Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) is one of the oldest systems of medicine. More and more attention has been paid to TCM application, but the variable quality of clinical trials with TCM impedes its widespread acceptance. The Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials(Spirit) 2013 Statement has established guidelines for designing clinical trials to ensure that the trial results are accurate and reliable. However, there are difficulties when applying Spirit 2013 Statement to trials with TCM, due to the unique theory and the characteristic of TCM intervention. An Extension to the original Spirit was developed to ensure the quality of trial design with TCM. As Chinese herbal formulae, acupuncture and moxibustion are common and representative interventions in TCM practice, the executive working group determined that the Spirit-TCM Extension focus on these three interventions. Extension was developed through initiation, 3 rounds of Delphi consensus survey, and finalizing expert meeting. Seven items from the Spirit 2013 Statement were modified, namely, "title", "background and rationale", "objectives", "eligibility criteria", "interventions", "outcomes", and "data collection methods". The Extension includes the introduction of the concept of TCM pattern and 3 major TCM interventions, with examples and explanations. The Spirit-TCM Extension 2018 provides suggestion for investigators in designing high quality TCM clinical trials. It is expected that wide dissemination and application of this extension ensure continuous improvement of TCM trial quality throughout the world.

The 2019 marks twenty years since Professor Ao Li(黎鳌)passed away.Although he has left us,the"Li Ao Spirit"has lived on and continuously encourages us to climb higher in scientific research and make more contributions to our people and country(Fig.1).Professor Li is a well-known Chinese expert in burn surgery and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.Mr.Li,also named Shengxu Li(黎升旭),was bom in Changsha,Hunan Province in May 1917.He graduated from the National Shanghai Medical College in 1941,and had a long and distinguished career in medicine.

National Spirit Mobilization in Response to Pandemics

The cohesion of social“emotion–norm–goal”in response to major pandemics means the intention coordination of the involved group attitude,the value regulation of joint participations and the system optimization of power concentration.Social cohesive mobilization includes the core role and key variables of the government’s initiative and public response,with social rectification functions of centralized leadership,social coordination and public participation as derivatives.The mobilization of national Spirit in the process of cohesion emphasizes the formation of guidance,persuasion and influence of internal driving force based on value concept,which are mainly represented in the form of emotional mobilization,normative mobilization and goal mobilization.The“emotional paradigm”of national Spirit mobilization that enters the practical level focuses on the“heart-warming”function of emotional strategy rituals;“normative paradigm”shows the function of“heart-winning”in the sense of norms and shapes interpretation scheme as well as social regulations of social cohesion value reproduction;“goal paradigm”reflects the“confidence strengthening”function led by collective actions,and conducts the goal transmission and framework construction of“idea+action”.

The Literary Expression of the Screw Nail Spirit

The“Screw Nail Spirit”(luosiding jingshen)is the Zeitgeist in Chinese industrial age.Under the call of this Spirit,the Chinese working class is at the forefront of history.However,Chinese contemporary industrial literature has not caught up with the Spirit.What causes this difficulty?This paper analyzes how the creation and criticism of contemporary workers1 literature cope with this difficulty from the perspective of character shaping to the literary stylistics.The literary expression of the Screw Nail Spirit reflects the historical connection between literary production and modernization of the nation,and the research on this problem can be seen that the depth of exploration of contemporary literature production is between advanced nature and universality,party will and literariness.

Jiao Yulu's Spirit Still Shines in China's Modernization Endeavor

August 16,2023 marks the 101st anniversary of Jiao Yulu’s birth.Jiao Yulu(1922–1964),former Party secretary of Lankao County in Kaifeng,central China’s Henan Province,began his work in the once-poor county in 1962,where he led the locals to overcome waterlogging,sandstorms and soil degradation that had long plagued Lankao,until he died of liver cancer at the age of 42 in 1964.
