Analysis of proliferative activity and the ability to neuron differentiation was performed in cultured cells of the brain and spinal cord of juvenile masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) was used as a proliferative marker, while the markers of neuronal differentiation—a neuron protein HuCD, and a neuron-specific transcriptional factor with two DNA- binding sites Pax6—detected neurons. The results showed that cell proliferation occurred mainly in the suspension cell fraction. In monolayer, a few cells were only found to express PCNA. The results of morphological and immunohistochemical analysis allow us to conclude that proliferative activity in primary cultures from the O. masou brain is mainly connected with the suspension fraction of small cells. In contrast, a positive correlation between the cells expressing cystathionine β-synthase (CBS), a marker of H2S synthesis, and the cells expressing PCNA in the monolayer, indicates the participation of H2S in proliferative activity of neurons in primary cultures. The data obtained suggest that the hydrogen sulphide is also involved in the process of differentiation.

Superlarge sulfide deposits are hosted in the Jinchuan ultramafic intrusion. The central and west segments of the intrusion may represent magma conduits along which petrological phases are symmetrical zones. The ores are associated with the dunite and lherzolite in the central part of the intrusive body. The east segment of the intrusion is more gently titled, showing vertical zonation of rock phases with ores localized at the base. Cumulate texture is common in various types of rock. Petrological and geochemical studies indicate that flow differentiation may have dominated in the central and west segments while gravity differentiation was important in the east. The original magma was believed to be tholeiitic in composition. The massive ores were the result of filter pressing. Ore metals were supplied for the most part by progressive influx of new magmas. The segregation of sulfide liquid from the silicate melt was controlled to a large extent by volatiles. Necessary conditions for the formation of such superlarge sulfide deposits are discussed.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been related to be toxic and to have a role in human physiological functions. Therefore, there is a necessity to comprehend ways to scavenger hydrogen sulfide from different media. Here, we used recombinant metaquo-Hemoglobin I (metHbI) from Lucina pectinata and metaquo-myoglobin (metMb) encapsulated in the tetramethyl orthosilicate gel (TMOS), to facilitate the understanding of H2S transfer toward these metaquo-hemeproteins. In this sol-gel environment, metHbI binds and releases H2S with rate constants of 0.0597 M-1·s-1 and 6.67 × 10-5 s-1, respectively. The process generates an H2S affinity constant (kon/koff) of 8.9 × 102 M-1, which is 107 lowers than the analogous constant in solution (6.3 × 109 M-1). Although the H2S koff for the rHbI-H2S complex is almost similar with both sol-gel and solution. To further understand how the H2S koff from rHbI-H2S in solution (5 μM) is influenced by the protein concentration gradient, metHbI and metMb (25 μM) encapsulated in TMOS sol-gel. Under these circumstances, the H2S transfer from a solution of the rHbI-H2S complex to encapsulated hemeprotein resulted in koff values of 1.90 × 10-4 s-1, and 2.09 × 10-4 s-1 leading to the formation of rHbI-H2S and Mb-H2S species, respectively. The results suggest that the: 1) extreme ionic TMOS construct limits the H2S pathways to reach the hemeprotein active center, 2) possible interaction with metHbI hydrophilic forces increases the hydrogen bonding networking and decreases the H2S association constant, 3) hemeproteins concentration gradients between solution and sol-gels also influence its hydrogen sulfide transfer. In the presence of oxygen or hydrogen peroxide metMb generated a mixture of Mb-H2S and sulfmyoglobin derivative, while encapsulated metHbI reaction did not produce the sulfheme species. Consequently, the results show that metHbI encapsulated in TMOS is an excellent trap for H2S from solution or gas media.

Hydrogen sulfide is synthesized endogenously in mammals and has been shown to have both physiological and pathological functions. So far there has been little agreement as to the actual levels of endogenous sulfide under physiological or pathological conditions;this is partly due to the complexity involved in measuring free sulfides due to H2S volatility, oxidation, reactivity and the presence of bound labile sulfur in tissues. In this report we describe a method of measuring free tissue sulfides using a zinc sulfide precipitation and wash method. It is an indirect method that measures the sulfide difference between samples prepared at pH 9 and pH 6, assuming that at pH 9 free sulfides would be retained in solution, while at pH 6 free sulfides would volatilize during sample preparation. Using this approach we were able to measure appreciable amounts of free sulfides in mouse: lung, pancreas, liver and kidney at 0.036 + 0.006, 0.082 + 0.009, 0.215 + 0.016 and 0.323 + 0.031 nmole per mg of tissue respectively (n = 6).

The aligned hexagonal cadmium sulfide nanorods (CdSNR) have been synthe-sized by hydrothermal technique at 200ºC on fluorine tin oxide (FTO) sub-strates. Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on the photoelectrode core-shell CdSNR array with conductive polymers nanocomposite of polyaniline (PANI) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxyl-thiophene)/poly(styrene-sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) were fabricated and designed with different types of dye molecules. DSSCs were characterized utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman scattering, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and photocurrent-voltage (J-V) characteristic. Results show that under illumination (AM 1.5 G), the high power conversion energy (PCE) was achieved for CdSNR/PANI-PEDOT:PSS device when it sensitized with ruthenium (II) (dye N-719) of 0.91% and a short circuit current density (Jsc) of 4.21 mA/cm2 in comparison with the other devices, which sensitized with natural dyes. The high performance of the CdSNR/PANI-PEDOT:PSS-N719 device attributed to the wide range of absorption and photostability for N719. This work shows that the CdSNR with N719 can be appropriate candidate for photovoltaics device for their low cost fabrication procedure and excellent absorption.

Thermal simulation experiments on the system of gasoline and magnesium sulfate were carried out using an autoclave operating at high temperature and high pressure in the presence of water. Properties of the gas-oil-solid 3-phase products were analyzed by some advanced analytical methods including gas chromatography, microcoulometry, capillary gas chromatography in combination with a pulsed flame photometric detector, FT-IR and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the reaction could proceed at 450℃ - 550℃ to produce MgO, S, C, H2S, CO2 and a series of organic sulfides such as mercaptans, sulfoethers and thiophenes as the main products. According to the reaction kinetics, the calculated activation energy of the reaction is 68.9 kJ·mol-1.

The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of α-Al bronze alloy (Cu7Al) was investigated in 3.5% NaCl solution in the absence and in the presence of different concentrations of Na2S under open circuit potentials using the constant slow strain rate technique. Also, the addition of different concentrations of cysteine (cys), and alanine (ala) to the test solution, as corrosion inhibitors, was studied. Increasing the sulfide ions concentration in polluted salt water resulted in a reduction in the maximum stress (σmax) and an increase in the susceptibility of α-Al bronze towards SCC. The addition of ala and cys to the test electrolyte increased the time to failure by changing the mode of failure from brittle transgranular cracking to ductile failure. Electrochemical tests were performed to assist the interpretation of the SCC data. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The results support film rupture and anodic dissolution at slip steps as the operating mechanism of the SCC process. Therefore, cys and ala can be considered as potential environmentally-friendly corrosion inhibitors for the SCC of α-Al bronze in 3.5% NaCl solution containing sulfide ions.

Re-Os dating on copper-nickel sulfide ores from the Baotan area, Guangxi, yielded an ore-forming age of 982±21 Ma(2σ), which demonstrates that copper-nickel sulfide deposits and their related mafic-ultramafic rocks occurred in the same period of time with the ophiolites in northeastern Jiangxi. Both of them are the products of collision-convergence between the Cathaysian plate and Yangtze plate and the subsequent extensional environment. Calculation of the γOs of the 982 Ma copper-nickel sulfide ores and its correlation with Re/Os indicate that injection-type massive ores display lower γOs values(-15.6 to -8.2) and lower Re/Os ratios(0.32 to 0.43), while basal liquation-type ores have γOs= -27.9 to -7.3 and Re/Os=5.36 to 11.24. This suggests that these copper-nickel sulfide ores and their related mafic-ultramafic rocks were derived from a Re-depleted mantle source and that contamination with some crustal material occurred during their intrusion.
