Geochemistry of trace elements and sr-nd isotopes of foraminifera shell from the Okinawa Trough

Trace elemental associations and sr-nd isotopic compositions are of important to recognition of biogenic material from mixed marine sediments. The foraminifera shell from the Okinawa Trough strongly enriches sr,P,Mn and Ba, enriches Li,U,Th,Sc,Co,Cu,Pb,Zn,Cr,Rb,Y,Sb and light rare earth elements,slightly enriches V,Ga,Zr,Nb,Cd and middle rare earth elements,is short of Mo,In,Sn,Cs,Hf,Ta,W,Ti,Bi and heavy rare earth elements. The mechanism of elemental enrichment in forminifera is the concentrations of trace elements in sea water and selective absorption of trace elements during foraminifera living, as well as the geochemical affinity between major elements and trace *** REE (rare earth elements)partition pattern of foraminifera shell of the Okinawa Trough shows enrichment of middle rare earth elements with slightly negative Ce anomaly,which are different from those of foraminifera of the Pacific *** sr,nd isotopic ratios of the Okinawa Trough foraminifera are 0 709 769 and 0 512 162,respectively, which are different not only from those of oceanic water, but also from those of river water of China's Mainland, the former is slightly higher than those of oceanic water,but much lower than those of river water;the latter is slightly lower than those of oceanic water,but higher than those of river water,demonstrating that the Okinawa Trough sea water has been influenced by river water of China's Mainland.

The Chang’e-5 mission returned new lunar samples after the last sample mission of the Moon 44 years ago,and is also the first mission that China has completed the sampling of extraterrestrial ***,independent teams from the Institute of Geology,Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences,and the National Astronomical Observatories and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences reported the first batch of results of Chang’e-5 lunar *** basic physical properties of the Chang’e-5 soil are within the range of the Apollo and Luna samples though the Chang’e-5 soil is finer-grained,better sorted,and has a slightly lower true density than the mare basalt previosuly *** Pb-Pb dating of U-rich minerals in the Chang’e-5 basalt clasts indicated that they formed at about 2.0 Ga,800 million years younger than the youngest lunar sample recovered previously(2.8 Ga),confirming that lunar volcanic activity can last at least until 2 ***-situ sr-nd isotope analyses suggested that the Chang’e-5 basalt originated from a depleted mantle *** contribution of the KREEP component is less than 5%,which excluded the hypothesis that KREEP-rich sources provide an additional heat source for mantle *** addition,water contents and H isotopes of apatite and melt inclusions of the Chang’e-5 basalt suggested that the source region is not rich in water which can lower the melting ***,the reason why lunar volcanic activity can last so long is still unclear,which is a new direction for future lunar exploration and research.

Evolution of Asian drying since 30 Ma revealed by clay minerals record in the West Pacific and its tectonic-climatic forcing

As the second largest dust source on the globe,the tectonic and climatic evolution of continental Asia has an important impact on regional and global climate *** West Pacific is the main sediment sink for eolian dust transported eastward from the Asian *** minerals,as the major fine-grained weathering products of continental rocks,can be readily transported by wind or currents over long distances and thus have been widely used in the reconstruction of paleoclimate and weathering ***,the overall evolutionary tendency and response mechanism of clay mineral records over large spatial and long timescales across Asia remain ***,two continuous and high-resolution clay mineral records since 30 Ma were reconstructed from sediments at Deep Sea Drilling Program(DSDP)Sites 292 and 296 in the Philippine *** minerals and sr-nd isotope compositions were used to constrain provenance and reconstruct the drying history of the dust source region since the *** results show that the clay-sized detrital sediments in the Philippine Sea are a mixture of Asian eolian dust and volcanic materials from the West Pacific *** on the clay mineral compositions and eolian flux,we reveal that the Asian interior has been continuously drying since the late Oligocene and that stepwise enhanced aridification occurred at approximately 20,14,7,and 3 *** with other regions of the world,the relative contents of illite and chlorite increased more dramatically in Asia during the late Cenozoic,and the inconsistency became more obvious at approximately 20 *** 3 Ma,illite and chlorite have increased consistently across the *** with the Asian tectonic and climatic history,we suggest that the increase in illite and chlorite from Asia between 20 and 3 Ma was mainly in response to the uplift of the Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau,whereas after 3 Ma,it was primarily controlled by global cooling driven by the expansion of the Arctic ice shee

Petrogenesis and Tectonic Implications of A-type Granites in Zhaheba in the East Junggar Region of Xinjiang,China:Evidence from Geochronology,Geochemistry and sr-nd Isotopic Compositions

The magma source,petrogenesis,tectonic setting and geochronology of the late Paleozoic A-type granites widely exposed in the Zhaheba area,East Junggar,have thus far not been well-constrained.A better understanding of these issues will help to reveal the magmatic processes and continental growth of Central *** A-type granites in Zhaheba include the Ashutasi alkaline granites and the Yuyitasi syenogranites,which were emplaced at 321.5±4.8 Ma and 321.7±0.6 Ma,*** major rock-forming minerals are orthoclase,perthite,arfvedsonite and quartz,which exhibit the following principal geochemical characteristics of A2-type granites.(1)Their REE distribution curves each exhibit a‘V’-shaped pattern and a marked depletion in *** are rich in large-ion lithophile elements Rb,Th and U as well as high-field-strength elements Nb,Ta,Zr and Hf,but significantly depleted in Ba,sr,P and Ti.(2)Their(^(87)sr/^(86)sr)i values(0.7021-0.7041),εnd(t)values(4.57-5.16)and REE distribution patterns are in basic agreement with those of the Kalamaili A-type granite belt in East *** T DM2 values of the alkaline granites and syenogranites range from 661 to 709 *** A-type granites may be the products of upwelling asthenosphere-triggered partial melting of immature lower *** alkaline granites were late-stage products of crystallization and *** to the syenogranites,the alkaline granites are significantly lower in K_(2)O,Na_(2)O,Al_(2)O 3,FeO,MgO and CaO,but significantly higher in incompatible elements(e.g.,SiO_(2),Rb,and sr).The magmatic crystallization temperatures of the syenogranites and alkaline granites are 874℃ and 819℃,*** their age gradually decreases(peak ages:322 Ma and 307 Ma,respectively),there is a gradual decrease in the T_(DM2)of the A-type granites and a gradual increase in theεnd(t)value from the Ulungur belt to the Kalamaili belt in East *** study of A-type granites is therefore one of the keys to understandi

The Jiang Tso ophiolite, situated in the middle segment of the Bangong- Nujiang Suture Zone, is a part of the easternmost Qieli Lake ophiolite subzone and is close to the south of Pung Lake ophiolite. The rock association of Jiang Tso ophiolite is relatively complete and is mainly composed of metamorphic peridotite, gabbro and diabase. Comparing with N-MORB, the ophiolite is high in Mg and low in Ti, K, Na, P, and is depleted in Nb, Ta, Hf, Th and enriched in Rb, sr and Ba. Geochemical characteristics of the Jiang Tso ophiolite indicate it is of a supra-subduction zone type formed in the spreading ridge of back arc basin. The SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zircons from the gabbro yielded a weighted average age of 188.1±4.1 Ma （MSWD=1.4）, indicating the Jiang Tso ophiolite was formed in the late stage of early Jurassic. The sr, nd isotopic compositions show that the Tethyan mantle domain is the depleted mantle （DM）, with enriched mantle domain II （EMII）. They have the same sr, nd isotopic composition with the India Ocean MORB type.

Petrology and Geochemistry of Post-Collisional Early Miocene Volcanism in the Karacadag Area(Central Anatolia,Turkey)

Early Miocene（ca.21-18 Ma） volcanism in the Karacadag area comprises three groups of volcanic rocks:（1） calcalkaline suite（andesitic to rhyolitic lavas and their pyroclastics）,（2） mildly-alkaline suite（alkali basalt,hawaiite,mugearite,benmoreite and trachydacite）,and（3） a single trachyandesitic flow *** observations,40Ar/39Ar ages and geochemical data show that there was a progressive temporal transition from group 1 to 3 in a post-collisional tectonic *** calcalkaline suite rocks with medium-K in composition resemble those of subduction-related lavas, whereas the mildly-alkaline suite rocks having a sodic tendency（Na2O/K2O=l.5-3.2） resemble those of within-plate *** element and sr-nd isotopic characteristics of the suites suggest that the lithospheric mantle beneath the Karacadag area was heterogeneously enriched by two processes before collision:（1） enrichment by subduction-related processes,which is important in the genesis of the calcalkaline volcanism,（2） enrichment by small degree melts from the astenosphere,which dominates the mildly alkaline *** of the enriched lithosphere by either delamination following collision and uplift or removal of the subducted slab following subduction and collision（i.e.,slab breakoff） is the likely mechanism for the initiation of the post-collision volcanism.

We report elemental and nd-sr isotopic data for three types of Ordovician volcanic and gabbroic rocks from the Sharburti Mountains in the West Junggar(Xinjiang),Northwest *** and Type I lavas occur in the Early Ordovician Hongguleleng ophiolite whereas Type Ⅱ and Ⅲ lavas are parts of the Middle Ordovician Bulukeqi *** and Type I lavas are tholeⅡ tes with a depleted light rare earth element(TREE) and mid-oceanic ridge basalt(MORB)-like signature with a crystallization sequence of plagioclase-clinopyroxene,suggesting formation at a mid-oceanic *** Ⅱ lavas are Nb-enriched basalts(NEBs,Nb = 14-15 ppm),which have E-MORB-like REE patterns and Nb/Yb and Th/Yb *** come from mantle metasomatized by slab *** Ⅲ lavas are further divided into two sub-types:(1) Type Ⅲa is tholeiitic to calc-alkaline basalts and *** REE patterns that are flat or slightly TREE enriched,and with a negative Nb anomaly and Th/Yb enrichment,indicating that they were generated above a subduction zone;(2) Type Ⅲb is calc-alkaline basalts and andesites,which are strongly enriched in TREE with a marked negative Nb anomaly and Th/Yb enrichment,suggesting generation in a normal island-arc *** imtial sr/sr ratios of Type Ⅲ lavas range from 0.70443 to0.70532 and endt ranges from +1.5 to +4.5,suggesting that these melts were derived from mantle wedge significantly modified by subducted material(enriched mantle I(EMI)) above a subduction *** tholeiitic to calc-alkaline basalt-andesite and NEB association suggest that the NEBs erupted during development of the tholeiitic to calc-alkaline *** propose a model of intra-oceanic subduction influenced by ridge subduction for the Ordovician tectono-magmatic evolution of the northern West Junggar.

Thermal ionization mass spectrometry(TIMS) offers the excellent precision and accuracy of the sr and nd isotopic ratio analysis for geological samples,but this method is labour intensive,expensive and *** this study,a new analytical protocol by TIMS is presented that aims at improving analytical efficiency and cutting down experimental *** the single-step cation exchange resin technique,mixed srand rare earth elements(REEs) fractions were separated from matrix and evaporated to ***,mixed sr + REEs fractions were dissolved and loaded onto the same Re filament using 1μl of 2 M ***,sr and nd were sequentially measured without venting using *** contrast to conventional TIMS methods,the merits of this analytical protocol are its cost- and timesaving *** applicability of ourmethod is evaluated by replicated measurements of sr/sr and nd/nd for nine international silicate rock reference materials,spanning a wide range of bulk *** typical internal precision in this study is ca.0.001%(RSE)for sr/sr and nd/nd;the analytical results obtained for these standard rocks show a good agreement with reported values, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Major and trace element,whole rock sr and nd isotope and zircon Hf isotope data are reported for a suite of A-type granites and mafic microgranuiar enclaves from the Early Cretaceous(126±2 Ma) Qianshan pluton,Liaodong Peninsula,east China,with the aim of investigating the sources and petrogenesis of A-type *** Qianshan pluton includes hornblende alkali-feldspar granite,graphic biotite granite and mafic microgranuiar *** hornblende alkali-feldspar granites have high SiO2,Fe2O3T/MgO,K2O+Na2O,Rb,Zr and LREE contents and low Ba and sr concentrations with strongly negative Eu *** high Rb/sr(87Rb/86sr = 16.76-24.15) and initial 87sr/86sr ratios(0.7215 to 0.7283),negativeεnd(t) values(-14.1 to -16.5) and zircon eHf(t) values(-18.9 to -11.5) indicate they were mainly derived from a crustal source,but with involvement of highεnd(t) and eHf(t) *** biotite granites have similar geochemical features and sr-nd-Hf isotopic compositions to enclaves, indicating they were the result of crystal fractionation of evolved mafic magmas,but with involvement of lowεnd(t) andεHf(t) *** mafic enclaves have an igneous texture and contain acicular apatite,suggesting quenching of mafic magmas that have co-mingled with the host *** have low initial 87sr/86sr ratios(0.7097-0.7148),negativeεnd(t)(-14.5 to -11.9) and zirconεHf(t)(-17.1 to -6.9) values,and are enriched in LILEs and LREEs and depleted in *** coupled with the high MgO(Mg# up to 54),this indicates derivation from an enriched lithospheric mantle source,but contaminated by crustal materials. Geochemical and sr-,nd- and zircon Hf-isotopic compositions rule-out simple crystal-liquid fractionation or restite unmixing as the major genetic link between enclaves and host rocks. Instead,magma mixing of mantle-derived mafic and crustal-derived magmas,coupled with crystal fractionation,is compatible with the *** example shows that at least some A-type granites formed thr

The Sharang porphyry Mo deposit is the first discovered Mo porphyry-type deposit in the Gangdese Metallogenic *** orebody is hosted by the Eocene multi-stage composite intrusive complex which is emplaced in the Upper Permian Mengla Formation and cut by the Miocene *** porphyry is recognized as the ore-bearing porphyry in the complex,which consists of quartz diorite,quartz monzonite,granite,prophyritic granite and post-mineral *** porphyry and dacite porphyry intrude the granite *** data indicate that Sharang complex has a High-K calc-alkalinc to shoshonitic,metaluminous to slightly peraluminous *** Sharang complex rocks are enriched in large ion lithophile elements,depleted in high-field strength elements,Nb,sr,P and *** patterns show slight enrichments in light REE relative to heavy REE and weak negative Eu *** rocks in this complex have a wide range of initial sr/sr ratios(0.705605-0.712496) and lower ε(t) values(-0.61—7.80).The geochemical data suggest highly oxidized-evolved magma and old continental materials may have been the magma source for the Sharang intrusive complex that host porphyry Mo *** pre-ore and ore-forming rocks at Sharang may have formed by partial melting of mantle wedge and by mixing with old continental crust at the lower crust *** contrast the post-ore rocks may have formed by partial melting of enriched lithospheric mantle.
