signaling pathway protein 1 (WISP1), runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for statistical analysis. Significant differences were indicated by P tension force promoted the mRNA expression of both the proliferation-related genes (CCND2 and WISP1) and differentiation-related genes (RUNX2 and ALP), and that both were enhanced by the simulation of LPS. In addition, the relative expression ratios CCND2/RUNX2 and CCND2/ALP both increased significantly after the application of tension, and this effect was further enhanced by LPS. All results indicated that with the assessed level of mechanical force loading, tension could promote both the proliferation and differentiation of hPDLCs, which could be enhanced by LPS, and that proliferation is promoted to a greater extent than differentiation. These findings may be valuable for understanding the importance of the application of suitable mechanical force in periodontal remodeling, especially in the process of orthodontic tooth movement with inflammation.

Computation and Measurement of Winding tension in Ring Spinning

By studying the variations of balloon height and of wind-ing radius in any one winding layer of ring spinning, the formula for determining the winding tension in any layer is derived, and then the overall tension variation throughout all winding layers can be computed. A meth-od of measuring the winding tension is also introduced here, with the measured results agreeing with the com-puted ones, and so the reliable relationship between winding tension, speed and ring traveller weight can be thus obtained. The highest allowable spindle speed is also discussed.

THE ANALYSIS OF RESCURED HIGH tension PNEUMOTHORAX AND LARGE AREA CHEST WALL DEFECTS

After analyzing 15 clinical case, 2 of which is especially representative, about perforating injury at the areaintegrates thoracic and abdominal cavities in our hospital from Jan. 1988 to Aug. 2001, the writers have summarized some therapyon it. First, to avoid delaying surgery operation , those who are injured at that area seriously should be treated with surgeryoperations immediately without X ray and supersonic checks. Second, the positive check results of suspect patients should behelpful for diagnosis, however the negative ones also could not be excluded of the diagnosis clues. The writers think that theconcomitant observation results with the development of illness are most significant. Third, the emphasis of treatments for thoseinjuries should be paid on abdomen. Explore the abdomen is necessary for the situations that abdominal substantial organs bleedand vacuum organs break, thoracic close drainage is sufficient for treating most thoracic trauma cases. It has been improved to beconvenient to check the thoracic cavities by cutting off the diaphragma temporarily if necessary. Fourth, as it was reported that asmany as 97 per cent of patients will have visceral injury dues to abdominal gunshot wound, all gunshot wounds be done with anexploratory laparotomy without hesitation. Fifth, resuscitating of patients as soon as possible is the key to decrease the mortalityand complications. Sixth, acute pancreas injury should be treated as acute pancreatitis.
