Comparison of success rate and Radiological Bone Loss in Patients with Mini-Implant versus Conventional-Sized Implant Removable Prostheses: A Meta-Analysis

Background: The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess whether mini-implants have added benefit in terms of implants success rate and average bone loss over conventional-sized implants after one year of follow-up. Methods: An electronic search of randomized clinical trials was conducted in MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Central Register of Clinical Trials (CENTRAL) and Web of Science for studies including complete or partial edentulous patients requiring two or four mini-implants or conventional/ standard-sized implants in the maxilla or mandible for implant-supported removable prostheses who completed 12 months of follow-up. Results: The search provided 194 unique articles which were screened for title and abstract. Screening generated 12 articles which went through full-text analysis using eligibility criteria, and 4 articles were included for meta-analysis. Meta-analysis of these studies indicated a non-significant difference in the success rate between the two interventions (OR = 1.69 [0.74, 3.85;p = 0.21]). Bone loss estimates resulted in a significant bone reduction (Mean Difference = -0.74 [-0.95, -0.53;p - with two conventional-sized implants, the estimates were non-significant (Mean Difference = -0.24 [-0.69, 0.20;p = 0.29]). Conclusion: The current evidence does not provide solid evidence of the benefits of one intervention over the other. The success probability of searching an objective item from an unsorted database using standard Grover's algorithm is usually not exactly 1. It is exactly 1 only when it is used to find the target state from a database with four items. Exact search is always important in theoretical and practical applications. The failure rate of Grover's algorithm becomes big when the database is small, and this hinders the use of the commonly used divide-and-verify strategy. Even for large database, the failure rate becomes considerably large when there are many marked items. This has put a serious limitation on the usability of the Grover's algorithm. An important improved version of the Grover's algorithm, also known as the improved Grover algorithm, solves this problem. The improved Grover algorithm searches arbitrary number of target states from an unsorted database with full success rate. Here, we give the first experimental realization of the improved Grover algorithm, which finds a marked state with certainty, in a nuclear magnetic resonance system. The optimal control theory is used to obtain an optimized control sequence. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical predictions.

This paper presents a novel design method of the Mission success Space(MSS) for the evaluation on aircraft contribution effectiveness. MSS concept was proposed for giving success criterion of a mission and judging the success by conventional mission effectiveness with regards to the aircraft capabilities. This space is created by the Mission success Function(MSF) and the original Effectiveness Index Space(EIS) where empirical equations are usually assumed to be MSFs. Based on this MSS concept, this paper firstly defines the MSS-based evaluation, then further summarizes the evaluation process of the Contribution to System-of-Systems(CSS). More importantly, based on the thought of Inverse Design(ID), a new design method of MSF is presented comprehensively analyzing aircraft's CSS in a combat mission without using any empirical MSF. The definition of MSS based ID is given and the design procedure is sequentially introduced. Two different confrontation cases are depicted with many details as the simulation validation: Air-to-ground and Penetration. There are two design variables considered for designing MSS in the latter case while only one for the former. However, in both cases, the best design is given by evaluating the Gaussian fitting performance of CSS.

Replication is a widely used technique in unstructured overlays to improve content availability or system performance. A fundamental question often addressed by previous work focused on: how many replicas ought to be allocated for each data item given the fixed query rates and limited storage capability? In this paper, we have put forth two optimal replica distributions to achieve the highest success rate and the lowest message consumption. Especially, we have investigated the influence of item size on replica distribution. Our results show that Square-Root Replication, which is traditionally considered to be optimal, is not always the best choice. Our study offers a new deep understanding of resource managment in self-organized unstructured overlays.

Comparison of complications after Ahmed versus Baerveldt implant in glaucoma patients:one year follow-up

AIM:To compare surgical results of the Ahmed and Baerveldt implant procedures in glaucoma patients at 1 y follow-up at Jakarta Eye Center(JEC)Eye ***:This cohort retrospective study was conducted on glaucoma patients aged≥18 y who had undergone Ahmed and Baerveldt implant *** pressure(IOP),visual acuity,glaucoma medication,success rate,early and late postoperative complications,and the number of resurgeries were ***:A total of 351 eyes in the Ahmed group and 94 eyes in the Baerveldt group were included in this *** 1 y follow-up,the mean IOP was found to be significantly lower in the Baerveldt group(13±4.47 mm Hg)compared to the Ahmed group(15.02±5.73 mm Hg;P=0.025).Glaucoma medication was required in both the Ahmed and Baerveldt groups(58.92%vs 71.67%).Comparable success rate was found in both *** Ahmed group revealed a complete and qualified success of 86.82%,and failure of 13.17%.Similarly,the Baerveldt group showed complete and qualified success in 87.75%and failure in 12.25%*** the Ahmed group,11.97%early complications,26.06%late complications and 9.97%resurgeries were *** comparison,in the Baerveldt group,23.40%early complications,30.95%late complications and 11.70%resurgeries were ***:Both groups of glaucoma implants show significant IOP reduction,however,the Baerveldt implant group demonstrates greater IOP reduction with more failure rates and complications than the Ahmed implant group.

Outcome of trabeculectomy in hospital Melaka,Malaysia

AIM:To study the success and outcome of trabeculectomy in Hospital Melaka.· METHODS:Medical records of all patients who underwent trabeculectomy between January 1,2007 and October 31,2010 whom were followed up for at least 6 months postoperatively in Hospital Melaka were retrospectively reviewed.· RESULTS:A total number of 117 eyes of 91 patients with the age range between 12 to 84 years underwent primary trabeculectomy(n =20,17.1%),combine trabeculectomy with cataract surgery(n =90,76.9%),repeat trabeculectomy(n=5,4.3%),and combine repeat trabeculectomy with cataract surgery(n =2,1.7%).The disease spectrum includes primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG)(54 patients,59.3%),priamry angle-closure glaucoma(PACG)(14 patients,15.4%),secondary glaucomas(19 patients,20.9%) and juvenile glaucomas(4 patients,4.4%).Preoperative mean intraocular pressure(IOP) was(24.69±8.67)mmHg as compared to postoperative mean IOP of(15.81±6.66)mmHg,(15.07±4.72)mmHg and(15.68±3.65)mmHg at 6-month,12-month and 24-month ***-two point one percent of eyes(n =96) achieved complete success(CS),12.8%(n =15) with qualified success(QS) and only 5.1%(n = 6) failed at 6 month with two of them warrant other filtering *** twelve months,trabeculectomy with CS was 71.6%(n =63),QS in 22.7%(n =20) and failure in 5.7%(n = 5).Sixty-seven point five percent(n =27) attained CS,20.0%(n =8) with QS while 12.5%(n =5) failed at 24 month postoperative.· CONCLUSION:As the understanding of the lower the IOP,the better the patients retaining the visual function,trabeculectomy is significantly a choice of treatment in uncontrolled *** study concluded that trabeculectomy performed in Hospital Melaka has produced significant success as compared to other studies.·
