Organizing schedules and allocating time to different activities is always a challenge in dual-earner households,especially when they have children.Parents may need to link their schedule to those of their children to allow them escorting their children to school or to take care or be with their children at home.This paper reports the results of an analysis of the degree of synchronization of home departure and arrival times in dual earner households with children,where the degree of synchronization is defined as the gap between departure and arrival times of a parent and child.Using activity-travel diary data of different household members,a random parameters regression model is estimated to examine differences in time gaps in home departure and arrival times between parents and children as a function of gender,day of the week,age of the youngest child,and other socio-demographic characteristics.The results of the analysis provide insight into factors influencing the degree of synchronization and coordination of double activity-travel scheduling decisions in households with children.Findings indicate that gender,number of children in the household,age of the youngest child,travel within or outside peak hours,day of the week,transport mode used for the work commute and household income level significantly affect time gaps,especially arrival time gaps.

The collective synchronization of a system of coupled logistic maps on random community networks is investigated. It is found that the synchronizability of the community network is affected by two factors when the size of the network and the number of connections are fixed. One is the number of communities denoted by the parameter rn, and the other is the ratio σ of the connection probability p of each pair of nodes within each community to the connection probability q of each pair of nodes among different communities. Theoretical analysis and numerical results indicate that larger rn and smaller σ are the key to the enhancement of network synchronizability. We also testify synchronous properties of the system by analysing the largest Lyapunov exponents of the system.

In this paper, complete synchronization and generalized synchronization between two unidirectionally coupled optical systems with multiple time delays and noise perturbation are investigated. Sufficient conditions for both complete synchronization and generalized synchronization are rigorously established. Numerical simulations fully support the theoretical results. The effect of parameter mismatch on the quality of synchronization is also explored.

In this paper, the synchronization problem of three homodromy coupled exciters in a non-resonant vibrating system of plane motion is studied. By introducing the average method of modified small parameters, we deduced dimensionless coupling equation of three exciters, which converted the problem of synchronization into that of the existence and stability of zero solutions for the average differential equations of the small parameters. Based on the dimensionless coupling torques and characteristics of the cor- responding limited functions, the synchronization criterion for three exciters was derived as the absolute value of dimensionless residual torque difference between arbitrary two motors being less than the maximum of their dimensionless coupling torques. The stability criterion of its synchronous state lies in the double-condition that the inertia coupling matrix is positive definite and all its elements are positive as well. The synchronization determinants are the coefficients of synchronization ability, also called as the general dynamical symmetry coefficients. The double-equilibrium state of the vibrating system is manifested by numeric method, and the numeric and simulation results derived thereof indicate the indispensable and crucial role the structural parameters of the vibrating system play in the stability criterion of synchronous operation. Besides, by adjusting its structural parameters, the elliptical motion of the vibrating system successfully met the requirements in engineering applications.

A model of two oscillating pendula placed on a mobile support is studied. Once an overall scheme of equations, under general assumptions, is formulated via the Lagrangian equations of motion, the specific case of absence of escapement is examined. The mechanical model consists of two coupled pendula both oscillating on a moving board attached to a spring. The final result performs selection among the peculiar parameters of the physical process （the length, the ratio of masses, the friction and damping coefficients, and the stiffness of the spring）, providing a tendency to synchronization.

The minimal two-dimensional model of bursting neuronal dynamics is used to study the influence of time-delay on the properties of synchronization of bursting neurons. Generic properties of bursting and dependence of the stability of synchronization on the time-lag and the strength of coupling are described, and compared with the two common types of synaptical coupling, i.e., time-delayed chemical and electrical synapses.

synchronization rhythm and oscillating in biological systems can give clues to understanding the cooperation and competition between cells under appropriate biological and physical conditions. As a result, the network setting is appreciated to detect the stability and transition of collective behaviors in a network with different connection types. In this paper, the synchronization performance in time-delayed excitable homogeneous random networks（EHRNs） induced by diversity in system parameters is investigated by calculating the synchronization parameter and plotting the spatiotemporal evolution pattern, and distinct impacts induced by parameter-diversity are detected by setting different time delays. It is found that diversity has no distinct effect on the synchronization performance in EHRNs with small time delay being considered. When time delay is increased greatly, the synchronization performance of EHRN degenerates remarkably as diversity is increased. Surprisingly, by setting a moderate time delay, appropriate parameter-diversity can promote the synchronization performance in EHRNs, and can induce the synchronization transition from the asynchronous state to the weak synchronization. Moreover, the bistability phenomenon, which contains the states of asynchronous state and weak synchronization,is observed. Particularly, it is confirmed that the parameter-diversity promoted synchronization performance in time-delayed EHRN is manifested in the enhancement of the synchronization performance of individual oscillation and the increase of the number of synchronization transitions from the asynchronous state to the weak synchronization. Finally, we have revealed that this kind of parameter-diversity promoted synchronization performance is a robust phenomenon.

In this paper, we consider the synchronization of chaotic Hindmarsh Rose（HR） neurons via a scalar control input.Chaotic HR neurons coupled with a gap junction are taken into consideration, and an active compensation mechanism-based adaptive control is employed to realize the synchronization of two HR neurons. As such an adaptive control is utilized,an accurate model of the system is of no necessity. Asymptotical synchronization of two HR neurons is guaranteed by theoretical results. Numerical results are also provided to confirm the proposed synchronization approach.

This paper proposes new delay-dependent synchronization criteria for coupled Hopfield neural networks with time-varying delays. By construction of a suitable Lyapunov Krasovskii＇s functional and use of Finsler＇s lemma, novel synchronization criteria for the networks are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs） which can be easily solved by various effective optimization algorithms. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper studies synchronization of all nodes in a fractional-order complex dynamic network. An adaptive control strategy for synchronizing a dynamic network is proposed. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, this paper shows that tracking errors of all nodes in a fractional-order complex network converge to zero. This simple yet prac- tical scheme can be used in many networks such as small-world networks and scale-free networks. Unlike the existing methods which assume the coupling configuration among the nodes of the network with diffusivity, symmetry, balance, or irreducibility, in this case, these assumptions are unnecessary, and the proposed adaptive strategy is more feasible. Two examples are presented to illustrate effectiveness of the proposed method.
