Characteristics of Central Heating Cinder and Its Influence on soil properties

[Objective]The research was designed to explore the effect of long-term stacking of solid waste produced in the coal-burning process of central heating enterprises on physical and chemical properties of soil.[Method]This study took the heating enterprises in Shenyang City as the research *** morphological structure and element composition of coal cinder were determined by continuously collecting coal and cinder samples in different *** the same time,the original soil and cinder soil of the stacking site were collected to determine the changes of soil morphological structure,element composition and physical and chemical properties,so as to provide reference for the resource utilization of local cinder waste and the potential pollution risk of the stacking site.[Result]The contents of C,H,O,N,and S non-metallic elements in coal cinder decreased by 69.5%,71.2%,76.0%,74.5%,and 34.6%,respectively when compared with raw coal;while the content of Si increased significantly by 95.7%.The contents of Al,K,and Fe in cinder decreased by 4.3%,60.2%,and 33.3%,respectively,while the contents of Mg and Na increased by 36.1%and 130.9%,*** with the original soil,the contents of C,H,and O in shallow cinder soil and deep cinder soil increased by 126.5%,67.9%,80.93%,and 21.3%,25.0%and 42.3%,*** residual carbon existed in the form of activated *** contents of Mg,Al,K,Na,Ca,and Fe in shallow cinder soil and deep cinder soil increased by 61.6%,5.4%,46.1%,35.8%,32.5%,6.3%and 22.3%,12.3%,12.2%,15.6%,5.8%and 2.8%,respectively compared with the original *** content of heavy metal elements in coal cinder did not reach the detection *** the scanning electron microscope,the raw coal is mainly block structure,while the cinder is honeycombed and porous and dust.[Conclusion]Cinder stacking can significantly improve the content of organic matter and available K in shallow cinder soil,and improve the porosity and permeability of ***

Re-Examining Field-Surveyed Variations in Elevation and soil properties with a 1-m Resolution LiDAR-Generated DEM

This article presents a 2017 LiDAR-DEM guided 1-m resolution examination of field-surveyed elevation and soil property variations (5 × 5 m spacings) conducted in 1977 across a hummocky New Brunswick field used for potato production. This examination revealed that the field incurred minor elevation differences likely due to upslope erosion as revealed through increasing Sand % and CF % with increasing elevation, and increasing Silt % along low-lying areas. soil moisture, field capacity, permanent wilting and nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) also increased at downslope locations. Directly as well as indirectly, soil pH, ammonium nitrogen (NH4-N), Caesium137 (Cs137) and Mehlich-3 extracted Ca, Mg, K, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn were likewise affected by topographic location. Factor analyzing these variables led to: 1) a soil Loss Factor that captured 24% of the textural variations;2) a soil-Cropping Factor accounting for 16% of the N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn variations;3) a soil Organic Matter (SOM) Factor relating 9% of the in-field variations for SOM, Fe, Zn, Cu to via organo-metal complexation and low NO3-N retention. Many of the topographic variations increased or decreased with the metric DEM-projected depth-to-water index (DTW) index. This index was set to 0 along DEM-derived flow channels with minimum upslope flow-accumulation areas of 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1 or 4 ha. Among these, the DTW > 4 ha threshold was useful for reproducing the textural variations, while the DTW > 0.25 ha threshold assisted in capturing trends pertaining to moisture retention and elemental concentrations.

Effects of site preparation methods on soil physical properties and outplanting success of coniferous seedlings in boreal forests

This study assessed the effect of patch scarification and mounding on the physical properties of the root layer and the success of tree planting in various types of *** study was conducted on 12 forest sites in taiga forests of the European part of Russia.A total of 54 plots were set up to assess seedling survival;root collar diameter,height,and heigh increment were measured for 240 seedlings to assess *** the rooting layer,240 soil samples were taken to determine physical *** study showed that soil treatment methods had no effect on bulk density and total porosity in Cladina ***,reduced soil moisture was noted,particularly in mounds,resulting in increased *** Myrtillus sites,there were increased bulk density,reduced soil moisture,and total porosity in the *** treatment in Polytrichum sites resulted in reduced soil moisture and increased aeration *** the Myrtillus and Polytrichum sites,patch scarification had no effects on physical *** Polytrichum sites,survival rates,heights,and heigh increments of bareroot Norway spruce seedlings in mounds were higher than in patches;however,the same did not apply to *** Cladina and Myrtillus sites,there was no difference in growth for bareroot and containerised seedlings with different soil *** conditions and soil types should be considered when applying different soil treatment methods to ensure high survival rates and successful seedling growth.

Conservation tillage is widely utilized in the dryland regions of northern *** treatments can generate changes in the physical and chemical properties of the soil,affecting the soil bacterial ***,knowledge on the effect of conservation tillage on soil bacterial communities and the correlation between physicochemical soil properties and the bacterial community composition is very ***,we investigated the influence of five-years conservation tillage treatments on soil physical and chemical properties and soil bacterial communities in dryland region of northern *** studied soil bacterial community of Plow Tillage(PT),Zero tillage(ZT),and Chisel plow tillage(CPT)by using high throughput sequencing technology and quantitative *** results demonstrate that among the three tillage treatments,ZT was most similar to CPT,and most distinct from PT,using taxonomic and phylogenetic *** to PT,CPT and ZT had notable increases in the abundance of Firmicutes,and decreased abundance of most other phyla(including Actinobacteria,Acidobacteria,and Alphaproteobacteria).Conservation tillage more strongly influenced the composition of the soil microbiota and taxonomic distribution than phylogenetic *** bacterial diversity and community structure were affected by changes to soil texture(clay/silt/sand fraction)caused by tillage *** had an intermediate H’value and Simpson’s index due to the less disruptive agriculture practices that lead to a more abundant soil bacterial ***,our study showed that CPT and ZT can modify and improve the soil bacterial community to produce more stable and sustainable soil ecosystems in the dryland regions of northern China.

Effects of afforestation of agricultural land with grey alder(Alnus incana(L.) Moench)on soil chemical properties, comparing two contrasting soil groups

Background: Natural afforestation of former agricultural lands with alder species is common in Europe. Symbiotic nitrogen fixation by actinomycetes associated with alder species has been widely used for improvement of soil properties of abandoned agricultural lands, but relatively little is known of the interactions of these processes with soil type and chemical composition. We conducted a space-for time study with soil sampling under and outside grey alder tree canopies on two different soil groups to explore effects of colonisation of former agricultural lands by alder on soil ***: The results were analysed using analysis of variance. During the first 25 years after afforestation of former agricultural lands there was a significant increase in content of Ctot, Ntot, K+, Fe3+, Mn2+and available P in the topsoil(0–10 cm and 11–20 cm) of Dystric Arenosols soils, which are deficient in organic matter. Such trends were not evident in organic matter rich Endostagnic Umbrisols soils, in which exchangeable K+concentration decreased and exchangeable Fe3+and Al3+concentration ***: The results show that the effects of grey alder on soil chemical properties depend on initial soil properties. The invasion of agricultural land by grey alder leads to spatial variability of soil chemical properties creating a mosaic pattern.

Background:soil erosion is among the foremost causes of declining soil resources in Ethiopia,which in turn affect agricultural *** limit this problem,for the last two decades in Gumara watershed,soil and water conservation measures have been practiced through free labor community ***,their effect on soil fertility has not been *** study investigated the impact of implemented soil and water conservation measures on fertility improvement in the Gumara *** composite and core soil samples were taken from upstream,midstream,and downstream adjacent conserved and non-conserved cultivated and grazing *** soil fertility indicators were analyzed using standard laboratory ***:soil and water conservation practices have resulted in a statistically significantly higher mean values of total nitrogen,exchangeable Na+and Mg2+at psoil organic carbon and organic matter at psoil reaction,cation exchange capacity,and exchangeable K+showed nonsignificant,but higher mean values in conserved ***,the effects of conservation practices on soil properties were found more effective in cultivated land uses as compared to that of grazing land *** is because conservation treatments had significant effects on organic carbon,total nitrogen,exchangeable Na+and Mg2+in cultivated land uses but only on exchangeable Na+in grazing land *** interaction effect of treatments and land uses did not reach a statistically significant result for any of the soil properties considered in this ***:Conservation measures have important implications for improving soil fertility in the Gumara ***,proper guidance and follow-up,use of agro-forestry and grass strips,and maintenance are required for the watershed’s sustainability and good soil conditions.

Reclamation of lands abandoned after mining in mountain areas is critical to erosion control,safety from landslides,and ecological protection of mountain ***,little is known about alpine coal mine reclamation using the soil seed bank as a potential source for *** collected samples of persistent soil seed bank for germination experiments from nine reclaimed sites with different soil cover thicknesses and from six control sites in the Qilian Mountains of *** properties of each site were determined(including soil water content,soil available potassium,soil available phosphorus,soil total nitrogen,pH,soil organic matter,soil total phosphorus,and soil total potassium,and soil alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen),and the relationships of the characteristics of the soil seed bank with soil cover thickness and soil properties were *** results showed that the density,number of species,and diversity of the topsoil seed bank were significantly correlated with soil cover thickness,and all increased with the increment of soil cover *** cover thickness controlled the soil seed bank by influencing soil *** the increase in soil cover thickness,soil properties(e.g.,soil organic matter,soil total nitrogen,etc.)content increased while soil pH *** soil seed bank had the potential to restored the pre-mining habitat at reclaimed sites with approximately 20-cm soil cover *** properties of reclaimed sites were lower than that of natural *** relationship between the soil seed bank and soil cover thickness determined in this study provides a foundation for improving reclamation measures used in coal mines,as well as for the management and monitoring of reclaimed areas.

soil erosion and soil properties in reclaimed forestland of loess hilly region

Based on data observed from 1989 to 1998 in the Ziwuling survey station, changes of soil erosion and soil physico-mechanical properties were studied after forestland reclamation. When the man-induced factors changed the eco-environment by reclaiming forestlands, the intensity of man-made soil erosion in reclaimed lands was 1,000 times more than that of natural erosion in forestlands. From the analysis of soil physical and mechanical properties, the clay content and physical clay content decreased 2.74% and 3.01% respectively, and the >0.25 mm water stable aggregate content decreased 58.7%, the soil unit weight increased and the soil shear strength decreased, all of which were easier to cause soil erosion. The results of the correlation analysis showed that the >0.25 mm water stable aggregate content was the greatest influencing factor on soil erosion, the partial correlated coefficient was 0.9728, and then were soil coarse grain and soil shear strength, the partial correlated coefficients being 0.8879 and 0.6020 respectively. The relationships between the >0.25 mm water stable aggregate content, the soil sheer strength and the soil erosion intensity were analyzed, which showed that the first and seventh years were the turning years of the soil erosion intensity after the forestland reclamation. The degenerative eroded soil and eco-environment formed the peculiar erosion environment, which aggravated the soil erosion rapidly.
