Microwave Humidity Sounders （MHS） onboard NOAA- 15, - 16, - 17, - 18, - 19, and EUMETSAT MetOp-A/B satellites provide radiance measurements at a single polarization state at any of five observed frequen- cies. The Microwave Humidity Sounder （MWHS） onboard the FengYun-3 （FY-3） satellite has a unique instrument design that provides dual polarization measurements at 150 GHz. In this study, the MWHS polarization signal was investigated using observed and modeled data. It is shown that the quasi-polarization brightness temperatures at 150GHz display a scan angle dependent bias. Under calm ocean conditions, the polarization difference at 150 GHz becomes non-negligible when the scan angle varies from 10° to 45° and reaches a maximum when the scan angle is about 30°. Also, the polarization state is sensitive to surface parameters such as surface wind speed. Under clear-sky conditions, the differences between horizontal and vertical polarization states at 150GHz increase with decreasing surface wind speed. Therefore, the polarization signals from the cross-track scanning microwave measurements at window channels contain useful information about surface parameters. In addition, the availability of dual polarization measurements allows a one-to-one conversion from antenna brightness temperature to sensor brightness temperature ifa cross-polarization spill-over exists.

The LPE growth of quaternary InAs11-x-yPxSby with x = 0.2 and y = 0.09 on InAs substrate has been studied. This composition is very suitable for the laser and detector applications at about 2.5 μm. We show that in InAsPSb/InAs system there is a determinate relation between the surface morphology and the lattice mismatch of the epi-wafers, by which we can easily control the melt composition to grow high quality hetero-structures. The reason has been discussed. The p-n junctions with fairly good carrier profile have been prepared in this system.

Multi-walled carbon nanotube （MWCNT）/TiO2/C60 composite catalysts were prepared by hydrothermal method. TiO2 was deposited on the MWCNT surface. Their photocatalytic activities for degradation of Rhodamine B dye were studied. X-ray diffraction, field emission transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible light absorption spectrum and photoluminescence spectrum were carried out to characterize the composite catalysts. The results indicated that MWCNTs and C60 could greatly enhance the photocatalytic activity of TiO2.

In this paper,an extensive characterisation of a range of carbon blacks(CB)with similar surface area but different surface chemistry is carried out by flow calorimetry,Raman spectroscopy,dynamic water vapour sorption,instrumental gas analysis,nitrogen adsorption/desorption and high potential *** these carbon materials as supports,Pt/CB electrocatalysts are prepared by microwave-assisted polyol-mediated synthesis in gram ***,morphological and electrochemical properties of the prepared electrocatalysts are evaluated by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,rotating disc electrode and in situ fuel cell characterisation of the corresponding membrane-electrode *** obtained results allow to establish a relationship between surface chemistry and electrochemical properties useful for the design of Pt/C catalyst layers with high performance and stability.

The paper is aimed to investigate the adhesion and growth of neural cells on different microelectrode surfaces and their possible mechanism, thereby an optimum interfacial material or substrate for neural microelectrode can be chosen. Three different materials including platinum, gold, and pyrolyzed photoresist derived carbon material, in the forms of plasma-treated and non-treated ones, were tested. surface properties of the microelectrodes in terms of surface morphology and wettability were examined; then their biocompatibility was tested by co-culturing with SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cells. Results of experiments demonstrated that, compared with platinum and gold, carbon could be a better substrate for cell adhesion and growth,especially for the plasma-treated carbon surface. The high wetting property of plasma-treated carbon accounted for the preferable adhesion of cell on its surface. Therefore, plasma-treated carbon can potentially be employed for fabrication of biocompatible and stable neural electrodes, which is beneficial for neural engineering research, such as regeneration from injury or disease therapy of neural system.

The surface properties of monoacyl trehaloses with different acyl chains were investigated at 30℃,40℃,50℃,and 60℃.Monoacyl trehaloses were enzymatically synthesized and purified with silica gel column chromatography and semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),and the purity of products was identified by mass spectrometry(MS)and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).The surface tension of monoacyl trehalose in pure water was measured using Doüy ring method at different *** critical micelle concentrations(CMC),surface tension at the CMC,γCMC,and residual area per molecule,a,were estimated from the *** CMC value of unsaturated monoacyl trehalose was affected by both the degree of unsaturation and the acyl chain length,and the effect of chain length on the CMC value was much stronger than that of the unsaturation ***,there was no significant dependency of theγCMC value and a values on the chain length or the unsaturated degree.

In this study,we investigated the barrier properties of different kinds of microfibrillated cellulose(MFC)coating *** air,oxygen,and water vapor permeability,as well as the water contact angles(WCA),were measured to quantify the barrier efficacy of the applied *** WCA data showed that the surfaces of MFC-coated cardboards are more hydrophilic than those of uncoated ***,different MFC coatings realize different oxygen transmission rates(OTRs)and water vapor transmission rates(WVTRs).The MFC coating derived from bleached bamboo pulp subjected to carboxyethylation pretreatment(MFCCBP)gave the best oxygen and water vapor barrier *** OTR of the virgin cardboard(>16500 cm^(3)/(m^(2)·24 h))decreased to 4638 cm^(3)/(m^(2)·24 h)after coating with the *** WVTR similarly decreased from 1016.7 g/(m^(2)·24 h)to 603.2 g/(m^(2)·24 h).

The current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has reinforced the necessity of understanding and establishing baseline information on the fate and transport mechanisms of viruses under indoor environmental *** governing virus interactions in built spaces have thus far been established based on our knowledge on the interaction of inorganic particles in indoor spaces and do not include characteristics specific to *** have explored the biological and kinetic processes of microbes’attachments on surfaces in other fields but not in the built *** is also extensive literature on the influence of indoor architecture on air flow,temperature profiles,and forces influencing aerosol *** the gap between these fields will lead to the generation of novel frameworks,methodologies and know-how that can identify undiscovered pathways taken by viruses and other microbes in the built *** study summarizes the assessment of the influence of surface properties on the adhesion kinetics of vaccinia virus on gold,silica,glass,and stainless-steel *** found that on gold the virus layer was more viscoelastic compared to *** was negligible removal of the layer from the stainless-steel surface compared to the *** results further highlight the importance of converging different fields of research to assess the fate and transport of microbes in indoor built spaces.
