Effects of slag fineness on durability of mortars

In recent years, the usages of by-products and wastes in industry have become more important. The importance of the sustainable development is also of increasing. The utilizations of wastes, as mineral admixture or fine aggregate, reduce the consumption of the natural resources and improve the durability of concrete. In this study, the effect of the fineness on the high temperature and sulphate resistances of concrete mortar specimens, produced with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GBFS) replacing cement, is investigated. The compressive and flexural strength test results for all series related to durability effects, exposing temperature and solutions, exposure times for these durability effects, slag content and fineness are discussed. Conse- quently, the optimum slag contents are determined for producing the sulphate and high temperature resistant mortars.

Development of high volume rice husk ash alumino silicate composites

The development of high volume rice husk ash （RHA） alumino silicate composites （ASC） was studied. RHA was used as the source of silica and aluminium in the ASC. The mass ratios of RHA：Al（OH）3 of 70：30 to 99：1 were tested. The results indicate that the obtained ASC mortars are not stable and disintegrate in water. Boric acid was introduced to the mixture to overcome this problem. Stable ASC mortars with high RHA：Al（OH）3 mass ratios of 90：10 to 97.5：2.5 were obtained with the use of boric acid and 115oC curing. The compressive strength of the mortar of 20 MPa was gained. The immersion test indicates that high volume RHA ASC mortars show good resistance in 3vol% H2SO4 solution, but is slightly less durable in 5wt% MgSO4 solution.

The influence of theaumasite formation on the performance of Portland-limestone cement concrete stored in magnesium sulfate solution was *** experimental results show that the deterioration of Portlandlimestone cement concrete is higher than that of Portland cement *** more the content of limestone,the more serious the deterioration of concrete,and also the lower the temperature,the earlier the deterioration of *** was detected to form in the Portland-limestone pastes when stored in 10wt% MgSO4 solution at 3-10℃ and is was easy to form at lower temperatures.
