<正> This paper presents the findings of some of the research studies carried out in Singapore on land reclamation problems and related issues. Experimental studies on soil improvement using vertical drains are first presented. The results provide a good insight on the problem understudy and help to improve the design of vertical drains in land reclamation projects. The second half of this paper reports the experimental and field studies on the use of waste soils for land reclamation. The findings reveal that waste soils can be used as reclamation fill materials but appropriate actions and evaluations must be made in order to ensure the fill functions satisfactorily and the magnitude and rate of fill settlement can be determined.
